Yup, last night was a great test for the young Leafs because they played a team giving it their all and the young buds held their own quite well. Go Flyers! Go Bruins! :D
That's why Sparks will be between the pipes for Toronto. Last night, Toronto wanted to play the part of spoilers and not be accused of deliberately tanking, so they played Bernier.

Thinking Detroit will be in this year again, can not stop after 25 years in the playoffs.

If you look at the past three times they mad ethe playoffs, they barely squeaked by. Twice they made them on the last day of the regular season and the other time only a day ahead. They were lucky, some observers may say.

Rumors of PK Subban getting traded this off-season are running rampant around Mtl. The french side of the media wants him out, the english side wants him to stay. One of the most prominent rumors has him going to Edmonton in a package.

This will be the last time the habs can trade him. I've heard that the majority of players are fed up with his antics and want him out. Coach Michel Therrien is no fan of his and wouldn't lose any sleep if he's gone for good. 'Robinson Crusoe' Bergevin likes him, but has always felt he's overpaid by at least $2 million/year, so if the owner agrees to give him 'carte blanche', Subban will be gone by next season, i have no doubt. Don't be too surprised if he gets dealt away by late June. Mr. Subban, whose idols are Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, will have to realize that he's not bigger than the game.

The remaining Playoff Spots are like Trigonometry (confusing)....sin(Bruins°) = Opposite (Red Wings) / Hypotenuse (Flyers) = PLAYOFFS for the B's (what?)

So, the Bruins miss Playoffs, or get bounced in the 1st Round?

Look behind you.
My predictions for todays games ( just a few ). Detroit over Rangers, Pittsburgh over Philly, Boston over Ottawa, Philly still has a game left so....
For the covented last place..... Both the Leafs and the Oilers will win so the Leafs take it.
When I die I want the Oilers to be my pall bearers, just so they can let me down one last time.

I don't think the Leafs will win today since Garett Sparks is starting.

I was checking the overall standings earlier and was shocked to see that Pittsburgh is now fourth overall. How the hell did this happen? Now it means that the Leafs other first-round pick sucks donkey balls and is in reality a second-round pick!

Pavel Datsuyuk: the end of an era

This morning Pavel Datsyuk officially made the announcement that this season was his final one in the NHL. He'll be moving back to Russia and will likely sign with a KHL team.

The Red Wings will be on the hook for his final contract year cap-wise, but it's entirely possible they'll trade away that final contract year.

A very good friend of mine is a Leafs fan and last year he constantly bitched about Buffalo trading their players and tanking on purpose to get the number one draft pick, this year he claims it was a building strategy for the Leafs  .

Isn't that how a rebuild works? Oh sorry Sol my friend, i forgot you root for Edmonton but that is how it is SUPPOSED to work ;)

I would like to see the "Oil" become a consistent playoff team but until they figure things out and realise "all those young players" are NOT the second coming of the Great One, then things will stay the same. Package Eberle,Yakupov and Ted Nugent-Hopkins for a top pick (not likely) and take a defensman ranked high in the draft or trade them for a good dman (more likely) and that is a start. Not sure Talbot is the answer long term in goal either, he was never more than a backup in NY. Now the "Oil" are pushing the Captaincy on 19 year old McDavid, WHY????? Thats the problem with the Oilers previous management and possibly the new as well, they ask more of their players (aka push) than their players are capable of giving and it ruins them and or sets back their developement by years.

First, the Leaf comment was more of a kick against my friend for trashing Buffalo, I realize a rebuild should be from the ground up.
Also, many other teams played their first round picks right away, not just Edmonton that did that, also Crosby was a captain at 19 or 20 I think and some other team had a first rounder as captain after the first year. There will be a few drastic changes in Edmonton this off season, Edminton will bulk up and hopefully get a decent pair of defenseman.

I don't mind teams playing their first round pick if the only option they have is to send them back to juniors where they've already proven they're way ahead of the competition. For example, Mitch Marner will start the season with the Leafs next season since he's too young to play for the Marlies (he'd need to be at least 20) and he's already conquered the OHL and sending him back for another season would only slow down his progress.

First year picks rarely make the big team. But it happens and they usually already have the skill set and maturity to compete and stay with the big team. Usually, those players are among the first 5 players picked. This season, Noah Hannifin spent the entire year with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was among the top 3 players chosen. Marner could have started the season with the Leafs, but Toronto announced to the world that they were going to be on a full rebuild from the start of the season for the next few years to come. No use wasting Marner when he can spend the time improving on his already considerable skills and getting stronger with one more of junior under the Hunter brothers. What i'm guess will happen this coming season is that he'll start the season with the big team and wind up spending a lot of time in the press box. They'll then be able to manipulate the rules by sending him to the Marlies on a conditioning stint, and once that stint will be done, they'll loan him to the Canadian junior team for the world juniors. And once the juniors are done, he'll be sent back to the Leafs to complete the rest of the season.

At this year's draft, the top three picks are expected to make the big team. I'm actually 100% certain of this. They are ready to step into the NHL. The fourth and fifth picks (whomever they are) could surprise a few people and make the big team, but i'd personally be surprised.

Another reason why it's not a bad idea to send back a pick to his junior team is that the team maintains at least a year of control over the player's future contractual situation. That's why i've always believed that Galchenyuk should have been sent back to the Sarnia Sting after he got drafted. He could have developed more and be more ready to play in the NHL, and the habs would have got him for cheaper longer. Watch out when he signs his next contract!! (which is partly why i believe PK Subban will be traded prior to July 1st.....the habs will need money when they have to re-sign Price, Pacioretty and Galchenyuk in the not-to-distant future).

You are spot on about Mitch Marner next season, Mister Holliday :thumb: I read the exact same thing you pointed out a few weeks ago.

As far as Subban, Mtl should trade him to Edmonton for Ted Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov straight up, it would be filling needs of both teams. Perhaps Edmonton would want Zachary Fucale as well. Not sure Subban is worth "all" that plus his fat overpaid contract but hey, ya never know!

Personally not a Subban fan, send him somewhere else, better value for your money out there.

If i'm the habs GM, i will never make this trade. RNH is too fragile. Yakupov is a tremendous bust. Sure, he could get back his game in a different environment, but there are no guarantees to this and the odds are against this happening.

But Edmonton has other assets that Montreal may want. That first-round pick would be very attractive depending in which position Edmonton will draft. Would i trade Subban for that pick? There is a possibility. Or how about Taylor Hall for Subban straight up? I could be tempted into making that trade. Or how about Subban for Jordan Eberle and another player or two?

Here's where i may want to throw a bone to Peter Chiarelli: "Hey Peter, I'll send you PK Subban and my first-round pick for Connor McDavid." Chiarelli will likely say 'no way!!', and here's where it gets interesting: "Peter, let me add Carey Price to the offer if you add Cam Talbot." If i'm Peter Chiarelli, i'm not sure i'm saying no to that offer.

My gut-feeling is that if Subban is traded, it will be to a team like the Anaheim Ducks. Bergevin has already had a good relationship with his former teammate Bob Murray, Anaheim's GM. Another possibility would be Colorado. They have tons of young talent that the habs may take back for Subban. And should.
