With training camp beginning I am opening this NHL pre-season thread. This thread is for serious discussion only. Any flame posts, insults or other such posts will be met with an immediate 1 week suspension. Keep it on topic.

This thread will be closed when the regular season begins and the regular thread will be opened. This thread is also being used to test whether members can behave themselves and carry on a civilized discussion. If there are too many infractions in this thread, it may well spell the end of all hockey discussion on the board and I will open a new thread so that you may discuss Battle of the Blades instead.

Five questions the Leafs must answer

After missing the playoffs for the last five seasons, the Toronto Maple Leafs head into training camp Friday hoping that this will be the year.

... will the Leafs, who finished with the second-worst record in the NHL last season, extend their mark of futility into a sixth year?

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2010/09/16/five-questions-the-leafs-must-answer/

The answer is obvious

EDIT: I forgot to mention that posts in this thread must be useful and contain more than just quotes and links to website articles along with a one or two line agreement. Let's see members post their own ideas and opinions instead of simply agreeing with others.

This post is borderline to baiting and will be considered such in the rest of this and other Official threads and will be met with a penalty. Anyone who intends to focus their posts only on criticizing one team better be ready to expand their outlook or post only in the 'free for all' thread which will be opened when the season starts.

Here is to a GREAT Season..... why must the preseason be 7-9 games in less than 2 weeks tho? more like 5-6 in that time would be good and use an extra 2-3 days of practice time, afterall the season is already a long 82 games. oh well, camp starts today!

So since we can just post an opinion... here's one :
A couple more games lost aren't gonna make a difference for the Leafs !

Hello everyone,

I did not start this thread so that it could become a repository of articles posted elsewhere on the Internet. The intention was for people to share their own opinions on pre-season events, not to post the opinions of various Sports writers. If you wish to post an excerpt or a link to an article, that is fine as long as it is accompanied with your own view of the events or your opinion of the article referenced. Otherwise I see no reason to continue this thread as there has been nothing posted here, other than the post made by lgna, that is on topic and could not have been posted in the Hot Stove thread.

Hello Doc,

I have no problem with the posting of links as long as you share your views regarding the linked article and do not simply post the article. I have no problem with such posts of just the article in the Hot Stove thread.

I also have a notice to make to all members who post in the Official threads. If you wish to retain those avatars which can be considered taking a shot at a specific sports team, and yes that means both lgna and G1Gballday, you will not be permitted to post in the official threads and any posts you do make will be removed. The Official threads are to remain clear of any provocations and that includes images and avatars.

Dougie Gilmour back with the Leafs!

ahhhhhh , ok so not as a player lol, but as a one day assistant to Ron Wilson and company.Having Doug back for a day reminds me how one trade turned around a franchise when they traded for #93 ... Kinda like Deja Vu with the Phaneuf trade, same team also, Calgary both times.

I have a feeling this might be Dougie's last year in Kingston. I wouldn't be surprised to see him take over the Marlies next season (or earlier), in order to be groomed to one day replace Ron Wilson behind the Leafs bench. I've made it no secret that i'd also wouldn't mind seeing former Leafs player Kirk Muller behind the Leafs bench in a head coaching capacity. I think he has all the tools to one day become a very successful head coach.

p.s. I love your new avatar.

Not the beginning that Carey Price hope for! But the rest of the team play a great game, dominating the Bruins in the last 2 periods.

The Leafs played a great game tonight. Very rough & tough game...lots of fights, goals....old time hockey is back in Toronto!

I heard the great fans in Montreal booed Carey Price tonight. Oh well, we'll just have to get used to it!

From what I saw during the first 30 mins (he played half the game) after the first 2 goals the fans were cheeering whenever he stopped the puck. 4 goals on 9 shots....

Someone who watched the game told me the fans cheered loudly when he was pulled. Classy. He also supposedly had no chance on at least 2 of the goals scored by Patrice Bergeron, who was left alone in front him (little defensive support from teammates, i was told). I liked what Mike Cammalleri said after the game, telling fans that if they want to cheer for the habs, they better get on the bus & cheer for Carey Price since everyone in the room is pulling for him. I also was touched by Hal Gill's words & demeanor in regards to what occurred. One question: where was Brian Gionta while everyone else was defending their goaltender? Give the 'C' to Cammalleri !!

Is it true that the habs fans booed him all night long? If so, i feel for the poor guy. It'll be a very long season for Mr. Carey Price.....and i suspect for habs fans.

Yeah we know how softy you are ! poor kid !
A long season ? Not so. I've got a friend who's a die hard Price fan and I'll probably make good money with him for every game Price will loose or don't make it.

2nd game was great. He didn't make it and P.K. was very good ! :)
Now here's a guy I will cheer for. A guy who isn't afraid of doing his job.

Not a baby like the ones they had for so many years in the Leafs !
