Is Cleveland still without the two starters who were injured? GAUL DAMN!!! Their pitching has been insane and against the best teams. Chicago's best qualities do not include overwhelming offense so if Cleveland continues to get this kind of pitching, or near it, it's going to very hard for the Cubs to win this. And I hate to say that because I like the Cubs a little more.

I'm cheering for the Cubs for sentimental reasons, but i wagered on the Indians beating the Cubs. I really love how their team is balanced but the main reason i picked them was Andrew Miller.

I don't recall ever seeing a pitcher as dominant as Andrew Miller. Ever. He's a game-changer and he's making Terry Francona look like a genius!

Corey Kluber is a horse and Miller is pitching just like he did for the Yankees earlier this year. He has really electric stuff and was kind of a late bloomer. The Indians seem to have the quintessential pitching and defense team.

Cubs Cubs Cubs!!! Another dominating series of pitchers by the Cubs this time. I'd like to see Francona win another ring, but my heart is with the Cubs.

Maybe Francona is a genius. I mean your down 3 games to none against the Yankees. It's do or die for 4 straight against a loaded team that also has Mariano Rivera...GEEEEEZ...you can't win against that team at such tremendous odds and one of your two best starters having experimental ankle surgery unless you have some touch of genius. No one on this board thought that was possible, including me. All I wanted at first was to avoid a sweep. Winning it all from down 0-3 with Rivera to slam the door. It's the definition of Miraculous.

Anyway. GOCUBSGO!!!

FRANCONA strapped on some steel ones yesterday and pitched Kluber on short rest. A lot of analysts said don't do that against the Cubs. Result Cleveland wins 7 to 2. Damn, the Indians are red hot. Their pitching has been nothing short of phenomenal with 5 shutouts in the playoffs. The Cubs are going to have to face Kluber and Tomlin again, both of whom shut them out already. Sorry to say it looks bleak for the Cubs.

There.was no balls involved in pitching Kluber on short rest. The Indians are down 2 starters so that means they have 3. The Yankees won in 2009 using a 3 man rotation in the playoffs. It's doable if one of the 3 is a horse who can pitch on short rest and Kluber is a major horse as was CC in 2009. Francona is a good manager but it's an obvious move the way Kluber has pitched.

Last week i was thinking of betting on the Cubs, since i was cheering for them to finally win a WS. But everyone i checked with also picked the Cubs. So the other day, one of my sources got back to me after game two and told me that he was willing to bet $100 on the Cubs if i picked Cleveland. Considering how dominating Miller had been throughout these playoffs and my great respect for Terry Francona's managing abilities, i said "Why not? Sure!" and figured my chances of winning were as good as any. 50/50 odds are always favorable odds in my book.

The Indians now lead 3-1 and my chances of winning big $$ are looking good! :D

p.s. Had i not wagered on the series, i probably wouldn't have watched the games much. But i've been glued to the tv since game 3!

Last week i was thinking of betting on the Cubs,

Hello Doc,

I remember reading your earlier post about betting on Cleveland. I thought it was a pretty good risk seeing how the Indians' pitchers had been so consistently dominate. Plus there's the old axiom that great pitching beats great hitting. So you probably would have taken a better than 50% chance at the time, but no one knows. I'm glad you are happy how things have turned out so far and we all know the odds against the Cubs down 3 games to 1 not including how tough Cleveland pitching has been. Your bet looks about 89% safe right now.

As I've said I've always had a soft spot behind the Red Sox for the Indians and both Chicago teams because of their super long streaks without a championship and fan loyalty throughout it all. I'm very happy for Cleveland regardless of any former Red Sox connections. But I feel for the Cubs and their fans even more. I'll be happy either way, but I hope against the great odds the Cubs can turn it around, even if I would enjoy a championship for Cleveland giving our Red Sox hero Francona his third RING, this time with another team.

GOCUBSGO!!!

I don't think Cubs will beat Kluber in game 7 at home but who knows. The Indians have rode their horse good but will he have legs down the stretch? This is like a horse trying to win the Belmont Stakes. It's a long stretch to the finish line and some times even the great horses have lost their wind in that last quarter mile. Not Secretariat though and maybe Kluber will bring it home like the great Secretariat did.

