See if Tony the Tailor is still around.
Also see if Harry Rosen is still around.
My beautiful blond and hot ex-gf worked there.
She left a well paying job to go work in a high end men`s store and told me that its the best way to meet handsome and rich men.

I would suggest Arthurs on Crescent street. Nothing beats a bespoke suit, but you need to be patient because you will have to go through tons of customization options and decision on the exact look and fit you want. You will also have to go in for 2 fittings before you get the actual suit.

Also fair warning, getting bespoke suits and shirts can get addictive!

I have a couple of suits from sartorialto. They're alright, I think a few candian players make their suits there.

I bought a pair of Lemaire Trousers in Paris and wanted the same model in a different color. I went to Gerard Mayeu to replicate them, the work was impeccable. Make sure to choose the high end fabrics as he has some cheap ones.

Look behind you.
Never owned a suit in my life ( not a formal suit type of guy ) but will need one in the near future, not sure if I need to get one off the rack or tailored.
Is there that much of a difference between the two?

10+ years ago I went to a couple of stores including harry rosen and the guy was pushing for me to buy a Hugo Boss suit, it didn't feel right. I ended up buying a suit at The Bay. The fit was perfect but not the material. I now use that jacket as a blue print for all my bespoke suits. There is a huge difference between a 300$ suit and a 2000$ suit. If you're either very short or very tall I would suggest to go bespoke otherwise try to find something off the rack just to get a hold of the style you like. Avoid super slim suits (like saint-laurent), it looks ridiculous and avoid exaggerated details that you will eventually get sick of.
There are a couple of stores worth going

Tony the Taylor is long gone.

Arthur's is bespoke. However, you will not get a suit under 3000$. A bit steep.

Cloakroom does semi-bespoke. I liked the fit. Pricing depends on the material you want. More affordable than Arthur's, but not made locally.

G. Tonino makes a decent suit. Again, pricing depends on the quality of the material you want. They make everything on site, plus the owner's daughter who manages the store is smoking hot.

If you are not in a hurry, Suit Supply is opening soon in Montreal. Their pricing point is unbeatable, and so is the quality of the material.

Just look for brands like Boss, Varvatos, Ted Baker slim fit. You can't go wrong those brands are pretty much everywhere.

I go off the rack from The Bay typically. Huge variety there. I use them on a regular basis for work, so I do not buy the super expensive stuff, unless there is a special event like close family wedding for instance. I had some descent ones at Moores as well as Harry Rosen per Cloudsurf above.

With age, I tend to expand and contract quite often, so I decided not to buy expensive stuff anymore, unless special events. I can't fit in slim fit anymore thanks to beer, wine, cheese, pizza and Moes No. 3 special .... .

I in fact recently purchased a Ralph Lauren "suit separates" which have now become fashionable, just the jacket and pants but not the vest. All my suits are heavily tailored. I am a 42 Regular in jackets. Despite being short, it's all I can fit into due to broad shoulders and large upper body. So I have to wear Jackets designed for much taller men and they are all heavily tailored.

My taste in fashion is a bit different. I prefer alternative fashion. That blue Ralph Lauren suit separate is quite shiny. I would never wear it to Court but I would wear it to an escort industry party. I bought that particular suit at a store specialized in urban fashion. I was the only white guy in the store at the time.

I also purchased a banana yellow sports jacket recently at Macy's. You will all have to wait until next spring to see me in that one. I am a guy who wears yellows well. Not everyone can pull it off but I can.

I do like being able to float back and forth from the ultra conservative wardrobe I wear in my profession and the alternative fashion I prefer to wear to non- business parties and dinner engagements.

If you happen to be travelling to Honk Kong then you can get yourself 2 or 3 bespoke suits at the price of one back home.
They will arrange to mail it to you a couple of weeks after you order them.
Anyway I`ve got 6 suits in my closet and haven`t worn one in over 2 years.

Even on my business trips I usualy never wear full suits (in the internet business, not needed). But maybe 15-20 days per year I need to. Since I am not that tall, I now always go tailored, so much better. I have a few rules to the saleseman, the suit has to look good with no tie and with tuck or untuck shirt. This way your business suit becomes great in less casual occasion. The ladies love it! ;)

Glad that I saw this thread, because I am also looking for a new suit. I will check out the Bay and Moores. Keep the comments coming. I think I could buy off the rack . Never been to Moores, hope their suit aren't all like the ones that Don Cherry wears. Lol! A little bit to colourful for my taste.

If any of you guys see double breasted suits let me know. I really like them and at one time they were all I wore to court, but seems like they have gone out of fashion in favor of some of the stuff previously mentioned. I also have a black double breasted overcoat which unfortunately tore at the inseam in the back and my tailor told me it's not repairable. So if you guys in your fashion travels see these styles please make note of the manufacturer and post so I can go to their website or outlet.

Regarding Don Cherry my personal out of work suits are somewhere between Mainstream and Don Cherry fashion. He seems to favor reds whereas I favor bright and shiny blues and yellows.

If you go off the shelve, I recently bought 2 vest (not the full suit) at boutique Jonathan. They are a perfect mix of a touch off class and casual. I wear them to take the plane, go to meetings and to the bars afterward ;) They offer free adjustment, wich is a must.

Cheers,
