EB the first goal by Belgium was a perfect well placed header. Goal can be scored many ways.

Neymar represent what I explained few weeks ago. Not a leader in the locker room but who scores goal in the locker room? And his acting got vastly ignored today by the referee. By the end of this world cup so many videos will be brought up that he may somehow maybe understand that he is being ridiculed all over. I really hope Belgium crushed them.

By the way if you think Japan losing today was bad, it's nothing against the semi final Brazil lost 4 years ago 7 to 1 at home for the WC!!

I have to make a correction.... It was 3 HRs on 3 throws by 3 different pitchers.... It was the last game of the WS.

So, I checked on the first game of the following season to see #4... Jackson got hit by a Jon Matlack's pitch on his first at bat of that first game of the 1978 season.

He homered on the last pitch of game 5 off Don Sutton and then 3 straight homers in game 6 - 4 straight pitches swung at from 4 different pitchers:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/1977_World_Series

"Each of Jackson's blasts came on his first swing, and each was hit off a different pitcher. Since Jackson had hit a home run in his final plate appearance of Game 5, and had walked on four straight pitches in his first plate appearance of Game 6, that meant he had "officially" hit four World Series home runs on four consecutive swings of the bat - a record not likely ever to be broken."

Look.... Game 5... Play by play, at the bottom of the page... https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LAN/LAN197710160.shtml

On his last at bat of game 5, he homered on a 0-1 count... Technically, you would be right if he had homered on his next at bat in game 6... But he walked

Game 6... https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA197710180.shtml

So, he faced Hooton twice before he hit his first of three consecutive HRs.

Titilleur,

It's a basic rule of baseball that a walk is not an at bat. Read what I posted above. Reggie did not swing during the first at bat against Hooton. 4 consecutive swings, 4 homers, 4 different pitchers, last at bat of game 5 and first 3 of game 6.

You might want to edit post #411, then... "4 consecutive HRs on 4 consecutive pitches against 4 different pitchers over the last two games."

Between his HR in game 5 and his first in game 6, Hooton threw four pitches...

You said "pitches" in #411... now you are talking about swings.... So... that makes four HR on four swings but on eight pitches...

Anyways... aren't we supposed to be talking about soccer on this thread?

How did baseball get into this??? There are already threads dedicated to baseball and that's where this distraction belongs.

Back on topic, the way Belgium came back and won after being down 0-2 showed a lot of character. I predict Belgium will kick Brazil's butt on Friday.

Look at how fucked up this bracket is:

http://www.espn.com/soccer/bracket

France-Uruguay and Belgium-Brazil should be semifinals for the entire WC, not quarterfinals. The top half of the bracket is so top heavy and the bottom half of the bracket is so weak in comparison that I am calling for an investigation. Who created this bracket, how and why? It seems totally unfair to the 4 teams who made it through that they should have to play such matches before the semifinals.

Perfect strategy, Russia did nothing all game except win.
Wonder how long playing for penalty kicks will be a winning strategy.

Spain were really boring against Russia, a stupid, pointless tiki-taka parody of their former selves, literally just passing the ball sideways and backwards in the midfield with hardly any incursions into the box and a complete waste of Diego Costa, who had been so good against Portugal.

It's not over 'till it really is...

Les Diables Rouges aerial game saved them from humiliation.

Belgium can't defend, not with only three slow central defenders, a single defensive midfielder, and two wing-backs that don't track back. Unless they change this, Brazil will shred them ....

However, it is more than likely that Uruguay is finished in WC 2018, since Cavani's late game leg injury will very likely keep him out of the France vs Uruguay match.

Difficult one to call. Cavani would be a big miss, but Uruguay play a better "team" game, and are much better coached than France, who often look like a clueless all-star team over-reliant on moments of individual brilliance.

France-Brazil and England-Croatia semifinals.

The final will be France v. England in a rematch of the Battle of Waterloo. This time France will win and England will go home defeated.
