What Do You Do to ENDURE Quebec's Winters?

On most streets you see cars completely imbedded in the snow.

It would be nice to have a garage to park and store one's car on days like these.

More and more parking garages are being demolished for new condominiums. Even apartment complexes (or outdoor shopping malls) in the suburbs don't have covered carports -- perhaps these structures will help improve the quality of life. I wonder if the benefits of having covered carports and garages outweigh the costs of digging for hours to extricate one's car from snow and iced road surfaces. Environmentalists will be against building more car ports and garages, arguing that those structures will only encourage more car ownership and driving, adding to air pollution and increasing our carbon footprint. There's no easy solution.

Wow. It will take 6 to 7 days to clear away the snow and ice. Then the cycle starts again when the next snow storm hits. That's life in Quebec and people have endured it for decades and centuries. Luckily, I don't have a car and I can get around on the Metro, buses and Uber.

Look behind you.
I wouldn’t want to be that person digging for an hour or two to get their car out of the snow banks!

Make sure it is your car before you start.

Yes, this winter is worse than others we have had in recent years. The US mid west have had it worse. Chicago had -50f (-43c) this winter and Minnesota has had the most snow in 150 years.

The cold is more tolerable but the huge snowfall is problematic for everyone. My local friends who are long-time residents (born and raised in Quebec) are sick of the snow, saying it's been the worst in their recent memories. Snow removal cost the municipality of Montreal 137 M$ last year and may end up costing 200 M$ this year. Yikes.

The very first time I visited Vegas .
Seems now like such a long time ago in my younger years.
But I remember it clearly and to my astonishment it snowed the second and third day of the week that I was there.
It felt as if the snow had followed me from Montreal. The odds of that happening? Only in Vegas
But yea even deserts can get some snow.

i left to go to Florida 3 weeks ago. when i left it was -15

i'll come back when it's above 0 lol

I was in Miami a few years ago when it was -1c outside and 10c in the hotel room. Non of the hotels have heat no matter how high class it is. All the can do is offer you more blankets.

My buddies in Vegas told me about the recent snowfall there. I told him to shovel snow off his driveway and entryway ASAP so the melting snow does not flood his garage and the interior of his house -- they don't build houses in Vegas for these once in a blue moon extreme weather event.

Cheer up, we have had a cold winter but it is March in a few days and warm weather is just around the corner.

Longer extreme weather is here to stay. In some countries, the summers have gotten hotter, drier and longer. I'll defer to scientists to predict how climate change will impact Eastern Canada, including Quebec and Ontario.

Last spring came late and was short in Montreal.

About 15 years ago we moved from cold snowy winters to shorter warmer winters, maybe we are moving back to colder snowy winters.

The whole continent has experienced weather extremes this winter, it is a matter of how the wind currents flow. A human lifetime is not long enough to know if we are experiencing global warming.

Nope...

According to the US National Climatic Data Center on February 2015 was reached 30 years since a month was below average. A measure that the climate has changed.

When I find myself in Asia during the monsoon season, I embrace the monsoon rains and winds and the oppressive humid heat. When I'm in Montreal during some of its harsh winters (I have experienced many Montreal winters), I embrace the fu@king cold and ice-covered sidewalks. Europe too has been witnessing more extreme summers and winters. Seeing the local beautiful ladies in their birthday suits in my hotel room help make my stay more tolerable. Every country I've been visiting in various continents has been experiencing more extreme weather in recent human memory.

What I've learned is that the sun does rise and stay up sooner or later to brighten our moods. Live for the moment, because tomorrow can be worse.
