stroke? can you get a stroke from uncontrollable laughter via your posts? now, what might give me a stroke is if Gainey can find a way for someone to take Gomez's contract off his hands, sign his free agents that are actually worth signing, get Price to stop partying so much and get serious about his team, stop the Canadiens from wearing those horrid striped jailhouse looking nostolgic uniforms again, get a real mascot instead of the expos cast away, and find a way to get the habs into the playoffs the next 2-3 years AFTER and IF they get in this season, then i might have a stroke:D:D:D:D

Gomez has 3 goals and 15 assists since Dec. 23rd(in is last 15 games). How many marble loafs players can say the same???

Gionta,Camallleri,Bergeron and Pouliot are all Gainey's aquisitions and are all PRESENTLY HELPING THEIR TEAM WIN,as opposed to Komisarek,Beauchemin,Kessel and Orr who have all been deceptions for about everybody except a few stubborn hogtown fans who just can't come up with numbers, stats and facts to back up their arguments.:p

Now Gainey is no genius, but at least is latest acquisitions ,or some of them, are putting up numbers on the board, unlike Burke's.

So please gents, instead of childish insults, how about actual facts and stats. How many points, how many goals have Kessel and company have to brag about? What is their plus-minus ratio?
Have they helped their team win games so far?
Not too many I think...

Today's rumors around the NHL

-Only a handful of teams are in the running to obtain Ilya Kovalachuk

-Leafs interested in obtaining Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun

-Sources in the Leafs organization doubt the Leafs will go after high-priced free agent Ilya Kovalchuk. His price is deemed too high for the rebuilding team.

-Trashers are getting a lot of phone calls in regards to Colby Armstrong.

-Flyers are looking to obtain a quality defenceman.

-Sources close to Sheldon Souray claimed he will only accept a trade to a west conference team.

-Flames forward Ollie Jokinen is on the trade market.

-Pittsburgh unable to complete a trade with Carolina for a forward & will look elsewhere. Leafs' Ponikarovski maybe?

-Blues have made it known that Paul Kariya can be had for the right price.

Big Georges to play in Sweden?

Perhaps Comrade Georges Laraque, friend of the working man, will consider marrying into some legal representation or otherwise expanding his circle to include a contract specialist.

We say this, because his view of the obligations he continues to have to the Montreal Canadiens, who are paying him the princely sum of $1.5-million (U.S.) this year, seems to be akin to his hockey skills: somewhat deficient.

After saying there's no way he will play again this year, it turns out NHLPA Georges has been blabbing to the Swedish papers, and says he has contacted AIK Stockholm about a short-term move, seeing as the Habs have relieved him of his NHL gig.

How the Canadiens could have labelled this guy as a distraction is beyond us.

The Habs' position is that Georges must first seek permission to arrange a loan move (which he apparently hasn't). The team also says it has no more information to offer on the subject, but we can already see the wheels turning in Trader Bob's head.

Why, Georges told a Swedish paper he'd even play for the bargain basement price of nothing. Other than a plane ticket, of course.

According to the always-dodgy Google translator, Laraque told Aftonbladet that "I would play there for free . . . I would come over if they just paid trips, meals and expenses. No salary."

For anyone who actually speaks the language of Ikea and Elin Nordegren, the link is here.

Apparently AIK is under a wee bit of financial duress at the mo, so we're impressed by Laraque's generosity toward the team that employed him during the 2004-05 lockout. It would seem he wants to help AIK back to the top "because that's what they deserve." How a player like Georges would help accomplish that remains a mystery.

In fairness to the big man, he also told the paper it's up to the Habs to allow him to go, and if AIK is willing to give him a stick and a helmet, who are we to judge?

Still, the whole player transfer bit is something of a sticky wicket for both the PA and the NHL, particularly when it comes to the Russian Kontinental Hockey League, so it's good of the Montreal Canadiens player rep to bustle into the issue with typical aplomb (AIK, for those who may be wondering, looks set to join the KHL next season).

All that said, the airport limo may already be beeping outside our man Georges' house.

A cursory and ill-informed reading of the CBA tells us Laraque would have to clear waivers - pretty much a certainty given the market for 33-year-old sluggers who make $1.5-million - and waive his no-movement clause in order to make the move.

Doing that would presumably clear a roster spot for the Habs and provide some cap relief, as Nikita Filatov's loan move from the Columbus Blue Jackets to CSKA Moscow did.

So one steerage class ticket to Stockholm it is, then.

Pack your steamer trunk Georges, maybe we've sold you short on the whole "I've got a contract" thing.

UPDATE: A note from a Swedish-speaking person was just forwarded to FI HQ, it would seem the Aftonposten article cited above cites an AIK representative saying, presumably in a thick Swedish accent, "this sounds too good to be true, but we're thinking about it."

The Elite League also apparently has a player signing deadline of some kind this coming Sunday, so if Georges is going to move it will happen fast. And here's the verbatim quote from Laraque, who scored 16 points in 16 games for AIK in 2004-05: "I don't care about money right now. I'd come over if they paid for my travel, meals and other accommodations. I don't need a salary." He also says the ball's in AIK's court.

read my previous post's instead of having to rehash this over on a daily basis will ya? i will repeat for you and "slowly" so you might grasp the concept at hand, ok?

