Machete Kills
I liked this movie, actually better than Machete, although both the movie critics and my friend who I saw it with disagree, and think Machete was better. However, Machete Kills was 4th at the US box office last weekend, and considering its low budget, it should not be hard for it to replicate the commercial success of the stylish Machete.
Machete Kills is best described as a tongue-in-cheek, camp action-exploitation flick heavily influenced by the exploitation films of the 1970s. Robert Rodriguez's films are interesting visually and his violence is highly creative, but he is sort of a poor man's Quentin Tarantino when it comes to screenwriting. There are some good one liners, but the script does not have sustained consistent excellent writing as in Quentin Tarantino's films, which is why there are nonstop Academy Award nominations and wins for actors in Tarantino's films.
That being said, Rodriguez attracted significant actors and celebrities to this movie, which was shot in 29 days on a paltry $20 million budget: Charlie Sheen aka Carlos Estevez is cast as the "no bullshit" President of the United States Rathcock, who is portrayed as a womanizing schmoozer; Mel Gibson plays Luther Voz, one of several smarmy villains; Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas and Cuba Gooding Jr. all appear as different faces of a gender-neutral bounty hunter called "El Cameleon"; and Michelle Rodriqguez reprises her role as the feisty Luz, an illegal alien trafficker.
Like Machete, Machete Kills has a plot which explores issues with the drug trade and illegal alien trade at the US-Mexican border, and the politics of both countries in dealing with these issues is mocked in both films. Both films also include an undercurrent of hispanic pride, which is not surprising since many of the actors as well as the director are hispanic. This is also why Charlie Sheen chose to use his real name of Carlos Estevez in making this film.
One of the highlights of the film is a sexy catfight between Amber Heard, who plays "Miss San Antonio", who in reality is a secret double agent, and Michelle Rodriguez as Luz. Both actresses look hot in this movie. Michelle Rodriguez has tremendous tits, although you mostly only see the ample cleavage of those tits.
Sofia Vergara has an interesting role as Madame Desdomona, a vengeance seeking pimpette whose weapons include a tittie machine gun that fires bullets out of armored breasts. Only in a Rodriguez film could such creative violence - bullets fired from armored breasts - be possible.
My friend's objections mainly had to do with the plot being much more far-fetched than in its predecessor Machete, and that criticism is fair, yet I felt that the sequel flowed a bit better. The ending was disappointing as it merely served to set up another sequel.
If you like Tarantino or Rodriguez, see the movie, but even if you don't like it as much as their other works, there are plenty of hot babes in this movie.
