TLUSTY ASSISTS ON GAME-WINNER IN RETURN TO TORONTO

It was Maurice who said yes when GM Jim Rutherford asked if he should acquire Tlusty, and by all accounts he's acquitted himself well with the Hurricanes. In seven games with Carolina, the forward has a goal and four assists.

"He's a very, very smart player with room to still improve," said Maurice. "He's going well."

(Carolina fans thank Mr. Burke for that nice gift to the Canes)

Habs own the league's best power play.

Of course since the return of Markov hasn't had an impact as per Doc :p, it must be because of Bob's great signing of Marc-Andre Bergeron.

By the way, wouldn't Bergeron have looked good in a Leaf's uniform? He's better defensively and much better offensively than both Douchemin and Slowmisarek and costs 1/6 the price. :D

again for the slow and blinded, EXCUSE..... and theres always hope, what do you think keeps habs fans going these days? afterall,it looks like it is either win this year or bust!

What, pray tell, does this response of yours have to do with the original point that the Sens have been hampered by injuries to their best players?

actually whats even more funny with that is Maxim Lapierre actually got a "+" on that goal, and has a whopping 8 points in 48 games, with a minus 11  and i hear he is still running his mouth and then backing down from fights when challenged, ........ i thought the cowardly lion was in the wizard of oz? ok then, from now on, lapierre is now gonna be known as the "cowardly canuck"

Burke’s Strategy With Kaberle Puzzling

the Leafs are dropping like a stone in the Eastern Conference and are threatening to finish in the NHL basement with their worst record in more than 10 years.

He has traded the Leafs’ first-round pick in the next two NHL drafts. The free agents he signed last summer [Michael Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin, Colton Orr and Jonas Gustavsson] have had a negligable impact on the hockey club to this point.

Nothing puzzling really, Burke is a terrible g.m. The Leafs are sitting near the basement of the league - expect more of the same next season.

Trade rumours around the NHL

Sheldon Souray is being shopped around after saying he'd waive his no-trade clause. Likely suitors are the Rangers.

Pittsburgh has been actively scouting Alex Ponikarovski of the Leafs.

The Washington Capitals are now the top suitors to obtain Kovalchuk.

The NY Rangers are also interested in obtaining Vincent Lecavalier.

Pittsburgh is rumoured to be dangling Sergei Gonchar.

Calgary Flames are once again interested in re-obtaining Alex Tanguay in order to give them more scoring punch.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild left wing Guillaume Latendresse (gee-OHM' lah-ten-DRESS') has been honored by the NHL for his productive performance last week.

He received the league's "Third Star" award on Monday after totaling four goals and four assists in four games. He had a career-high three assists in a win over Pittsburgh and his first career hat trick in a loss at Phoenix.

Washington's Alex Ovechkin and St. Louis goalie Chris Mason were given the NHL's "First Star" and "Second Star" weekly awards.

QMJHL SUSPENDS CORMIER INDEFINITELY FOR ELBOW TO THE HEAD

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has suspended Rouyn-Noranda Huskies' forward Patrice Cormier indefinitely for his hit on Quebec Remparts' defenseman Mikael Tam which occurred during Sunday's game.

QMJHL Disciplinary Prefect Raymond Bolduc confirmed Monday that an announcement on the official length of the suspension will be made once the disciplinary process has been completed.

Cormier, who was Canada's captain at the IIHF World Junior Hockey tournament earlier in the month, came off the bench for a line change and hit Tam in the head with an elbow.

Tam, an 18-year-old defenceman with the Remparts went into convulsions on the ice due to the hit and was immediately taken to a local hospital where he remains as a result of brain trauma. Remparts spokesperson Nicole Bouchard said that Tam underwent a brain scan after the game and that a second scan on Monday morning showed no deterioration in his condition. Bouchard stated that Tam is expected to be released from hospital on Tuesday.

Cormier was given a major penalty for charging and was ejected from the game.

Quebec provincial police questioned witnesses at the rink after the game. Police spokesman Marie-Josee Ouellet said the incident is under investigation to see if there are grounds for criminal charges.

The 19-year old Cormier is no stranger to controversy. In an exhibition game prior to the World Junior tournament, the second round draft choice of the New Jersey Devils in 2008 nailed Sweden's Anton Rodin with an elbow to the head.

Rumours around the NHL today

The Bruins are interested in obtaining Kovalchuk & reunite him with Marc Savard, who's had a so-so season so far.

The Penguins are very interested in obtaining Ray Whitney of the Hurricanes.

The Rangers are considering sending down free agent bust Wade Redden to the minors in order to free up some cap room & allow them to make a big trade.

Chicago will soon make a decision if their current goaltending situation will be enough to get them far into the playoffs. Most people doubt it.

The Montreal Canadiens are still trying to figure out what to do with Jaroslav Halak. Most teams would prefer obtaining Carey Price, but Gainey won't trade him unless an unbelievable offer shows up in front of him, which won't happen.

Sounds like a Brian Burke type of player - put him on a line with Orr and Roseweed.
