True or False: Bidding 3 Star via "Name Your Own Price®" Always Get's Hyatt?

Before I get to the question in the headline I must give a quick outline of what I face.

The problem for me is that I am traveling to Montreal with a buddy and he has zero capacity for adventure or risk regardless of the potential reward.

We have been to Montreal 3 times this year and August will be trip #4.

He always does the booking and he is not the type to read MERB. I always suggest Priceline.com and the feature called "Name Your Own Price®". This conversation does not go far. It has no logical basis in his view and he easily defeats any positive aspect of it.

Well now I keep telling him of the great prices that have been won for the Hyatt via "Name Your Own Price®" and he has gone as far as to say ok if I can get the Hyatt for under 100 then do it.

So if I am right it seams that a bid for a 3 star in downtown Montreal for 50, 60, 70, and so on will eventually result in an excepted bid at the Hyatt.

So what are the chances of a successful bit as stated above resulting in a hotel other then Hyatt.

My friend want's the Hyatt but I think he likes the Delta and Novotel (I told him Novotel has a bad reputation on MERB), and I want to pay under 70 or as close to 70 as possible.

I have been at the Hyatt many, many times through PL, but I have also been given the Delta and the Holiday Inn Select in Chinatown. I think the reason the Hyatt is the one you get so many times is that they have so many more rooms. Over 600, I believe. Only way to guarentee the Hyatt is to book directly.

I just got the Sheraton as a 3 star on PL bidding $85, staying last week, and aside from the room providing a great view of downtown Montreal, it was small and not nearly as nice as the Hyatt. The bed and linens do not meet Special K approval or mine. I attempted to upgrade to a bigger room and this request was refused as all the rooms are the same size, or so I was told. There are upgrades available but for bullshit things that I don't need. On the positive side the Sheraton is in a great location.

To answer the questions posed here, the 3 stars on PL bidding you are most like to get are the Hyatt, the Delta (President Kennedy), the Sheraton, the Holiday Inn Select, and the Novotel. The best of these hotels, and I have stayed at all of them, is the Hyatt, by far.

To answer Harmony's question: you can possibly get the Hyatt for $75-$85, or one of the hotels mentioned above, using the bidding method. There is no way you will get the Hyatt for under $100 using the quote or direct booking methods. It ain't happening, dude!

The bottom line is whether you are willing to roll the dice on getting one of the other hotels, or not. What's it gonna be?

That's precisely why I just bit the bullet and took the Hotel de la Montagne for $100 ($120CAD) through Expedia. It probably cost me about $10-$15 a night extra, but to be in the hotel of my choice, I can deal with that.

That's a good price and I probably would have jumped at the HDLM for $100 over the Sheraton at $85, had I known that deal could be had. Thanks for the info.

I booked the la montagne directly several months ago for my august trip at a whopping $225 per night, just checked expedia for the same dates in aug at the la montagne, exact same room $127 per night, i am now a convert.

Daringly, if you called and booked directly with the HDLM then call them back and cancel that reservation. This shouldn't be a problem since you're not checking in until sometime in August. Then log onto Expedia and book the room for the much better $127/night rate.
