haha, I wish Burke was the 1 and only guy making team decisions.

You got to figure Burke's hands are tied somewhere by someone higher up screwing things up. I still don't buy Burke being the sole decision maker - the guy's who hasn't lifted the Leafs outta the basement. But I do feel new ownership would correct that... I'm sure I thought the same thing the last time Toronto changed hands.

Good answer, but more a common excuse don't you think. You point to the NYY's success due to lack of cap in BB. I point to the Red Wings, Sharks, Blackhawks as examples in hky. Ownership is a big factor, not just $$ spent on UFAs don't you agree? You need a decisive owner or a strong individual to take charge on a big board of dir.

Bottomline, I am just tired of the Leafs sucking annually when they should be a powershouse given resources, major market, fan base, rev.streams, etc.

I'd like to smoke the same stuff you did tonight, ET. :D

What does Detroit, Sharks & Chicago's success have to do with the cap? They've succeeded because of a good front office, good scouting, coaching & luck. The Yankees & Red Sox would probably suck if it weren't for the fact they're allowed to outside literally any other team in baseball. With a cap, they'd be put in the level as the other MLB teams who have to get creative in order to get buy.

Considering the amount of billions the Yankees have been spending on players in the past 20 years or more, it's astounding that they haven't won at least 50% of the world series over that time. I can only attribute their failure to do so to gross incompetence on the part of management.

If you compare this to hockey (if there was no cap), a team operating their budget like the Yankees would likely have a salary cap of $200 million, while most of the other teams would be operating under the $60 million range. If that team operating like the Yankees couldn't win a few Stanley Cups every 5 years or so, something would be drastically wrong & they should fire their entire front-office staff, plus their coaches.

Ownership is a factor in all professional sports. But half of the owners out there are egomaniacs & incompetents. I'd rather have a conglomerate owning a team such as the Leafs with a sound GM than having Harold Ballard running the circus with the likes of Gord Stellick & George Armstrong as his support staff.

I honestly don't know why you're so down on the Leafs & continue trashing them. For fuck's sakes, they're the 2nd youngest team in the NHL!! Give them a fucking break, will ya? Stop talking about the past & look towards the future!

Brian Burke is the most qualified GM they've ever had since Cliff Fletcher came around in the early 90's. Only a total dummy would disagree that the Leafs are not on the right path! They've got very good young players & i like their chemistry. Phil Kessel is already a star at such a young age & players such as Luke Schenn & Dion Phaneuf will take care of things at the blue line for years to come. Tyler Bozak is already ahead of other star players like Pavel Datsyuk in terms of development & age. The farm team is loaded up with prospects & Nazem Kadri will be a candidate for the Calder come next season.

Things are looking up! :D

Sorry Doc Holliday, I don't do Roach Olymics with buddies, only the ladies.

Re-read your post... that's the point and u made it for me. Ever let subordinates determine their own mandate or work schedule... low volume work flow, not efficient, lacks direction. Hmmm, which Canadian hockey team does that sound like? Right, the overspending, inefficient and not very successful Toronto Maple Leafs.

Burke needs to be motivated to win. He has zero incentive right now to do that in TO. It's my POV that no one is telling him what to do, more precisely, no loud mouth demanding owner is saying Burke, "What the fuck have you done with 3 yrs of my money and what are the results to date. I don't need a championship caliber AHL team, I need a Stanley Cup parade on Yonge Street!"

Too much power and little accountability with Brian these past few yrs. Bottomline, Toronto needs an owner that can light a fire under Burke's big complacent ass!

I think your reading too much of what Burke spins in the media.
I'm a Brian Burke fan which is why I'm pissed the guy hasn't shown much for his efforts after 3 yrs. Will the Buds miss the Playoffs again? Probably. So 3 yrs of what, building assets in the farm. Not sure Burke's primary job was to be an excellent Player Development Director. I am looking at the Buds future... I don't see it coming together before yr 5 of Burke's mandate - meaning no Playoffs for another 2yrs.

I'm surprised youre not bothered by the lack of winning in Toronto. I'm fucking pissed a business that spends that much time and money has little to show for it's efforts. They haven't moved the dial one bit in 3 yrs. Great youth in the system, but Fletcher didn't more as interim GM relative to Burke.

3 years of Burke running the show. Stop preaching about "potential"... starting asking what are the results to date? Results, standings, playoff revenue...

Look at NJ, look at Bolts, ppl said give them time to turn it around, the pieces are starting to come together... NO, the coach was the problem in NJ and the GM was the issue in Tampa. Fire and replace both and look at the results.

In Toronto's case, fire the coach because it's clear as day (like today's Blue sky) that the players stopped playing for Wilson long ago. Yes, the pieces are there but the driver is retarded - Wilson that is.

Evillethings, you seem like a good guy and knowledgeable in alot of things, but You really do NOT follow the Leafs very closely at all do you? Maybe a new owner would be good , especially for Burke, so he would get a big fat raise for everything the man has done since he got here, which by the way he had very very little at all to work with when he arrived.

