just goes to show dont stop 2 heavyweights in the heat of battle until their good and ready to call it "over"

That's exactly what the pundits were saying about the incident. It was incidental & the linesman was as to blame as anyone else. I don't even think Orr even saw him. I guess the league (and the refs also) thought the same thing since no tape was sent to the league, no complaint was received from the referees, and the league didn't even hold a hearing about it. It almost seems like someone would have blown some air at him & he would have fallen on his butt. It's actually quite funny!

His problem is ATTITUDE. I'm surprised he was called up, considering his addition will only bring inner turmoil. As for the trade today, kudos to Gainey for trading a human zamboni for a young player with potential. A french guy, on top of that!

Jaro Spacek didn't skate in today's practice. If i'm a Habs fan, i'm crossing my fingers since the team can't afford to lose him also. He's played pretty good so far.

As for the Leafs, they're playing against John Taveres & the surging Isles. The hottest scorer on the team is some kid named Moulson, who was picked 200th something in his draft year. He leads the team in goal scoring.

He deserved more, but either way having big slow George not on the ice doesnt hurt Mtl at all, they should of made the punishment to PLAY him 20 plus minutes a game

I totally agree. It feels like the league has rewarded the Habs instead of punishing them. Bob Gainey is doing backflips right now!!

By the way, tough loss by the Leafs.....they have 61 shots on net & still lose (in OT). Unbelievable!!!

This had to be the best goaltending performance (by Dwayne Roloson) that i've seen since Ron Tugnutt stopped over 70 shots against the Bruins back in the late 80's/early 90's.

Laraque a hindrance? How Georges Laraque still finds NHL employment befuddles us

Bad Georges

by Scott Burnside

(ESPN) We know Georges Laraque is a good guy who does lots of charity work, but we continue to be baffled about how he still has a job in the NHL. We watched as the Canadiens winger got caught out of position Saturday night. Then we saw him throwing a knee into Niklas Kronwall, sending one of the Detroit Red Wings' most important players to the sideline for as many as eight weeks. That prompts us to ask: To what end is Laraque's ice time at all valuable -- ever? Needless to say, Detroit coach Mike Babcock was not impressed by the knee-on-knee hit and called it dirty. He was being charitable. The NHL's Star Chamber style of discipline is on display once again; as of Monday, the league remains silent about supplementary discipline for Laraque. For the record, Laraque has one assist in 10 games and is averaging 7 minutes, 4 seconds a night in ice time. He's making $1.5 million in the first year of a two-year, $3 million deal. Money well spent, no?

Both Scott Gomez & Jaro Spacek have been ruled out for tonight's game against Columbus due to lower body injuries. Gomez has a groin pull & Spacek's specific problem wasn't specified. The team has called up forward J.T. Wyman. Who you say? J.T. Wyman. If this keeps up, they'll have no choice but to change their name to the Bulldogs!

In other news, Guillaume Latendresse appears happy to be out of Montreal, even though he admits he would have accepted a hometown discount to remain with the team. He claims he didn't have much ice time in Mtl to prove his worth & admits spending time in the minors wouldn't have hurt, adding that being a french-canadian playing in Montreal at such a young age adds an incredible amount of pressure to a kid, constantly hearing chants of "Guy! Guy! Guy!" when he first came up. He states he's proud of his goals total from his first 3 seaons, even though time spent on the powerplay was rare.

Sens' Pascal Leclaire out for a month

OTTAWA–Ottawa Senators starting goaltender Pascal Leclaire will be sidelined about a month with a broken cheekbone.

He suffered the injury while sitting on the bench during Monday's game against Washington.

A dump-in attempt by Senators centre Mike Fisher struck a stick and sailed into the Ottawa bench, rebounding off the glass and off the right side of Leclaire's face.

Leclaire was serving as backup to Brian Elliott because he'd suffered a slight injury to his lower body in a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Leclaire says he's disappointed about his bad luck but that it's something he'll laugh about in 20 years.

Leafs' Mitchell & Toskala injured

In other news, the Leafs' John Mitchell will be out for 4-6 weeks with a knee injury, while goalie Vesa Toskala re-injured his groin. His absence is still undetermined. Top Marlies forward Christian Hanson has been recalled to take up Mitchell's spot. Joey McDonald will serve as Jonas Gustafsson's backup while Toskala is out.

Toronto hasn't really been hit by the injury bug compared to other teams (Komi's injury should actually be a positive) yet the Leafs are still 4W and 16L

Les Bulldogs de Montreal sont la!!!! :D and a nice return by SK74

a quick tally of injured players salaries = $26.1M (almost 50% of the team's payroll )

#1 It's not surprising Serge K played a good game. His problem has never been his skills, but what's between his two ears.

#2 Considering Scott Gomez is paid $8 million (incredible!) & Brian Gionta gets $4 million (total of $12 million), the total payroll amounts for injured players are inflated.

After watching last night's game, it's fairly easy to see why the Habs gave up on Mathieu Garon. He was absolutely terrible!!

Habs lose Andrei Kostitsyn

Habs have recalled David Desharnais to replace forward Andrei Kostitsyn, who will be out of the lineup in their game against the Penguins due to an foot/anke. The elder Kostitsyn was hit by a Fedor Tyutin shot near the end of the 3rd period in last night's game. Kostitsyn spent the day on crutches, so it's possible his absence will be for a longer period than some feared.

Are there any players left in Hamilton?

  • Blake: $4.5 million. 2 goals in 22 games and a -4 (Insane!!!!!)
  • Stempniak: $3.5 million. Averaging less half a point per game (Crazy!!!)
  • Mikhail Grabovski: $2.75 million. What has this Habs cast off ever done? Nothing! (Brutal!!)
  • Primeau + Mayers + Orr = $3.8 million. Total of 2 goals and a combined -8 (more marginal multi-millionaires)
  • Komisarek: $4.0 million for the 243rd worst d-man in the league (out of 250). (Say what??)
  • Beauchemin: $4.2 million for the 247th worst d-man in the league (out of 250). (another over paid multi-millionaire!)
  • Finger: $3.5 million. One goal and a -8. (Again, what's he ever done? I didn't even know who he was until he signed with the Maple Craps.)
  • Exelby: $1.725 million. 0 points and a -7 (almost $2M for a seventh defenseman - Insane!!!!!)
  • Toskala: $4.0 million. ‘nuff said – one of the worst goalies in the league (another marginal multi-millionaire!)
