how so? let him play thru it? he's been awful this year so far and a trip to the marlies for a week would do him some good, he is 19 years old and only one season into his career, not gonna kill him and just might save his career, let him see how the farm lives and maybe he will get back to the level of committment he had last season..... thats what the minor's are for, to work on his game and get his head back into the game itself....

PS. I feel bad for Luck Schenn who only played 9 minutes last night. Wilson and Burke are well on their way to destroying the only decent prospect in the whole organization. :(

I listened to Bill Waters' radio show the other day & his guest was former Leafs favorite Gary Roberts, also a well-known fitness guru. He believes that physical fitness is at the root of several of the Leafs ailments & his theories made a lot of sense. Here's the article talking about Roberts' impressions on what's ailing the Leafs, especially Luke Schenn:

Roberts rips Leafs' fitness

RALEIGH N.C. -- Gary Roberts was highly respected as the Maple Leafs fitness fanatic in his playing days, but now he wonders if poor conditioning is a reason his old team is near last place.

Speaking on former Leaf executive Bill Watters' radio show on AM 640 yesterday, Roberts specifically cited struggling defenceman Luke Schenn as a player who didn't train properly in the summer.

"Why is Luke struggling so much?" said Roberts, who has been doing some personal training since he retired last year for among others, top pick Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning. "He looks like he has been riding the bike all summer. If you ride that bike all the time, you're going to get slow and you're going to get hurt. It's the worst thing Luke could've done, if that's indeed what he did. I don't know for sure, I don't talk to the guys and it's none of my business."

Roberts declared his bias for former Leafs strength coach Matt Nichol, who was replaced with Anthony Belza during the summer and kept prefacing his comments as those of an observer and not a Leafs insider. But it's his impression the Leafs changed from an anaerobic approach under Nichol to aerobic.

"Hockey is not an aerobic sport," Roberts said, "It's anaerobic, about being strong, powerful and fast and you don't get that by riding the stationary bike. (Coach) Ron Wilson said before that the one thing he'd noticed was the team looked in better shape because they rode the bike all summer. That's the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard.

"We didn't want (Stamkos) slow at all," added Roberts, who introduced the rookie to Lorne Goldenberg, now strength coach of the Canadiens. "We made that guy do sled pulls, heavy lifting and a bunch of jumping. We made sure his frame was able to handle it first, but in the end, he did speed and power work all summer.

"If you don't do the right training in the summer, you take steps backwards."

Watters joked with Roberts about a number of callers who wanted him to come out of retirement, along with Mats Sundin and Brendan Shanahan to rescue the Leafs.

"That would be a pretty good line," Roberts agreed. "Unfortunately, that time has passed. I feel sorry for the guys. They look like they're working hard. I think they're making some progress, but not fast enough to save this season."

As far as bad luck is concerned, the fact of the matter is the Leafs lost a 3-0, 4-2, and 5-4 lead to a team that's decimated by injuries and who's goalie was having an awful night. Carolina out shot Toronto 34 to 15 after the first period which means most player on the NHL's dodgeball powerhouse decided they had earned their salaries in the first twenty minutes. Shitty effort and lack of talent in the OT/shootout once again doomed the Leafs not bad luck.

Exactly - the Leafs decided to mail it in after the first period. Carolina didn't give up or roll over, but instead worked hard to battle back - they deserved the two points. Luck had s.f.a to do with it.

While the Leafs keep their losing ways on track, the habs pull off a surprising win against the Capitals tonight! 3-2 in regulation! Another great showing from Price who seems to have found his game and his confidence and kept them in it after a stupid penalty late in the game by Lapierre almost led to Washington equalizing the score after scoring a late goal to get within one of the habs. But some great saves from Price and a well placed goal post allowed the good guys to get a regulation win for a change against a superior opponent.

I see the title was changed, is it only for discussion about the Leafs & Habs now?

I had made the change this morning, prior to the later deletion. I figured if 99% of the posts were about the Habs and/or Leafs, then it should be named that way.

But after it was re-inserted, i figured if it was going to be a more serious thread than it has been, it was probably wise to remove the Habs/Leafs reference in its title, which probably would have added to the flaming.

Leafs = 4W - 17L

I guess the parade is back on in Toronto as the Leafs win only their 4th game in 21 attempts against a tired looking Caps team. Speaking of parades, the last parade in Toronto was in 1993, when the Leafs made it all the way to game 7 of the conference finals …

Big Georges to be disciplined for dirty hit?

KRONWALL OUT AT LEAST A MONTH AS NHL TO REVIEW LARAQUE HIT

Montreal Canadiens' tough guy Georges Laraque may be in a bit of trouble with the league.

The NHL has decided to review Laraque's knee-on-knee collision with Red Wings' defenceman Niklas Kronwall that occurred half-way through the first period of Detroit's shootout victory over the Habs on Saturday. A hearing is scheduled for Monday morning with league disciplinarian Colin Campbell.

Kronwall had to be helped from the ice following the hit and was not able to put any weight on his left knee.

The Red Wings expect Kronwall to miss at least a month of time after an MRI on Sunday revealed a significant sprain of the medial collateral ligament in Kronwall's left knee.

"There is no ACL damage and that's good news," Red Wings' general manager Ken Holland told the Detroit News. "They are saying it's between a Grade 2 and a Grade 3 sprain; Grade 3 being the most severe. So he's out a month for sure and beyond that, it depends on how he heals."

Kronwall had his left knee surgically repaired in back in 2005.

Laraque, who stated that the collision was an accident, received a tripping minor on the play.

"There were four refs on the ice and they didn't call anything," Laraque told reporters following the game. "If they called a match penalty it would be different. There was no intent, there was no reason why I would try to go and hurt him. It was a pure accident, that's why they called it tripping, so I'm not worried at all."

Holland had a different interpretation of the play and is satisfied that the NHL will be reviewing the incident.

"The league called me (Saturday night)," Holland told the Detroit News. "Obviously, they are looking into it. They told me they saw the hit and they requested that I let them know the extent of Nik's injury."

Saw the game last tonight and the play in question - it was inadvertent and anything but a "dirty hit". If anyone should be suspended, it's Colton Orr for abuse of an official.

You must have been watching a different game than everybody else. Even the Habs commentators on both networks indicated the hit was deliberate & the replay doesn't lie (unless you need glasses). Laracque stuck out his leg & struck Kronwall. If that's not dirty, i don't know what dirty is.....

When did Colton Orr every abuse an official?

I can't find any. I saw the replay several times last night & today while watching the sports news. Trust me, it was a deliberate act....probably caused by his slowness, but it's still deliberate....and he WILL get suspended.

I honestly don't think the Mtl coaching staff will be that upset if he's sent home for a few days. This season, he doesn't seem to be a fit on that team.

Laraque lifted his left leg off the ice and seemed to stick it out to cause the trip. Was it deliberate or was he off balance? I will have to see it again to be 100% but from what I remember from the game it looked deliberate to me. Colton Orr's abuse of an official is not in doubt and it is available to see right here on youtube. It's around the 1 minute mark...

I still don't understand how he wasn't suspended and fined.