BB has basically built a whole new team, do you think building a contender happens overnight? He came in and couldnt just "tweak" the team he inherited, SO, he tore down, and rebuilt, and the rebuild continues, it does not happen in a year or two. Now as i posted before, he has a team contending for a playoff spot, he has stock piled the farm, has a ton of draft picks, he brought in 2 of the 3 cornerstones any team needs for success in Kessel and Phaneuf, has upgraded scouting and management, and has brought excitement back to the city of Toronto for March Hockey for the first time in a few years. He is one big centreman , one good dman, a winger, and one good pk'er away from a contender. The Centreman is the Key, which will have to be had thru a trade or free agency, OR, thru the farm, but that wont be for a few years if thats the way we get that player. Kadri should be ready next season, but i think as a winger, and the Dman we will need will most likely come from free agency this summer, OR from the farm. The Penalty Killer will come thru FA as well, unless someone emerges from the Marlies.

It is obvious your not a diehard Leafs fan, or you would not be bashing Burke every chance you get, but hey, thats your right, but you have no idea what your talking about, respectfully. If your really a Leafs fan, study what the man has done for this team since he got here, they say this man is on the job 365, 24/7 and it seems to be making a difference. Will we make the playoffs this year, probably not, but since kabby, versteeg and beauch left, this team changed, for the better overall. And with the young guys coming thru the system, the immediate future as well as long term looks very bright for the first time in years.

Would you like to go back to the last Sundin year, with all those guys, getting old together? OR have what Burke has done and made us Young, Fast, and Exciting over a period of about a yr and a half? Point is, with the Sundin team, we were going nowhere "slowly" Now, we are going somewhere, FAST, and thats up the standings, maybe no playoffs this year, but for the first time in MANY years, we clearly have a reason to be excited, and we are one of the youngest teams in the entire NHL. Add those 4 key pieces and bring up some top prospects and this is a playoff team for sure, and soon a contender. Btw, 3 of those 4 are easy to obtain, the Big Skilled Centreman, may not be.

Burke needs to be motivated to win. He has zero incentive right now to do that in TO. It's my POV that no one is telling him what to do, more precisely, no loud mouth demanding owner is saying Burke, "What the fuck have you done with 3 yrs of my money and what are the results to date. I am starting to agree with Doc, what are you smoking? ... Players stopped playing for Wilson eh? lol, ok......... um.. NOT! NJ had the same players as last season, and a new coach was trying to run a whole new system, they put the OLD system back in that the players were familar with and walllaaaa!....... Tampa, had the players, and as Doc pointed out, the infighting between owners was the majority of the problem there, im sorry but when you have the Talent that team had, and still does, sure it could be turned around quickly, just like in NJ. The Leafs just needed everything new, all around, it was time for change, a complete makeover, and FINALLY, they are getting that.

I think your reading too much of what Burke spins in the media.

My POV comes from the my belief that Burke was brought in to be competitive ASAP - which I havent seen. To qualify that, competitive meaning they're hovering in the middle of the pack consistently if not higher in the standings. Not what they've been doing the last 3 yrs, bad start, bad middle, then someone gets hot (no, it's not the coaching otherwise they'd be that good from Oct onward) and seem to be on the verge of a playoff berth some March, but fall short.

It's a tease and just not what I expect from Burke. That's all! He hasn't met my expectations relative to his trackrecord + experience.

Like I told Doc Holliday, I only share smoke with the ladies...

OK, now ... take off your Leafs hat and put on a Hockey fan's hat... don't you see how you and Doc Holliday are kinda making excuses for the Leafs Re-Building. The Buds have been rebuilding since 1990's.

Whatever u n Doc r sellin', I can't say I'm buying. Whatever u guys are drinking, likely Merlot, I don't want any - Thank You! It's a rotten excuse, pieces in place, system stocked, coach starting to get results, some key moves made...

Rewind 10yrs - nothing's changed. Rewind 5 Yrs - status quo. Rewind to Fletcher's interim stint, nada!
In fact, Fletcher did pretty much the same relative to the short amount of time her was fixing Ferguson's F-ups!

I simply think at some pt Leafs fans need to demand quality + RESULTS, not just accept promises + POTENTIAL + boat load of maybe's. I'd but it if the Leafs we based in Edmonton where no one wants to play, or Buffalo where they actually r watching the budget, even Nashville where they have ownership, budget issues + a GM that doesn't know how to get them over the top (Poile).

Shit, just realized, what the fuck would we talk about if we didn't have the Buds to crap on? Habs, no fun... mind you there was a time when Gainey was screwing up royally - coincided with the death of his daughter (sailing/boating mis-hap). I'll go out on a limb, think Burke is not himself since the death of his son. It's possible. Yeah, I'm trying to find an excuse for Burke... had to resort to insanity. [ putting on flame suit ]

Pacioretty likely to be back for playoffs

MONTREAL - The Canadiens say injured forward Max Pacioretty could be ready for the playoffs.

Yes, it sounds incredible. But head coach Jacques Martin was beaming Thursday with news from his team's medical staff that says Pacioretty is on complete rest until March 26, then begins rehab with contact skating expected three to five weeks from today.

Pacioretty, 22, suffered a fractured vertebra and a concussion when his head struck a stanchion at the Bell Centre when he was hit by Boston Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara on March 8.

Any comment on this one ?
http://www.torontosun.com/news/columnists/joe_warmington/2011/03/16/17645821.html

Now here is what Colin Campbell had to say just before...
The NHL plans to circulate the highlight package to all 30 teams within the next week or so, according to the reports.
"It's a process that has never been done before in the season," "This is so important an issue that if we can possibly avoid just one concussion, we should do this."
