It's got to be really hard to be a Leafs fan so let them live with their delusions that if only the world was upside down, they would have a chance of finishing first!

Don't be so negative: didn't the Leafs win the Cup as recently as 1967? Hey that's only 42 (soon to be 43, mind you) years ago.

And yet another "fact" perpetuated by delusional Leafs fans bites the dust... :D

HABS ARE CLOSEST THING TO 'CANADA'S TEAM,' POLL SAYS

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=300594

Yeah but Bobby maybe Ipsos-Reid were biased...uh or maybe the Leafs were unlucky in this poll...uh or maybe the poll was taken before Phil Kessel joined the team...uh or maybe people didn't realize the great Ron Wilson was coaching the Leafs...uh or maybe it's another conspiracy...uh or maybe Carey Price stood on his head and somehow jiggled the figures....Geez I don't know Bobby but there must be SOME reason that the 29th best team in the NHL, a team that won the Cup a mere 42 years ago, isn't "Canada's team".

Great article JB!

I really love this line from the story, especially the subtle reminder of 1967:

Meanwhile, three-quarters of Canadians predict the Habs will hoist the cup for a record 25th time before the Leafs -- who haven't won since 1967 -- get another one.

And this little section:

Although it won't happen as long as the teams remain in the same NHL conference -- and as long as the Leafs keep failing to even make the playoffs -- 44 per cent of Canadians say they'd cheer for the Habs compared to 38 per cent who would cheer for the Leafs if the two were matched up for the Stanley Cup.

Ya gotta love it!

:D

ROFL!!!! well well well, whats that saying? the Cat calling the Kettle and i think something about black...... forget the white. .. :D....... your right, trying to get scabs fans and Leafs fans to agree is useless.... but more so the blinded scabby fans.... or should i say "our given right to skip the season and pay homage to us for being great" errrrrr, one problem with that, there are more than 6 teams these days and your just well,,,,, not very good anymore..... :p ....

btw, EVERY Team has a system, duh, and like i said, Martins great system is not much better than Wilsons at the moment..... it takes time for so many new faces to come together , if it's possible, and some players just are not compatible but time will tell....... both teams are not as bad as their records.... but again,. the difference is, we are building for the next several yrs while your only retooling and hate to tell ya but your in for a world of hurt with the salary cap starting as early as next season..... gonna be interesting to see what clueless Bob Gainey will "think" can be done to get you back to glory...... aint gonna happen my friend......

You keep repeating the same stuff like a mantra because a) you have absolutely no notion of what collective play or a SYSTEM is about and/or b) you're so biased when it comes to the Habs that you can't possibly offer an objective evaluation. Everything with you is either black or white...

So nevermind, this is useless...

P.S. Even Bruce Boudreau (btw the Caps were held to 22 shots) praised Martin's system after the last game. And it was actually an entertaining game. Not to mention that shots on goal are an overrated stat. What you need to look at are scoring chances.

and wasnt Martin supposed to be the master of boring defensive games? meaning limiting the other teams to a low shot on goal total? grrrrrrrrrreat system he has this season..... 35-40 plus shots against Hab goalies is the Norm now.... Yea, great system for the defensive minded Martin...
.
The only 'system' the Habs have is playing boring hockey night after night where the other team regularly has 40+ shots on net where poor Carey Price is often left fending for himself & having to save the fort. Nashville nearly had 3 times more shots (they had over 50 shots!) than they did three weeks ago & it looked like a junior team playing against a pee wee team.

Yep, that's the Martin system alright! :D

How does the ol' saying go again? Oh yeah......

"People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Come on guys, stop it with the name-calling. It has no business in this thread. If some of you want to attempt to demean others with name-calling, go post elsewhere where in some cases it seems to be welcome.

What did P.E.T. say back in 1970? Oh yeah....

"Just watch me"

How about some posters start reporting on serious hockey-related matters for once & for all instead of constantly calling one another names & trying to ridicule one another's teams? I'm not saying that there's no place for it, but it gets very tiring when it's being done repeatedly & nothing constructive ever comes out from some of the regular posters in this thread.

Leafs vs. Montreal tonight at 7pm

Gustavsson to start against Habs

The Leafs will return Jonas Gustavsson to the net tonight when they face Montreal at the Bell Centre.

The game will mark the second time this season the rookie goalie will make back-to-back starts, but with Vesa Toskala remaining on the injury shelf for at least the next two days, Gustavsson will be the go-to guy for now.

"Of course you want to play ... and if they (Leafs) want me to play, of course I'd be thrilled with that, but I don't think you can say (I'm) the starting goalie," Gustavsson said as the Leafs finished off an optional practice this morning at the Bell Centre.

"It's always game to game, and it's a (competition) all season long. That will push me to be better and it's good for me and for Vesa, and for my development."

On Monday, as the Leafs lost 3-0 to Buffalo with Gustavsson in the net, Leafs coach Ron Wilson questioned the media when a query was posed regarding Gustavsson's confidence.

Wilson said it was unfair to place too much pressure on the rookie goalie, who has a 3.66 goals against average and .872 save percentage over his past six starts.

At the same time, the Leafs are forced into running Gustavsson over a stretch of games until Toskala returns from his minor groin muscle pull.

Toskala went through a rigorous workout with goalie coach Francois Allaire and several other assistant coaches at the Bell Centre this morning.

It was the stiffest test he's had since he suffered his injury a week ago Monday in a game against the Islanders.

"It's much better, much better," Toskala said.

"I guess the only thing left is I have to get things out of my head, not being afraid to jump from side to side (of the net)," Toskala said.

"That will come in practice when you go harder and work more."

Wilson also said Monday that he would like to have Toskala available right now to help relieve the pressure on Gustavsson.

Toskala said today that he could be ready for Thursday's game in Columbus.

"I would like to think so, but we'll see," Toskala said.

The Leafs, in the meantime, will also return defenseman Jeff Finger to the lineup tonight to fill in for the injured Carl Gunnarsson.

Gunnarsson, who sustained a suspected shoulder injury Monday, did not travel with the team to Montreal.

Wilson did not speak to the media this morning, but the team said there were no updates available on Gunnarsson as of this morning. The club also had no plans to recall a player from the Marlies.

Montreal, meanwhile, will counter with Carey Price, who will be making his ninth consecutive start and has been mostly spectacular in that stretch.

Montreal will also have forwards Scott Gomez (foot) and Matt D'Agostini (concussion-knee) back in the lineup tonight.

Here's the way the Habs lines and defence-pairings looked today in their morning skate:

Forwards

Sergei Kostitsyn-Tomas Plekanec-Mike Camalerri

Max Paciorety-Scott Gomez-Travis Moen

Tom Pyatt-Max Lapierre-Ryan White

Kyle Chipchura-Glen Metropolit-Matt D'Agostini

D-Pairings

Roman Hamrlik-Jaroslav Spacek

Paul Mara-Josh Georges

Marc-Andre Bergeron-Ryan O'Byrne

Goalie

Carey Price

Backup

Jaro Halak

(Two thumbs down to the schedule-maker for not scheduling these two rivals on Saturday night. What's this? Tuesday? WTF? I'd still wish i'd be able to attend the game tonight, though...)

Rather rare but the Habs don't play on saturday. They play today, Thursday and Friday. That's because Friday coincides with the end of the centenial season. The Bruins will be in town and there will be a (long...) ceremony before the game.

On another note, Ovechkin was at it again last night. That's two game misconducts in the last 10 days. I hope the NHL grows some balls and suspend him.

2 games. Big deal. He probably would have missed them anyways due to his knee being hurt from the check. Should have gotten the same as Laraque, 5 games.
