hasnt he been warned at least 3 times already? ..... get used to it Doc if the Mods continue to allow it, he will only post more as the Leafs pass the SCABS in the standings... just goes to show how sore loser some scabs fans can be,.... not real fans at all, but more along the lines of Joke fans, and Pathetic , and Sad.. you lost one game to the Leafs, suck it up, be a man, say your lil childish rant, and move on.. we all do it, but must you linger on for post after post every time you either beat us, or we beat you?

Tick, tick, tick.....

Hello,

I have moved a number of posts to the other hockey thread where they belong.

gohabsgo, I will allow one post in reply to Doc's trade comment but there is no reason to continue listing every trade ever made in this thread. I hope I do not have to start handing out suspensions in a sports thread to keep things on topic.

Like i wrote earlier, i don't dispute most of the trades/transactions that GHG posted. I for one have been an outspoken critic of the Leafs regime & its decisions over the past few years & especially during the 70's & 80's. The 90's were a breath of fresh air, for once. But i've been a Leafs fan since the late 70's & will continue being one for as long as i live. I also will tell it like it is & if i feel a transaction they've made stinks, i'll be the first one to speak out against it. But the Leafs have also done some very good transactions over the years. The Bill Derlago & Rick Vaive trade for Tiger Williams & Jerry Butler was a brilliant one. It's only a matter of time before Vaive's sweater is retired. The Gilmour trade was a steal & almost brought home the Cup. Other transactions like obtaining Gartner & Andreychuk were positive ones. I hate to say it, but trading my favorite player of all-time to Quebec for Mats Sundin might have been the best trade the Leafs ever made.

I like the Phil Kessel trade. Sure, they gave up two first rounders in the transaction, but half the time, first rounders don't mean much. Usually, only the first picks of a draft year are bonafide NHL-calibre talent. But i've pretty much hated every move they've made prior to that. Tukka Rask for Raycroft was a terrible trade. Let's not even talk about the Vesa Toskala for a first-round pick trade. They even overpaid him by offering him a brand new contract before he even dressed up for a regular season game (they did the same with Raycroft). I hated the Carlo Colaicovo & Alex Steen trade to St-Louis for Lee Stempniac. But this season, Stempniac has been one of the Leafs top forwards, so maybe there's still a chance this trade will even up. Giving away Boyd Devereaux was a major mistake. Not giving Shaun Thornton a chance to play for the team was another mistake. Bernie Parent, Lanny McDonald, Darryl Sittler.....let's not even go there! And so on.......

But all in all, all teams make their share of mistakes, including even the Habs. The teams that make the less mistakes in transactions & drafting players usually regularly wind up in the top 10 in the standings.

The Leafs are on the right path. Finally!! As for Mtl, the jury is still out. If they ever lose Gainey or fire him at the end of the season, like some people want, i think it will be a major mistake for the organizaton & they'll have to start all over again. But like i said, we don't know what will happen.

Finally, all the trash talking doesn't bother me as much as name-calling & insults. That's when the thread stops being fun. Maybe i'm alone to think this way, but that's how i feel. I also wouldn't mind if the trash-talkers would post some serious hockey-related material once in a while. Continuously posting insults & things just to infuriate others isn't productive & makes those who regularly do this look ridiculous & not credible. If you folks want this thread to be a productive one, it's up to you.

Leafs trade Tlusty for Quebecer Philippe Paradis

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs traded AHL forward Jiri Tlusty to the Carolina Hurricanes for prospect Philippe Paradis on Thursday.

The deal betwen the NHL's bottom two teams is an exhange of first-round draft picks - Tlusty was taken 13th overall in 2006 while Paradis was selected 27th last June.

Tlusty has appeared in 74 career NHL games for Toronto over the past three seasons. Even though he'll initially report to Carolina's AHL affiliate in Albany, he could find himself playing for the last-place Hurricanes soon.

"This trade gives us an opportunity to pick up a young, skilled forward who is further along in his development, albeit still in the development phase," Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said in a statement. "We feel that Jiri has a chance to be with the Hurricanes sooner than Philippe, who is a good, but still very young prospect."

Paradis is in his third season with Shawinigan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 18-year-old centre is listed at six-foot-two, 205 pounds - attributes that no doubt caught the eye of Leafs GM Brian Burke.

In 26 games this season, Paradis has 19 points (8-11) and 43 penalty minutes.

The 21-year-old Tlusty has spent most of the year with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, where he had eight goals and 15 points in 19 games.

His departure sheds light on the difficulty Toronto has had drafting and developing players over the last 15 years. Only two of the team's first-round picks currently remain in the system and they were made the last two years - Luke Schenn (2008) and Nazem Kadri (2009).

