I'm with MG_mtl, Cleos is one creepy place. Sure the bouncers and dancers maybe friendly (I don't know was only there once) but the building and location define "dive".

A few others:

St-Thomas (near Joliette)

Cote St Paul - can't remember the name but its down near the canal close to St.Patrick like directly below Aut.20.

Cleo's scary? It's a nice, friendly place. I find the bouncers there friendlier than at the other SCs I have been to.

Chef, from your restaurant and wine reviews (which are excellent by the way) I would have pegged you for more of a Chez Pare/Wandas guy...

Many clubs located in smaller towns might be very scary, such as Motel Valentine or the old Monaco in Magog. Also, I remember of a SC in Princeville where the doorman had to look at you by opening a small window in the front door, then to unlock that door and let you enter in the bar.

Hill Top reminds me of the sleazy joint in that movie from Quentin Tarantino..."From Dusk 'til Dawn"...scary...but I still go once in a blue moon.

3) all those St-Hyacinthe dives already mentioned (Bar Jack was the worst from what I remember)

Been to many, many clubs many, many times. Only seen violence once. That was the bouncer roughly ousting a drunk.

61 in Aylmer. Harleys outside, biker at the door checking you out, big chain blocking the doorway so doorman can also check you out... Stopped there and never went back...

Taboo in Gatineau: Lots of fights. Was in CR once and heard a big crash, to find-out when i got out somebody threw a beer bottle on the mirrors between main room and CR during a fight. Also seen a guy who had his windshield broken because his car was parked where a fight occured.

But you have a point, oh mighty wise one, I do think that Cleo is a dump, but I wouln't actually be scared to go there. You got me on a technicality. My english is not as good as your french .

I'm not sure if this question is regionally limited -- but if not, I went to an SC in the ouskirts of Accapulco several years ago that I would not have entered alone (I was with 2 friends)... Once inside, we could feel all the eyeballs in the room (it was a "room"... very small) heavily weighing on us. The girls, at least 3 out of 4 of them, were very scarry too... They kept inviting us to the "back room" -- We weren't sure if it was FS or if we were going to be robbed and beaten... Made it out after 20 minutes with no issues never to return... Nothing I've ever seen in the US or Canada was as "scarry" as that. However, ironically, I'd bet that Cleo's is technically filthier...

Speaking of Toronto... anyone remembers Fantasia up on Yonge and Major Mac? That was scary... heroin was flowing to the street.

.. this brings back memories! Some really unusual women worked there.

Vaughan and Fantasia

There isn't anything else over at that neck of the woods in Richmond Hill... aparently some by law pretty much shut down eeeeverything. Club Pro in Vaughan (technicaly in Concord) during the day time you may get lucky.

I do remember going to a club in Vaughan years ago, forget its name now.

I had full service twice in a small cabin in the back.

It wasn't quite the same as Fantasia though.

Too bad its gone.

I once went at five in the AM (can't remember on what day of the week) and true to their word it was open and hopping.

One where I would never ever go back even if paid millions to go there ->
it's on Des Laurentides in Laval (can't remember the name since it's so worthless) ...but it's easy to spot: Coming from Mtl using Lajeunesse Street, if you engage in Laval from the little Pont Viau (next to Metro Henri Bourassa) and right after the end of the Pont Viau, on your right, you have a stip club that sits there with a big sign outside...you can't miss it.
Beurk...that place has below average ladies with a death-zone atmosphere.
Never again!

You're thinking of the Showgirl (117 des Laurentides, a stone's throw away from the Hotel Ideal des Laurentides)...

I will agree with LeGuy, the Bar T.D. in the town of Richelieu gave me the creepy Crawlies the one time I went there ( it made Cleo's look like a 5-Star establishment in comparison)
