In the first week after the mayor was elected, he promised that he would close or regulate a of of massage salons. So far nothing yet. Is there heavy regulation around the corner?

I read the word eradicate in a few newspapers, but I doubt he ever used the word. The answer is clear and simple: no he will not. There are probably more then 150 parlors in the city of Montreal. He made a declaration but he was certainly informed by the SPVM that trying to close them would be inviting the criminal gangs to jump in that market. Closing MPs would divert legit money to criminal elements.

There is not much the City can do at the moment. Licenses are a borough's jurisdiction. It's would be very difficult to have each and every one of them on board in a unified policy.

AFAIK, he was set on shutting down the massage parlours during the election campaign. But that's before consulting with police and Mme Samson AFTER the elections. The latter was also on a campaign to eradicate parlours, but took the time to review obectively the situation and talk to all those involved. She concluded that it was not so simple a solution as to just shut them down, without severe social and criminal repercussions... as police know from experience. Police know that it costs money to create, investigate and prosecute new criminals who weren't before, and that diverts resources that go to protect the population against the real harms of real criminals.

Plus they have to think about consequences. If they close MP and incalls, it's going to increase street prostitution and nobody wants that.

Politicians and promises...

Politicians, besides being lying scum, just try to find waves to ride.

Prostitution isn't a big deal like it once was and it's not going to make him poll much higher. If he wants to poll better he needs some Muslim drama. That will get him numbers.

This mayor is a show boater, he will try to show the voters that he is doing something. So eventually he will regulate the massage parlors. Probably make them pay huge permit fees and then have the girls registered like in Toronto.

Bodyrub studios in North York, Brampton and Mississauga pay $ 10,000 for a business license, all girls are individually licensed and have to get background checks, I actually like the fact that the girls have to be licensed and record free, why the hell should I spend money to be with a girl that could have a criminal record and risk being robbed inside the room? Who needs that shit? There's too much shit in Montreal, I agree with the Mayor that the bad operations, the ones where the girls do Sex in the rooms, should be shut down. Spa Du Parc on Parc Ave, originally Alexcellence, was shut down by the cops a couple of months ago, they caught the girls having sex, need more info talk to the asian guy at the strip bar next door, he seems to know all the scoop

This is really the cruz of the matter.I think we're in a situation where doing nothing is the best solution.

The therapeutic massage industry is crying for nothing. It's very hard to tell how much business they are losing i.e. how many clients they lose to the erotic massage parlors. I'd say come on. Few can compete. Guys don't go to EMP to get therapeutic massage. The substitution good would be more escorts.

The EMP cause virtually no harm to the neighborhoods. The SPVM simply does not get citizens' complaints about them.

There is no permit implementation costs that justify any special high permit cost. Of course the cities can try to profit by dictating what the market should be. Toronto did that. It's discriminatory. Fees are ten time higher then a regular permit for comparable services. It's also unproductive because the less permit you emit the more you'll see parlors pop up under all sorts of other permits (unless I stand corrected on this, I think most EMP in Toronto do not have a body rub license)

A register of sex workers should also be a no no. Some will never accept to have their name is such a register. They very legitimately think that this could affect them later in their life. However reassuring were you towards them, many will never accept it. Consequence for them: go work elsewhere. And no elsewhere, except strip bars, offer the level of security of EMP.

What's the main reason justifying a register? Age control. And that is absurdly stupid. There is NO problem with minors in EMP. Owners are not idiots. And they got money involved in the business.

The solution is not in regulation. Montréal has none and it's not doing worst then cities with regulation. The solution is LE working intelligently. And it seem to me that working intelligently is not working against EMP but with them.

I predict that this to become the "do nothing" solution in Montreal. The best solution.

I think their beef is not about losing business, but that it's giving a ''bad image'' to the profession. Or that sometimes client may go to a therapeutic place and then expect to get some extra. Even that I think must not be very often.
