Surprise team so far-Dallas
Disappointment-Columbus

I agree with Dallas as the surprise team so far. But for the biggest disappointment, it has to be by far the Anaheim Ducks. Many had even picked them as early favorites to win the cup. What a tremendous disappointment they've been for Ducks fans!

In the runner-up position, i'd chose the Brooklyn Islanders as the surprise team, and the Pittsburgh Penguins as the most disappointing. Grrrrr....

Dickie Moore R.I.P.

He was a hall-of-famer and a good guy who starred with the Habs and also played for the Leafs. He became a self-made millionaire once he retired from hockey. He passed away earlier today at the age of 84.

Look behind you.
My Oilers are getting pounded on the road, entering the game with assholes and leaving with manholes.... damn.

Great article about how teams will finish the season

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/how-numbers-predict-the-nhl-season-will-finish/

In the Atlantic Division, Toronto represents the other end of the regression spectrum, projected to tie with Washington for the best point total over their final 54 games in the Eastern Conference.

When we factor in the fact that the Leafs have faced the toughest schedule of any NHL team to date and that things are going to get easier in the back half of the year, this makes some more sense.

Despite these realities, Toronto is still probably going to miss the playoffs thanks to their rough stretch of play to open the season that saw them win just one out of their first 10 games.

My Rangers took another beating tonight

Even though it was against the Capitals, we better start playing defense

Say what you want about Bettman, but there is very good parody in the NHL. Now if the JERK would only allow hockey back in Quebec City! You have nooooooooo idea how bad i want to plan a trip to see the Leafs in wondeful, awesome, great, fantastic Quebec, Quebec!

I think i will take a drive up there this winter just because it is a almost perfect place in this world, especially in the cold snowy winter, there is always some gorgeous sp's and Ashton's Poutine to warm a person up (in that order) :thumb:

What the hell is wrong with them?

If you watched the Rangers 5-2 loss to Winnipeg Friday night, Lundqvist looked like a statue in goal. At the time, I thought he had to take a wicked shit and since there is no bathroom break in hockey like there is in tennis, it was the good ole butt cheek squeeze. However last night he was relieved of his goaltending duties after 4 2nd period goals. He have just have a really bad diarhhea he can't shake, or else he is playing hurt.

I think you meant 'parity', not 'parody'. ;)

I agree i'd love to see a team in QC, but it's not the right time right now considering how low the Canadian dollar has sunk to. Plus the fact the west has two less teams than the east. The only way it'll happen is if one of the current eastern franchises decides to move due to poor attendance and revenue. Possibly Florida or Carolina.

Eric Lindros should be in the Hall of Fame: Don Cherry

[video]http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/coachs-corner-eric-lindros-should-be-in-the-hall-of-fame/[/video]

Don Cherry has a message for the Hockey Hall of Fame:

Induct Eric Lindros, already.

In Saturday’s edition of Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada, Cherry listed the the reasons why he thinks the retired NHLer needs to be in the Hall of Fame, and why it’s a huge oversight.

“When he was a junior player, he played for Oshawa, he won the Memorial Cup; he was player of the year in junior; at 18 years old he played in the Canada Cup and when they won, he was a force; 760 [NHL] games, 875 points; 53 playoff games, he got 57 points; Legion of Doom, [Mikael] Renberg and [John] LeClair, a highest-scoring line maybe of all time; most dominant player for five years; seven times an All-Star; NHL MVP, the Hart Trophy; top scorer in the NHL, the Art Ross; two [World Junior Championships] golds; captain of the Olympics; and when he retired, he gave $5 million to the hospital,” said Cherry. “And he isn’t in the Hall of Fame.

“What are they smoking at that Hall of Fame?”

Cherry brought up the topic ahead of the Rogers Hometown Hockey stop in Oshawa on Sunday, where Lindros played junior hockey with the Generals.

Earlier in the segment, Cherry also praised Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s efforts this season as he leads his team in goals, shorthanded goals and game-winners.