Brendan Shanahan joins NHL front office

NEW YORK - Brendan Shanahan didn't stay retired for long.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion was named the NHL's vice-president of hockey and business development Thursday, less than three weeks after ending his 22-year playing career.

Shanahan, who announced his retirement Nov. 17, will work with Colin Campbell, the league's senior executive vice-president of hockey operations, providing insights from a player's standpoint into trends that have emerged. The 40-year-old will also be responsible for special projects handed down by commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly.

"The league, at all levels, will benefit tremendously from Brendan's passion for the game and from the wisdom of his experience gained in 21 years of playing the game," Bettman said.

"Throughout his career, Brendan was the consummate team player, putting the success of his team and the good of the game above individual accomplishments. I am certain he will be able to bring that same approach to his new role."

Shanahan, an eight-time all-star, finished with 1,354 career points (656 goals, 798 assists), good for 23rd all-time.

"I am thrilled to remain involved in the game I love and am looking forward to learning 'the other side' of it," said Shanahan.

"The game is in a great place and is poised for further growth. The quality of the players and the competition has never been better. It took a collective effort to get to this point and I look forward to being part of a group that continues to grow the game - on and off the ice - in the coming years."

Jonas Gustavsson to undergo heart surgery

COLUMBUS -- The Monster is going under the knife Friday for the second time in his young career.

As reported in the Sun today, the Leafs confirmed this morning that Jonas Gustavsson will undergo an ablation procedure to repair his irregular heartbeat.

As well, the team announced that rookie Swedish defenceman Carl Gunnarsson will be out for six weeks with a hyper-extended elbow.

Joey MacDonald is expected to get the start for the Leafs tonight and judging by this morning's skate, it looks like Vesa Toskala will be his backup.

Gustavsson was rushed to a Montreal hospital following the first period of the Leafs 3-0 win over the Habs.

The big Swede had a similar surgery during training camp but it didn't completely fix the problem.

The Leafs face the Blue Jackets here tonight looking for a fourth win in their past five games. Their only loss occurred when they shot 61 times at Dwayne Roloson of the Islanders, only to lose in the last minute of overtime.

Not as quick as the Leafs & Sabres. Leafs got an early 2-0 lead against Columbus & now lead 5-1 late in the 2nd. Sabres got off to an early 3-0 lead against the Habs & now lead 4-1. The $8 Million Dollar Man just scored his 3rd goal of the season to break Miller's shutout.

Leafs are finally getting the breaks they have been missing all season. hard work pays off eventually in ANY profession, unless you play for the scabs, but then again, they would rather go to crescent and st catherines st instead of practice........ Gainey fired by new years? be great if they did it tomm night at the celebration :D

You're mean! Mean!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

By the way, with the Leafs' win & the Habs losing again, the Leafs are only 3 pts behind the Habs, with one game in hand. Leafs are playing as a team & playing great!!

Believe it or not, they were even praising Brian Burke on Mtl talkshow "L'Attaque a Cinq" tonight, stating that he's making moves that a real GM makes (as compared to Gainey) and they also began to look at the upside of the Phil Kessel deal.

i am not mean Doc, i am a realist and a True and i mean TRUE FAN of the awesome game of HOCKEY! and i call em as i see em, and just like you, we saw the scabs for what they "seem" to be all along and for what the Leafs FINALLY seem to be, again, ALL ALONG!........ but lets not jump the gun, it is a LONG LONG season, still 50 plus games to go for the habs to miss the playoffs ;) and :D, and :p, and :).........

Kessel is a Merging Superstar without a doubt and i would bet ANYTHING the Bruins will not end up with Taylor Hall unless they make a trade for the #1 pic....... GO LEAFS GO!!!!

PS. seriously tho, how great would it be for Gainey to get fired on the 100th centennial season ceremony tonight? i bet it would get a standing "O" from the spoiled Scab fans! bwahahahahahaha......

A lot of people are starting to ask for Gainey's head. Martin's also, but to be perfectly honest, i think he's done a fairly good job considering he's only got a few players with talent on the team (and most of them play on the same line). He's also had to deal with injuries, even though as Wendel Clark said on OTR the other night "i'm so tired of hearing all the whining about injuries.....injuries are and have always been a part of the game." It's true that it's no one's fault but their own that Mtl doesn't have much depth in order to replace those injured players, and that Mr. Gainey should have made a transaction to replace the fallen few skill players he has. But not having much cap room to work with doesn't make things easier.

