PK Subban speech before the Winter Classic (funny):
I watched the final episode last night. The PK Subban Show, as i call it. And he made his family proud by dressing up like pimp on the day of the game. His parents must have been very proud of him! lol
The kid loves the camera, there's no doubt. Many are saying that he's got no business going to the all-star game, but i disagree. The all-star game is made for extroverts like Subban, more so today in an age where there are cameras nearly everywhere. Every team is forced to send at least one player to the game, so that's why Subban is going. Who else could they have sent? Carey Price may be out for the year, and the only players who've been playing well are the no-names they recently called up from the minors.
But unfortunately for Subban, it's no big secret that a quarter of the players on his team can't stand him (Plekanec, Markov, etc) and that the fact he constantly craves the camera and off-ice engagements may have greatly negatively affected his play this season.
He's got only one goal this season (one goal!!!), and it was a controversial goal where many claim the puck never even went in. It was in an October game against Toronto and they had to go to video review to reverse the goal. The replays were inconclusive, so the initial call was allowed to stand. This is troubling to Habs management since Subban gets tons of ice time....he played around 27 minutes in his last game. And he will play for the entire two minutes of a powerplay when his team goes on the powerplay. The Habs are likely wondering: "Why are we going to pay this guy $11 million in the next two seasons?? What does he bring to this team when he doesn't score?? Are we paying him to be the king of giveaways? Are we paying him to take all those stupid penalties?? Are we paying him to irritate the hell out of nearly half of our own team?? Why??
I could easily name you ten defencemen i'd take on my team before Subban. Heck, i could name you twenty. And yet, Geoff Molson overuled his general manager a year-and-a-half ago and ordered him to give in to Subban and Don Meehan's demands or else risk getting fired. Marc Bergevin didn't have much of a choice in the matter and made Subban the highest-paid defenceman in the history of professional hockey. Unbelievable!!
p.s. I also can't believe they agreed to pay Jeff Petry, who has averaged 17 points over the past 3 seasons, $7 million this season and next season. Crazy!!
