Islanders d hillen struck in face by ovechkin's hard shot

New York Islanders defenceman Jack Hillen was taken to hospital on Tuesday night after being struck in the face by a hard shot from Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin.

The Islanders said Hillen was taken to the hospital by ambulance to be evaluated. He had skated off the ice with assistance after being hurt during the first period.

Hillen was protecting the area in front of goalie Dwayne Roloson during a power play when Ovechkin wound up for a drive in between the blue line and the circles. Hillen appeared to be hit in the chin and immediately dropped to the ice with 2:31 left in the period.

Blood pooled in front of Hillen as he was tended to by medical staff. Ovechkin also checked on Hillen, who skated off despite a stretcher being wheeled onto the ice. Hillen remained down on his knees, hunched over, for several minutes before being helped to his feet.

Teammates and Ovechkin tapped their sticks on the ice in hockey applause fashion as Hillen went down the tunnel.

I figured it would be a good idea to produce the evidence before Doc deletes it..

read my previous post's instead of having to rehash this over on a daily basis will ya? i will repeat for you and "slowly" so you might grasp the concept at hand, ok?

Gainey was to turn around the habs into stanley cup contenders within 5 years , your in your 6th year led by gainey, meanwhile the leafs are in their first burke led year, and IT TAKES TIME, and there are facts to argue that gainey has failed, and many truths, its plain to see, he has not done anything but made your team average at best and set you up for more hard times the next several years salary cap wise... now can you begin to understand this or are you still confused?

no gm is perfect, you have to find the right mix of players to mesh with each other, and contrary to what you or any other habbie fan has to say, Beauchemin and Komi have been steady after their horrible starts, just as you say gomez has been lately, well so has #22 and #8... and Kessel last i looked is getting all his points w/o a high profile center to play with, but he's getting alot of time playing with Bozak to see if it will work next year, and if not, Burke will get him the guy needed..

why is Plekanec's having a great year vs his 39 points all of last year? simple, he has someone to pass the puck to who can actually score, but kessel will still get 60 points a year w/o a first line center, would Pleks if he didnt have a top scorer to pass to? Kessel was a good pickup by burke, maybe Plekanecs will have a better year next season passing the puck to Kessel , lol... gainey sure wont be able to sign him the way things are now, whats he got to spend, 2, 3 million after he sings one of your goalies? Pleks will get 5-6 million, in todays nhl it is hard to have 4 first liners, and a top goalie making 30 million a season combined and still be a cup contender, not unless some young guys can step in and last i looked theres not alot of that at hamilton

Komi and Beauchemin have been steady blah blah blah....yeah right, steady in their mediocrity!!!LOL!

So far Burke's acquisition havent done the job. That is,help their team win hockey games. So he's O for 1.Not considering last season when he arrived late.Already a season wasted. No playoffs spot,no winning team.

Once again you can't come up with actual facts.Yeah the truth hurts,indeed....:(
And if Gainey has his team average at best, imagine what have Burke's done so far!!!
And please spare us with the morals that it takes time blah blah blah...by the time he gets someone to play with Kessel,it will already be too late...lol!

Exactly right Cosmo. No facts, no valid arguments...and for the two leaf-lovers no surprise. Their only argument always comes down to insulting the other poster or making things up.

There are two reasons for this: 1. They HAVE no arguments because the fact is that their team rots. 2. They are inacapable of admitting they are wrong, and they are incapable of mature, intelligent discussion.