But let's say the Molson brothers & Boivin decide that enough is enough & want to give Gainey his walking papers. Who would replace him? I truly can't see anyone out there who'd do a better job other than maybe Brian Burke, but he's already signed long-term with the Leafs. Dave Nonis? Nope. Burke's got him signed long-term as his right-hand mand. I'm afraid Gainey will finish the season, since there's no one out there to replace him.

The major problem i've seen with the Habs over the years is scouting. They haven't had a good scouting record since the days of Sam Pollock. As best as i can recall, the most successful top pick they've had in a long time was Carey Price. However, he was an early first-round pick by the team, which many believe is way too early to draft a goaltender. The jury is still out on that one. Personally, i believe it may have been the right move to draft him early since if it wasn't for him right now, the Habs might very well be last in the standings. I mean it. The Habs haven't been able to score goals & Carey Price has kept them in games most of the time they've won, includng the overtimes. But i guess it doesn't help that someone being paid $8 million per season just scored his 3rd goal of the entire season last night. It also doesn't help that Gainey traded away a top forward & two of its top prospects in order to obtain him. However, some say he wouldn't have been able to sign Brian Gionta if he hadn't done the deal. I say 'bullshit!" Do you think Brian Gionta wouldnt have signed with the Habs if they hadn't thrown a $25 million five year contract at him? Who in his right mind would have given Brian Gionta $5 million per season on a multi-year deal? No one! Same goes with Mike Cammallari. He's likely the team's best forward. But no one in the league other than Gainey would have thrown a $30 million 5 year contract at him. That's $6 million dollars a season for Mike Cammallari!!!!! For those who are unaware of this, he wanted to sign with Toronto. Toronto and Ottawa were his likely teams of destination on July 1st when Montreal suddenly showed up with a ridiculous offer. Both Toronto and Ottawa balked at increasing their offers, so Cammallari went for the money (can't blame him, i would have done the same thing) and took Mtl's offer. But is Mike Cammallari a $6 million per season player?? Ridiculous!!! Small stature players like him & the others they signed often will fade out by the middle of the season due to the heavy physical toll on their bodies in a gruelling 82-game NHL season.

Now the team's capped out, with few ressources left to re-sign Tomas Plekanec & what will they do when Andrei Markov becomes a UFA after the 2010-11 season? Don't forget that they'll also have to re-sign Carey Price after this season, which will mean a considerable increase in salary. I'm sure many teams will be lining up to offer Price a huge contract, with Mtl having the right to match all offers, which i'm certain they will. Jaro Halak proved last night that he's not a #1 goaltender. He's a heck of a good #2 goaltender on any team, but not strong enough to spend an entire season as a team's #1.

Finally, the team will have to wake up & realize you can't let people go with getting nothing in return. Wouldn't Francis Bouillon look good with the Habs right now? What about Stephane Robidas? Why spend a first-round pick and spend a lot of money on him during the early part of his career with the organization & then let him go to the Leafs (i'm referring to Mike Komisarek) without getting anything in return? Same thing with Saku Koivu. Why not trade these players, along with Alex Kovalev, if you didn't want them back next season? By the way, for all the idiots who like to boo Komisarek everytime he touches the puck when playing in Mtl, he actually wanted to re-sign with the team. He loved playing for the Habs and loved the city of Montreal and the passion the fans bring to the sport. However, when he didn't hear anything from Gainey until June 30th, the day before free agency officially began, he realized that the team no longer was seriously interested in his services. Why wait all that time to offer him anything? So he basically gave them the finger & sold his services to the highest bidder, which is what ANYONE would have done. They also screwed up the Kovalev thing the same way. He wanted to return to the Habs and possibly be their next captain. THE HABS STILL DONT HAVE A CAPTAIN, THIS BEING THEIR CENTENNIAL YEAR!!! Anyways, on July 1st, the Habs finally made an offer (kind of a lowball offer), and the Kovalev camp came back with a counter-offer. The Habs then told them they'd get back to them. Next thing you know, they had obtained the 3 smurfs & never did get back to Kovalev, who had no choice but to sign with the highest bidder (Ottawa) since Mtl was nearly capped out by then.

It's been an embarrassing centennial year for the Habs. Embarrassing!!

(and i mean this as a disapponted hockey fan....who actually does want the Habs to make the playoffs since i love HOCKEY)

i listened as you read off to me one trip this past summer as to who was on at Asservissante that night from your laptop so i know you do know how to read,

Do you know how to read and write? Here's what I recommend (especially for mental midgets such as yourself)

http://www.hookedonphonics.com/index.aspx

What level should you start at? Would "Third Grade and Up" be too much? How about "1st grade:"? Yeah, that sounds about right.

bwahahahahahaha......
