Long story short: Of the Original Six teams, five are worthy of respect. ONLY the truly wretched, gutless, inept toronto maple leafs are worth nothing but complete contempt.
From 2005/06 to 2013/14 (inclusive, 9 seasons) here are the number times each original six team has qualified for the post season as well as the number of playoff rounds won.
Boston: 7 and 10
Chicago: 7 and 12
Detroit: 9 and 12
Montreal 7 and 5
New York: 8 and 8
Toronto: 1 and ZERO
"It's almost redundant to say a player who spent most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs never got close to the Stanley Cup.
"WORST franchise in all of professional sports "....... Joelcairo, you could't have said it any better. At one time, self pro-claimed hockey guru, Doc H, said that Josh Gorges should be made captain of the Montreal Canadiens. Well he refused a trade to the leafs. There was a deal made and Gorges nixed it. Now I am thinking, what were the leafs willing to give the Montreal Canadiens for Josh Gorges ? Dion Phaneuf.....NO..... Nobody wants him. They are stuck with him for another 5,6,7 years. They deserve each other. I could go down the list and I can't find anyone that the Habs would want, except.......first round pick. As dumb as this sounds, I would not put it passed them.Tuukka Rask Wins Vezina
Congratulations to Tuukka....and Boston thanks Toronto once again!
But hey - at least Toronto got Andrew Raycroft (ha ha ha ha ha) for Tuukka.
Question: How did THAT one work out? Answer: Boston has a Vezina Trophy winner ...and Toronto has SQUAT...as usual for the absolute WORST franchise in all of professional sports.

Who can blame Gorges?
Shame on Bergevin for trying to send him over to that joke of an organisation.Gorges deserves better.
I agree with Cosmo.
Not exactly this situation, but when a company wants to get rid of an employee on a personal service contract, if not forbidden by the contract, they would assign him to a humiliating task, such as cleaning toilets, hoping he would negotiate a small settlement to quit. Joining the Leafs (even with an extra month of vacation each year), however - decency demands a limit to what one can inflict on a faithful employee.

Another Nail in the Coffin
Someone should call the police to report a robbery. Victim: toronto maple leafs. Thief: Carolina Hurricanes.
The leafs traded John-Michael Liles for Tim Gleason. Liles is BETTER than Gleason and the cap hit for Liles ($3.875 million) is LESS than the cap hit for Gleason ($4 million), but that wasn't enough for those thieving Canes. They ALSO got valued prospect Dennis Robertson. Pure, outright THEFT by the Canes against the leafs.
Mind you, since Carlyle was wasting Liles just like he wasted Grabo (and how did THAT one work out, leaf fans?), what's the difference?
For example, during the off season, (which is longer for Leaf fans than for the supporters of the other 31 hockey teams), do Leaf fans frequent dominatrices to get whipped? Do they roll in poison ivy? Do they cheer for the Cubs?
While the article answered a question which has always befuddled me i.e. why do Leaf fans exist, it raised many more. Do they roll in poison ivy? Do they cheer for the Cubs?