To be honest, i regretted making the bet as soon as i made it. But now i'm on the fence. But it's strange. There i am watching the game last night, hoping Cleveland would win. But there i was also cheering for the Cubs and mostly their fans. The Cubs could very well come back and win their next two games, which will piss me off. But part of me will be happy they finally won.

Hell Doc,

That's why I never bet against my feelings. It gets tough emotionally. I was almost rooting for Cleveland at one point because of their long struggling history, but I couldn't get comfortable with that. I want the Cubs more even though Francona is with the Indians also.

One thing that's exciting about any series is seeing a team win it all at home. Because of Cleveland's 3 games to 1 lead that could not happen in Chicago. Going back to Cleveland either the Cubs will come back, which would be tremendously exciting or the Indians will take it at home, also very exciting. Non-partisan baseball fans have two ways to enjoy it.

When you team comes from nowhere all season then wins the Series at home...that's better than any other scenario. See Red Sox 2013. :)

Cheers

With the Indians getting bitch-slapped 7-1 in the 4th inning, they would be wise to rest their bullpen and then throw the full fury of Kluber, Miller, Allen and Shaw at the Cubs tomorrow. I did not think tonight's matchup favored the Indians as Tomlin is their 5th best starter and Arrieta is a stud.

9 to 2 Cubs. If the night wasn't sealed for the cubs before it is now.

Tomorrow will be tough for the Cubs. They are bound to see Kluber and Miller for at least 6 innings. The Cubs had better keep the game very close early or the odds will be long for them unless they can somehow get to Kluber whose Series ERA is 0.89.

One more game Chicago. GOCUBSGO!

Maddon Defends Decision To Use Chapman

Maddon defends:

"It was just the middle of their batting order. There was just no other way to look at that and feel good, man," he said. "That could have been the ballgame right there. I thought the game could have been lost right there if we did not take care of it properly."

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...ring-closer-aroldis-chapman-5-run-lead-game-6

What Maddon is basically saying is he does not trust anyone else in his bullpen to handle the middle of the Indians' batting order- which is a capable group but hardly the most fearsome middle of the batting order even in the AL.

The use of Chapman in Game 6 in this manner is one of the most bizarre things in MLB history

I don't know about all of MLB history but with a 5-run lead at the time it looked illogical at best, bizarre yes. The Cubs are going up against Kluber and Miller tonight who have been rock solid. Of course it's all hands on deck for the Cubs, including any starters who could go an inning or two, but tiring Chapman a day before looks foolish. Every Cubs run could very tough to get. Just 3 by the Indians could do it. The Cubs will need Chapman to keep it close and seal it off.

Fucking Maddon. If the Cubs don't get this it's because of the way he managed Chapman in this Series. IDIOT! A 5 run lead yesterday and he wastes Chapman...5 RUNS.

Maddon didn't need to take Hendricks out either.

Look behind you.
Great game.... Would have liked to have Charlie Sheen come out as Wild Thing for the first Indians home game.

Yes, but to me it is better than Zack Britton not getting in the playoff game because the stupid-ass manager was waiting for Baltimore to have the lead . So, arguably the best reliever and maybe the best pitcher in the AL did not get in the playoff game. That, to me, is stupid.

Theo Epstein builds two clubs with the longest World Series droughts in history into WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHICAGO CUBS WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

Last night I realized how much I wanted them to win and went to bed disgusted with Maddon. He got his ass saved. I couldn't watch because I had to get up this early but I'm overjoyed the Cubs did it.

:cheer2:CUBSWIN!!!:whoo:

I'm very happy to see the Cubs finally winning the World Series after a 104-year draught.

I actually thought Maddon had blown it with a couple of questionable decisions last night. But the brief rain-delay seems to have helped them regroup and change the momentum.

The Cleveland Indians also had a heck of a season and played their hearts out. Terry Francona showed throughout the season why he's among the top 2 managers in the game along with Joe Maddon.
