THE JACQUES MARTIN SYSTEM=SCORE THE LEAST GOALS AS POSSIBLE

:D :D :D :D

Oh yeah, the game. Final score: 3=0 LEAFS!!!!!!!!!! The Leafs shutout the Habs with their 3rd string goalie!!!!

Go Leafs Go!!!

instead of constantly calling one another names & trying to ridicule one another's teams? I'm not saying that there's no place for it, but it gets very tiring when it's being done repeatedly & nothing constructive ever comes out from some of the regular posters in this thread.

I would normally tell you to practice what you preach before lecturing anyone here but I now realize you were just frustrated by your team's Monday performance. ;)

Now Doc go and enjoy one of the very rare Leaf wins while I console myself after the Habs most embarrassing loss of the year by watching the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in HD. :D

What's amazing is that in the final 10 minutes of the game, the Bell Center was half-empty (i could only see blue & white sweaters!) & instead of "Ole, ole, ole, ole", what you heard were "Boo! Boo! Boo!!"

(and the booing wasn't directed towards the Leafs!)

for a rare change, since the Leafs are certainly used to hearing the boos at the ACC where you're 29th place team sports a 2W and 10L home record.

Something Scabs fans should start getting used to. Leafs are breathing behind the Scabs' necks, just a few points back......:D

Look on the bright side, though. Gainey will probably finish the job by getting rid of Plekanec & Price, and then Scabs fans will happily be stuck with the Smurfs line for the next 4-5 years. Bravo, Monsieur Gainey! :D

(Is Scott Gomez really making $8 million a season? Come on!!! Really??? $8 million???? Why???? Even Marc Savard, who just signed a new multi-year deal, will only be getting $4 million a season!)

as i was driving down the road tonight, listening to the game from a station i picked up out of Hamilton, i got a huge smile on my face when they said Joey Mac was taking over... dont get me wrong, i Love the Monster and want him to be the #1 goalie, but i just had this feeling the Scabs would mount a comeback and maybe Jonas would lose some confidence, he is still growing into a NHL Goalie , with his skills and also his head... and Joey Mac is a terrific goalie and i had the utmost confidence in him taking over tonight, but i fully expect the Monster to be back in goal for the next game and welcome that, as long as his heart is ok of course....

Btw, when was the last time Toronto beat the Habs when it counted? Answer: 1967!

You do realize why he was pulled, right? Nice to see your confidence in your # 1 goalie. Pffftt!!

He's coming off off-season heart surgery because he has bouts of tachycardia, this isn't something minor. He needs to go in an have another procedure called a cardiac ablatian to correct this problem. I doubt the team would take a chance putting him in again until he's had his ailment repaired.

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on tv :p

of course i know why, didnt you understand the part where i said i was LISTENING to the game? what, dont you think the announcers told the reason, even if it wasnt right away? and K, i listened as you read off to me one trip this past summer as to who was on at Asservissante that night from your laptop so i know you do know how to read,:D so scroll through my post and you will see why i was very confident in Joey Mac coming in, as much for his skill and as much as Jonas gained confidence along with the WIN!, it was a win/win situation ..... Jonas will be back and better than ever.... the Monster will be in net Saturday to take care of your little team , i hope :)

Gustafsson spent the night in a Mtl hospital as a precautionary measure. Wilson said after the game that by the time he left the Bell Center, his heart rate was back down to normal & he was only taken to the hospital to be on the safe side. You could tell as the first period was ending that something wasn't right, with him skating back to the bench slowly with his head down. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nothing but an anxiety attack, but who knows.

His symptoms remind me of something i had a year ago, where both my arms would suddenly go numb & i'd feel my heart rate racing, almost passing out. It would last about 30 seconds. This happened 4 times & i noticed the last time that my heart rate was irregular, so maybe that could explain the symptoms. To make a long story short, i never found out what caused the symptoms. I do hope for Gustafsson's sake that it's not a recurrence of the heart problem he experienced this past summer. If so, the procedure to rectify the problem is a simple one. However, i'd be surprised it's the same problem since he already underwent that procedure last September.

Maybe it's a good thing, after all, that he was only tendered a one-year contract. If he can't continue his hockey career due to medical reasons, i wouldn't be surprised to see J-S Giguere heading to Toronto. Unless Toronto has their sights on Carey Price, who'll be RFA in this coming off-season. But then again, the Leafs would have to figure out a way to get back some high draft picks in some trade (maybe with Chicago) in order to do so, and hope Mtl doesn't match the likely $4 million+ (per season) for Price, which is what teams will be offering to him this coming off-season. Right now, Mtl wouldn't have the cap room to match, since a bulk of their cap money goes to play for the Cammalleri, Gionta & Gomez ($8 million!!!!) multi-year contracts. They're already pretty much capped out & they might want to re-sign Plekanec's, who'll be expecting a considerable raise if he's to stay in Mtl.

By the way, for the many who are wondering what Kyle Chipchura is still doing with the big club, well they should expect him to stay with the team (even though he might not play much) for the entire season since he'd need to clear waivers in order to be sent down. It'd be a gamble the team would be taking if they'd decide to send him to the minors. I doubt they'd take that gamble since it would be admitting that they've given up on a first-round pick of 4-5 years ago. The Habs lost Jay Leach yesterday, who was claimed on waivers by the SJ Sharks.

Apparently they've given up! Chipchura, gone to the Ducks for a 4th round pick according to Shaun Starr of Team990! Ouch.

Are you serious?? For a 4th rounder (who'll never make it to the NHL) only?? Unbelievable!!! I have to look this up.....

(if this is true, my guess is that they did decide to send him down, and Anaheim possibly put in a claim on him. To save face, Gainey requested they send him something or else he'd pull him back. I guess a 4th-rounder is better than a roll of puck & a jock strap.)

Kyle Chipchura traded to Anaheim for a lousy 4th rounder

CKAC has also reported the same trade, which supposedly occurred right after the game last night. Chipchura was on the ice (barely) for two of the Leafs goals & was then benched for the entire game. He played 2 minutes and wound up being -2 for the evening. Embarrassing!

CKAC also stated that the deal is a sure thing, but will only be officially announced later this morning.

All i can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Chipchura was selected in the first-round in 2004, being the 18th overall draft pick of that year's entry draft. What a wasted draft pick!! He was selected ahead of Travis Zajac, Wojtek Wolski, Andrej Mezaros, Rob Schremp, and MIKE GREEN of the Washington Capitals.

I remember last year during training camp, some people were saying that he'd be the next Habs captain in a few years. Again, unbelievable!!

Hey genius, Price will be an RFA

My mistake. Typo. I've made the correction.

You don't need to point out how bad the Leafs draft picks & transactions have been over the years. I was against every single one you've noted. Heck, i even wrote a book on it!

You're not the only one. I was checking out the sports section at a bookstore and saw two books on the theme of "why the leafs suck". One was by Al Strachan, the other I can't remember.

There were also books on Montreal (many!), Boston, Detroit (of course!) and the Rangers - probably a few other teams also. Curiously, all these books were either objective historical accounts or books of praise (for example: The 100 Greatest Canadiens, The 100 Greatest Rangers). It was ONLY the Leafs who had negative books about them - and they had two!

Dave Keon

The last time the Leafs won the Cup in 1967, Dave Keon won the Conn Smythe Trophy despite scoring only 2 points in the finals. This was due to his defense on Jean Beliveau.

That was the Leafs trivia moment of the day!
