Cooking. I have been cooking a lot lately. Trying new dishes. It has become almost therapeutic.

Mostly Caribbean dishes. Both from the English and Spanish speaking islands. It started off watching YouTube videos. The food looks so good I had to try. Today I made a chicken curry dish.
This might make some of the artists upset, but AI. I have some artistic talent/skill and used to do a lot of drawing, graphic design, photography, video, a bit of painting and sculpture. My main artistic endeavor is music though and the visuals were often just something to accompany the music. Creating interesting visuals for a 3 minute song is a lot of work though. AI lets me generate all sorts of imagery that would've taken me days/weeks to create on my own. I'm hoping to start posting some new music videos within the next month.
As a struggling artist myself, I'm my own worst critic. But for me, I'd rather struggle -- AI is cheating, and I'd rather suck than cheat.
I view AI as just another tool/resource that's especially useful for hobbyists like myself. I'm making entire music videos by myself. I'd typically use public domain stock footage or some footage I shot myself, but that was getting repetitious.
I can't say I'm too concerned about "cheating". If Marcel Duchamp can display a toilet he found and be considered an important artist, than I may as well be considered Picasso. It takes more effort and creativity to generate AI images than it does to display a urinal or tape a banana to the wall.
Either way, my art is mostly for myself. Even if I post it on youtube or twitter, it'll likely only ever be seen by a couple hundred people at most. So long as I enjoy the process and the end result, that's really all that matters to me.
Music has been inspiring me a lot lately, I have synesthesia and it brings me to really cool places. Sometimes I forget to listen to new music for a while but lately I've been feeling like making new discoveries
Neat. I've known a couple synesthetes, and of course many artists experience the world that way. What form does your take? (One of my friends had "chromesthesia," the overlapping of sound and color.) Are there certain kinds of music that are especially pleasurable?

I have been on a journey of solitude and healing from past trauma, and I’m grateful that I am actively working each day to become the best version of myself. This process has transformed me into a better person, allowing me not to project my past experiences onto others. Once you embrace solitude, it can become quite addictive.

I'm no different in that way. My art is for me. My subjects are mostly women, so for me, it's that special quality about them, perfection and flaws (mostly me), are what make it unique and special. AI or not, I prefer not to use tools that I don't specifically wield - a camera is most frequently my tool/brush, and I prefer physical media as my canvas, though there is nothing wrong with digital (but there is a lack of perceived permanence). But image-altering digital filtration, heavy post-processing, and AI make me less of an artist and more of a producer. Same goes with video -- I'll shoot the video, sometimes edit (so many great editors out there), select music from library (small fee for some artist far more talented than me). Perhaps your way is harmless based on small viewership, but that is not always the case. Plenty of up and comers are gaining traction as creators using AI, and it won't be long before many of them become monetized. I see the argument that as a hobbyist, its "harmless" the "artist" can save a lot of time and money playing around, monetized or not. But for shits and giggles, let's imagine a future where a hobbyist (merb in this example, lol) has a choice between a flawless, time and money-saving AI sexbot versus a real live SP, real sex appeal, flaws, and all. Same kind of harmless? Perhaps, but I'm choosing the real person every time (ok, ok, I might try a sexbot once lol). IMO, a sexbot could be pretty, but never beautiful. A person can be both. And for me, this is the same for AI.
Several years ago, I was tasked with shooting a couple of girls in Montreal for a friend who ran an agency. Friend or not, i took this very seriously and put my heart into it as professionally as I could. Although he teased me that I should have, I did not sample the merchandise. It wasn't perfect as I lacked all of my equipment, but he was very happy with the results. At the time, he had a stunning new girl who soon went Indy and asked me on a subsequent trip to MTL to photograph her for her site. We had good chemistry, and the "artist" in me was excited and nervous about capturing her in a way that would show her to her prospective clients through my lens, eyes, and heart. At the end of the shoot, one thing lead to another (she started it, I'm a professional
, lol) , and I got to see a side of her I hadn't previously. I don't make assumptions and tried to pay her for the surprise and exceptional "service" (not accurate). She refused my money very stubbornly and simply said, that it was a thank you for your taking my photos. Try that with AI, lol!
I have mixed feelings about AI too. I see a lot of AI generated art on instagram that uses other people's art, and that's something I'm strongly against. I think AI can be used in interesting ways by artists, but if it's stealing people's art, not sure if I'm into it. It's also a bit terrifying that a lot of people can't tell the difference between an AI generated image vs an actual photo. I often have people send me content that's meant to be aesthetically pleasing, like outdoor scenes with snow and gardens etc but I can tell it's made by AI, and I feel like there's something slightly unfortunate about that because the person who sent it thought they were sending me actual nature images.. What I think sucks about AI for a lot of artists is that it's a continuation of how digital art has slowly replaced handmade art. Really often when I get art commissions, people ask me to change things afterwards and they don't understand that I'm actually making it by hand. There's a long history in art of imposing hyper realism as the one valid way to measure an artist's talent. I'm pretty against that for various reasons, and I think AI could really reinforce that expectation.
I'm perfectly fine with considering any AI stuff I do more as producing. Or better yet, curating. For now at least. I'm still learning the ins and outs of AI. It is possible to do AI without referencing other people's artwork, but that requires feeding your own images into the machine. When I figure that stuff out I might try training the AI software on my own drawings and photos. It's still not the same as drawing something new by hand, but it's closer.
AI is already being heavily monetized, though it's mostly in the porn/scam arena ATM. Go scroll twitter and you'll see as many AI generated women as you do real women (though maybe that's just my algorithm). Some of them even have Onlyfans profiles. The entertainment industry as a whole is already moving that way as well. I believe there's currently a voice actors strike going on because they've seen what the future holds for their profession. Main purpose of the strike is to make sure they get fairly compensated when the studios eventually just start using AI recreations of their voice.
I would have to try out the sexbot before passing judgement, but you're probably right.
I do wonder though if this is just another evolution of art. I'm sure painters were saying many of the same things about photography that we're saying about AI. Even the move from film to digital has met some resistance. I know that I was very anti-digital photography when it started pushing film out of the marketplace. Now I have a fancy digital camera and my film camera is nothing more than a paperweight. I hope AI wont have as great an impact on art in general, but it's definitely going to change things.
I don't know if we can compare AI to photography or film although I know what you mean. I do think there's a way to use AI in an intelligent and creative way, but I don't see a lot of people do it. I have a friend who made AI generated images and turned them into paintings tho and it's pretty cool.
I do the reverse sometimes. I'll take one of my old drawings and do an image-to-image generation. Basically just give the software the image and tell it "I'd like this but with some modifications and animated."
This is pretty cool. What I find really funny about this is how the AI version of it is completely disconnected from who and what the drawing is supposed to represent