“He is one of the most valuable players right now, as far as I’m concerned,” said Cherry. “It’s tough playing the way he plays … everybody’s after him when he’s out there, but that’s the way he’s gotta play.”

One thing of note that surprised me when i heard this yesterday......

The habs and the penguins are the only NHL teams without a worthy prospect playing in this year's World Junior Championships.

Sam Gagner put on waivers

The Philadelphia Flyers placed forward Sam Gagner on waivers Tuesday.

The Flyers acquired Gagner in an off-season trade with the Arizona Coyotes that saw defenceman Nicklas Grossmann and the remainder of Hall of Famer Chris Pronger’ contract. The Coyotes also received a conditional draft pick.

Gagner was selected in the first-round, sixth overall, by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Draft.

The 26-year-old has scored two goals and totaled five points in 18 games with the Flyers this season. He missed a chunk of time after suffering a concussion in a game versus the Carolina Hurricanes on November 23.

Teams have until noon ET Wednesday to claim Gagner. He will be cleared to be sent to the Flyers' AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms if he goes unclaimed.

36-year-old centre Scott Gomez was also placed on waivers by the St. Louis Blues Tuesday. Gomez has one goal and eight points in 21 games this season.

I keep hearing that Edmonton is waiting for Connor McDavid to come back before they make a trade. If they go on a roll, they won't be that far from realistically making the playoffs. The team i keep hearing that may make a trade with them is Nashville, who is solid at defence and could move one of their top 5 defencemen for some offensive help.

Montreal is also likely to make a trade soon, especially if they lose again tomorrow. Blame coach Michel Therrien all you want, but Marc Bergevin hasn't exactly been very helpful to him. Many of his moves haven't panned out and others have been minor. It's the same problems every year and they fail to be addressed. And i have a question: "Has PK Subban become a distraction around the team?"

It's no secret that he's not exactly the most-liked player on the team and his list of detractors keeps growing. His constant need to be in front of the cameras has endeared him to the local public, but hasn't exactly made him popular around his teammates. Camera/publicity hogs rarely are, actually. And since he doesn't bring anything to the team other than giveaways and stupid penalities, don't be too surprised if you start hearing his name mentionned in trade talks. A famous Mtl hockey scribe mentionned yesterday on a popular radio sports show that Subban had become uncontrollable on the team and that there was only one person who was able to reason with him: Carey Price. But Carey Price still isn't back with the team. Subban was also described as possibly one of the most selfish hockey players in the league (on-ice).

Fans elect division captains for 2016 All-Star Game

Enforcer John Scott named one of the captains

NEW YORK – Forwards Jaromir Jagr of the Florida Panthers, Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and John Scott of the Arizona Coyotes are the first four players to earn spots in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Nashville, courtesy of fan balloting in the 2016 NHL All-Star Fan Vote.

From Dec. 1 through Jan. 1, fans around the world were able to cast their votes at NHL.com/Vote and via a mobile ballot for one player from each of the four divisions, with the top vote-getter for each division earning an All-Star berth as division captain. Jagr finished first among all players in the Atlantic Division, while Kane topped the Central, Ovechkin led the Metropolitan and Scott paced the Pacific.

Fans were permitted to select as few as one player and a maximum of four players per ballot, without regard to position. The maximum number of ballots cast per day for each user was 10.

As part of the new format for the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game, the All-Stars will take part in a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format, and featuring four teams representing each NHL division.

The remaining 40 players who will comprise the four All-Star rosters – consisting of six forwards, three defensemen and two goaltenders per team – will be determined by the National Hockey League Hockey Operations Department and announced on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

The head coach of the team with the highest points percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) in each of the four divisions through games of Saturday, Jan. 9 – the halfway point of the regular season – will guide the respective All-Star rosters.

All-star forward John Scott has had an exceptional career and the accolades he's receiving are well deserved and long overdue. Here are some highlights of some of his goals. All five of them. Enjoy the magic and appreciate the skill level:
