Edge of Tomorrow (2024)

Based on the reviews here, I watched Edge of Tomorrow on Netflix last night. Let me say I really liked the movie, a lot. However, I am not sure if I saw the movie the same way as everyone here did. Much to my surprise, nobody mentioned this is not exactly the first movie in which the main character is forced to relive the same day again and again. We also saw the same thing happen to Bill Murray's character in Groundhog Day, although that movie was a comedy, and the reliving of each day was used for comic purposes. The way that Tom Cruise's character was forced to relive the same day, in Edge of Tomorrow was a lot more interesting and thought provoking. In the final analysis, to me, the movie explored the way life experience changes the way we handle and react to the same situations. All of us have had a life experience where we wish we could go back in time and do something differently so that there would have been a different outcome. The Cruise character, in the movie, actually gets to do just that over and over again, and there is always something that he finds can be corrected and improved on with the experience he gains in each reliving of the day. I loved the ending.

I read that Cruise and his production company have bought the rights to the sequel and it's in the works. Honestly, 10 years have gone by and both Cruise and Blunt are too old for the respective parts in the film. Hopefully Cruise can put aside his enormous ego and search for a younger, more dynamic, fitter actor and actress to play those characters.

Land of Bad (2024)
Action movie starring Russel Crowe, Liam Hemsworth & Vilo Ventimiglia. It’s about a US Special Ops team on an extraction mission deep in a Phillippines jungle & things start going wrong & they must rely on a drone operator (Crowe) located in Nevada to help rescue them. The movie is under two hours in lenght & i enjoyed it very much. It reminded me of those great war/rescue movies that i used to enjoy watching in the 80’s. I watched it on Netflix. I recommend it & rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Casino Royale is my all-time favorite Bond movie and i’ve seen it half a dozen times. It’s also on my list of all-time favorite movies. I was never a big Bond movie fan until i saw this movie at the Scotiabank movie theatre in Mtl when it came out & found it to be such a perfect Bond movie. I enjoyed it so much that a week later i was visiting Toronto & wentnto see it again! I even encouraged people who disliked Bond movies to go see it & promised them they’d love it because it wasn’t the typical Bond movie. They listened to me & praised it afterwards. What i found fascinating about the Daniel Craig Bond movie versions is that the movies which followed Casino Royale (Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spector, No Time to Die) are literally all sequels to Casino Royale & it’s crucial for people to first watch it in order to appreciate the movies that came after it.

And of course like the majority of all sequels they never match the greatness of the first movie. Name me a movie sequel of a franchise that is better than the first movie? Extremely rare. A few may be close or as good as the first movie (Godfather II is the only one that comes to mind) but it rarely happens. As for being actually better than their predecessor? I can only think of A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More & The Good, the Bad & the Ugly…the Man with No Name trilogy which turned Clint Eastwood into a major box office star. These are the only movies wherebthe sequel is superior to the first one & the third movie is even better than the first two.

The Exorcism (2024)

New horror movie starring Russell Crowe as an alcoholic movie actor playing an exorcist in a movie similar to The Exorcist movie who gets possessed by the devil while filming the movie. I hated it. I found it boring. Too many cliches found in bad horror movies. I don’t know other than money reasons why Crowe chose to make this movie. Halfway into it I couldn’t wait for it to end.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

After this movie mercifully ended i decided to watch an old favorite of zombie movie fans called Shaun of the Dead and absolutely loved it! It’s listed as an horror/comedy and i found it brilliant! It stars a younger Simon Pegg whom many will recognize as the actor portraying Benji in the Mission Impossible movies and it’s basically a spoof of the many zombie movies that have been made in the past. It’s a really funny & entertaining movie with some drama and a movie that i probably will want to watch again in the future l

Gritty, raw and viscerally strong. The ending sets the tone of what comes after and drives him.

I think my favorites are Dr. No and Goldfinger, but Casino Royale is definitely top 5 Bond film and without question the best of the Daniel Craig films. I thought Craig overstayed his welcome in the role and became long in the tooth playing that part.

Every human being should watch this movie. The power of humility, justice, resilience, perseverance, and above all, love and honour.

Gandhi wasn't a poet as some might think. He was a simple man (a lawyer by training) that lead his country towards independence through acts of defiance and non-violent means to liberate India from British rule at the height of the Empires reign. His non-violent actions and teachings inspired many others that followed, including MLKjr. Helped me understand myself and others in a very basic and spiritual way. Worthy of the 3hrs run-time.