I've tried to be clear and formal, yet they still come up with their typical hogtown maple rags attitude of'' my dad is stronger than yours because I say so and Don cherry says so too''.
But stats don't lie.Orr,Komisarek,Beauchemin and Kessel haven't helped their sorry team win games. In other words they havent done the job they get pay millions to do.
...and Burke will be 0 for 2 at the end of the season.A very bad start. Not even competing for playoffs.Bottom of the barrel.:(

Cosmo, take the red white and blue blinders off, gaineys had 6, yes SIX years to do something, he has not, not in the minds of whats expected by habs fans, and thats win a cup!... burke has had not even a full season yet and once he gets things the way he wants them, then we will see what happens, you cant judge burke yet but you can gainey, and he has failed miserably and if you doubt that, then YOU dont believe those, FACTS..speak about the truth hurting ROFL!

your very clear and formal, but your problem is your just wrong, im sure you dont watch both players on a nightly basis, and if you did then you would realise your wrong about them both...btw, Happy Birthday , to bad the habs couldnt have got you a win tonight to start it out better...

Burke builds franchises. He's a builder. A winner. Gainey destroys franchises. He's a destroyer. A total failure.

A winner!?!
He won ONE SC and that makes him a winner!?!

Sorry but if your looking for winners and builders look elswhere!Lamoriello and Holland are true builders and winners.Their teams have been steadily winning during the pas decade and a half. Not Burke's.
As for Gainey I never been a fan but at least his team is presently AHEAD of your heroe's!And will remain.Burkes on a very bad start as a GM in toronto.

Yes indeed, winning one Stanley Cup makes him a winner, considering what he did to build the team that would eventually make it to the big show. His acquisitions back then are still regarded today as being masterful. But it was also his years in Vancouver that gave the hockey world that he'd be a success as a GM. How he managed to draft the Sedin twins all at once was brilliant. Even his tenure in Hartford was genial with some of his acquisitions, including moving up in the draft to pick future hall of famer Chris Pronger.

I agree that Lou Lamoriello & Ken Holland deserve to be among the same group of top GMs as Brian Burke, but they also made their mistakes at times.

As for Boring Bob Gainey, he's been a total bust in Mtl & his departure from Mtl after this season is likely. His intense motivational speeches to the troups haven't been successful, it seems. Don't be surprised if he doesn't wind up with the Leafs in some player development capacity, where he's more suited. Hell, maybe he'll even bring his favorite pupil Carey Price along, which i'd welcome.

Today's trade rumors around the NHL

-The LA Kings have offered young defenceman Jack Johnson & prospects for Ilya Kovalchuk.

-The Edmonton Oilers might be sellers in the next couple of months in order to improve their drafting position & draft projected #1 pick Taylor Hall.

-The Boston Bruins are looking for a top 6 forward & have been presented with several trade offers.

-Jamal Mayers' agent has approached the Leafs about trading his client to a team which would increase his ice-time.

Doomsday scenario

All Ron Wilson needs now is a blindfold and a cigarette.

More and more, the Maple Leafs coach has the look of a condemned man.

His team is in another free fall.

Toronto remains in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, with the last-place Carolina Hurricanes nipping at their heels.

Did you forget your meds today? Come back when you've woken up from your dream. Once again you’ve clearly demonstrated why your hockey knowledge is dubious and suspect - at best.

Correct as per the SC Bob won in Dallas.

The only reason that Burke was fortunate enough to win a Cup in Anaheim was because of what Brian Murray left him. Ass clown#1 and his idiot parrot are clearly the biggest chumps on this board.

Cosmo I am usually in complete agreement with what you post.

This time however I must disagree. Why? Well because Komi and Beauchemin will have to improve drastically before they are good enough to be called mediocre!

You DO realize, don't you, that what you accuse me of is EXACTLY what you do...or are you simply too thick to comprehend even this simple fact?

By the way, congratulations on copying from the best (namely me) with your statement about a VERY close personal friend.

As usual Cosmo you are completely correct. The problem is that you use facts and stats while Frick and Frack just come back with stupid insults, ignore all your points, and start bashing the habs - as if that will somehow make their pathetic team look better. And by the way, Burke might have won a Cup in Anaheim, but the real GROUNDWORK for the Cup was done by Bryan Murray. Burke just waltzed in at the right time and took the credit, then managed to destroy the Cup-winning team in short order.
