Halladay wants to be a Yankee, now Merlot don't go off throwing a hissy fit because it's Halliday saying this and not me and don't blame him for wanting to be on a winner.

Stop the presses...Joe.t are you making a prediction?:eek:
Because the article I read said he "would approve a trade" to the Yankees...so is "wants to be a Yankee" your prediction...?
And cause the article also said he'd consider the Angels, Red Sox and Phillies...;)

Think those pinstriped glasses are effecting your vision jt...:D

A Yankee even a Sox fan can't help but like...

...well a little. :D
Congrats to Derek Jeter for his winning the SI Sportsman of the Year Award.

In an era filled with roids, over inflated egos, moronic behavior, immorality, over paid players and more this guy has always managed to be above it all. Jeter embodies class, dignity, discretion in personal matters, team first attitude and the game of baseball. He is a true professional.

LOL,

Oh, so you didn't hear the report of how Jeter's number is on the same list with Tiger with one of the women now in question in the affair with Woods. So if true, what is Jeter who has a long time girlfriend doing on that list.

Classy,

Marco Scutaro signs with Red Sox

After holding auditions all season, Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein thinks he has an everyday shortstop.

The Bosox agreed to a two-year deal, with an option for a third year, with Blue Jays free agent Marco Scutaro, pending him passing a physical today.

Scutaro, 33, hit .282, with 12 homers and 60 RBIs in 144 games for the Jays. He scored 100 runs and had a .379 on-base percentage.

The Red Sox used Julio Lugo, Nick Green, Jed Lowrie and Alex Gonzalez last season. The Jays signed Gonzalez to a one-year deal with an option.

The Jays will receive two additional picks for Scutaro, a Type A free agent, giving them eight in the first three rounds

So basically the Blue Jays grabbed Gonzalez and 2 draft picks from the Red Sox for Scutaro? When the smoke clears is that not basically the result?

You got it. I believe those two picks are high draft picks. First round & second, i believe. The Jays also saved a lot of money. Gonzalez signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Jays, with a $2.5 million team option for 2011.

More on the Scutaro deal:

Scutaro receives a $1 million signing bonus and a $5 million salary in 2010 and 2011, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. The third year carries options of $6 million (team) and $3 million (Scutaro), with a buyout of $1.5 million.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com first reported Scutaro worked out near his Miami home for Red Sox executive Allard Baird. It's believed the workout helped alleviate some concerns the Red Sox had over a plantar fasciitis issue in Scutaro's right heel that kept him out the final two weeks of the 2009 season. Sources involved in the negotiations confirmed comments made by Scutaro that the Red Sox had examined his medical records.

Because of Scutaro's Type A free-agency status, the Red Sox will give up a first-round pick to the Blue Jays. But Boston gets the selection back, thanks to their own Type A free agent, Billy Wagner, signing with the Braves on Wednesday.

True but the Red Sox received 2 draft picks from Atlanta due to their signing of Billy Wagner, so basically it's a wash on the draft picks. Personally, I love Gonazalez for his fielding but his bat's a liability, Scutaro's has a good bat and more than adequate fielding though not as great as Gonzalez, he is however, leaps and bounds ahead of a certain Yankee shortstop in fielding. Lol. :p

I agree with your assessment of both players. One thing that i've been unable to figure out is why the Jays signed Gonzalez when they had already signed defensive whiz John McDonald to a 2 year deal. Both are weak offensively.

No, it's not, but why confuse you with the facts.

First off, the Jays did not get Gonzalez from the Sox. He was a free agent.
Second, the Jays get the Red Sox first pick. The other pick, a supplemental between the first and second rounds, does not take anything from the Sox.
Third, the Sox acquired the Braves first pick when the Braves signed Wagner. And they acquired a supplemental pick as well. Hence, the Sox are in a better drafting position than they were a week ago, having gained a supplemental and having moved up in the first round.

And, K, you are wrong as well. It's not a wash. The Sox are up one supplemental.

Here's Keith Law on the Scutaro signing:

"When the Toronto Blue Jays signed Alex Gonzalez, it seemed a fait accompli that Marco Scutaro would take his place in Boston, although at a significant cost to the Red Sox financially and in the draft, as Scutaro was a Type-A free agent and the Blue Jays now have a claim on the Red Sox's first-round pick. (That could become a second-round pick if the Red Sox sign another Type-A free agent.) Scutaro is a significant upgrade over Gonzalez because at the plate they couldn't be more different; Gonzalez is an unapologetic hacker while Scutaro is a patient hitter who rarely chases anything out of the zone. Even if Scutaro's 2009 was -- as it appears -- a fluke year at the plate, his offensive advantage over Gonzalez well outweighs the small defensive disadvantage, leaving the Sox better off and with a player who, with some regression, will still represent a good value for his salary."

He goes on to mention that the big loser in the deal is Jed Lowrie, who becomes trade bait.

Jury is out on this one with me...time will tell. 33???
Scutaro had a career year last year. Maybe his numbers at Fenway are phenomenal or his spray pattern favors the wall?
Theo is 0 for forever with his picks at SS since he gave up on OC after '04...

Jeter

It's not any secret that Jeter has had numerous relationships with assorted models, actresses and Miss Universes. The New York Post has chronicled his romantic exploits and I recall them publishing pics of Jeter and a bikini clad Jordana Brewster on a beach somewhere. Every time Jeter has a new girlfriend the New York Post has a picture of her to announce her or introduce her to the graces of New York. It has become an annual or monthly tradition.

I would say it probably is possible, if not likely, that Jeter did some or all of the same girls that Tiger did.

A very good friend of mine attended the Major League Baseball Player's Association party a few years ago during the All Star break when the game was in Pittsburgh. This friend happens to be a diehard Red Sox fan and a close relative works for MLB which is why he was invited. In any event he told me the party was at a club in Pittsburgh and as he entered he said a "gauntlet" of the most beautiful women he had ever seen was walking down a staircase in front of him - drop dead Penthouse/Playboy models. Transfixed, he waited to see who or what it was that had drawn the attention of this gaggle of gorgeous babes. As their party descended the staircase, he said that the ladies were all around Jeter, Cano and A-Rod (who was at the time still married). My friend told me without question, Jeter had more attention from more babes than anyone at the party.

Most recently Jeter has been linked to actress Minka Kelly who has been rumored to have become his fiancee.