Gainey was to turn around the habs into stanley cup contenders within 5 years , your in your 6th year led by gainey, meanwhile the leafs are in their first burke led year, and IT TAKES TIME, and there are facts to argue that gainey has failed, and many truths, its plain to see, he has not done anything but made your team average at best and set you up for more hard times the next several years salary cap wise... now can you begin to understand this or are you still confused?

no gm is perfect, you have to find the right mix of players to mesh with each other, and contrary to what you or any other habbie fan has to say, Beauchemin and Komi have been steady after their horrible starts, just as you say gomez has been lately, well so has #22 and #8... and Kessel last i looked is getting all his points w/o a high profile center to play with, but he's getting alot of time playing with Bozak to see if it will work next year, and if not, Burke will get him the guy needed..

why is Plekanec's having a great year vs his 39 points all of last year? simple, he has someone to pass the puck to who can actually score, but kessel will still get 60 points a year w/o a first line center, would Pleks if he didnt have a top scorer to pass to? Kessel was a good pickup by burke, maybe Plekanecs will have a better year next season passing the puck to Kessel , lol... gainey sure wont be able to sign him the way things are now, whats he got to spend, 2, 3 million after he sings one of your goalies? Pleks will get 5-6 million, in todays nhl it is hard to have 4 first liners, and a top goalie making 30 million a season combined and still be a cup contender, not unless some young guys can step in and last i looked theres not alot of that at hamilton

Just as I thought; No facts no valid arguments...

Red Wings have the best GM and scouting team in the NHL.BY FAR!

...not some overrated goon-hockey advocate and coah who puts Orr,Mayers and Rosehill on the same line at the end of a 6-2 game and cheap shots a non-fighter all star defenceman,Green.

Burke and Wilson's troglodyte line will probably get increased ict time for their contribution to the game.

At least all of those 3 players are still playing hockey, whereas that dummy Boring Bob Gainey told his big overpaid goon to stay home for the rest of the season & they'll eat up his contract next year. What a waste of money by Boring Bob!!! What an incompetent idiot he is!!

Leafs facing schedule crunch

Already mired near the league basement with only 17 wins in 53 games this season, ...

Leafs coach Ron Wilson, however, said he was unconcerned about his team's upcoming opponents.

“We don't fear playing anybody,” Wilson said

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/leafs-facing-schedule-crunch/article1444683/

maybe Burke should listen to Wilson:

Wilson knows the Kings franchise well having coached division rivals for long stretches in Anaheim and San Jose, and said the plan Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi put in place years earlier is finally bearing fruit.

“He knows how to build teams,” Wilson said. “You start and you build through the draft and you develop players in the off-season.

interestingly, exactly what Burke hasn't done by trading away two firsts and a second for a dried up Kessel.

Wow! You're a fuckin' genius, Einstein!! You came up with that all by yourself? I'm impressed! :D

Thanks Doc. If you need my further assistance in pointing actual facts out to you, feel free to ask. I'm always willing to help those less fortunate than I.

I'm laughing my head off reading this crap! LOL!!!!!!!!!

Hey, i'm a Sharks fan, but never was a big Toskala fan. Which is why i was happy to see him get traded a couple of years ago.......LOL!!!!!!

Let's see Anti-Einstein: you post of your deep and abiding love for the leafs (that is, until you jump ship again) but then bad-mouth half their team - as well as the entire coaching staff - but it's funny (?) when someone else says he's not a big fan of one player on his team? Doc, please go back to the store where you bought that deck of cards and ask them to give you the 51 that are missing.

Exactly what the Leafs did with Tie Dumi - pay him not to play.

Exactly right Cosmo. No facts, no valid arguments...and for the two leaf-lovers no surprise. Their only argument always comes down to insulting the other poster or making things up.

There are two reasons for this: 1. They HAVE no arguments because the fact is that their team rots. 2. They are inacapable of admitting they are wrong, and they are incapable of mature, intelligent discussion.

I don't give a fuck about statistics. For example, almost anyone who plays in New Jersey will have great stats. It depends how a certain player fits into a certain system. Stats are the worse thing to ever happen to professional 'team' sports & it's simply a tool used by both players & teams when it comes to deciding how much a player should get.

I figured it would be a good idea to produce the evidence before Doc deletes it. (As we all know, he's quite good at that.)

Gee Doc, maybe...just MAYBE.. the players in Jersey "have great stats" because they're a very good team! Wow, I guess THAT thought never occurred to you. With 3 Cups, they trail only Detroit in the past decade and a half. Golly, do you think stats might actually MEAN something after all? Strangely, the leafs DON'T have good stats and...oh wow yeah...they ALSO don't have a good team.

gainey will be run out of town if the habs dont make the playoffs, cause REAL hab fans know how he has crippled this team after this season, not those wearing their red white and blue hab blinders
