UHC acquires Sergachev for JJ Moser 2 Days Before Sergachev No-Trade Clause Kicks In:
This is purely a cap related trade, in which TB needed to clear space and UHC needed an offensive minded defenseman to pair with Marino, whom they acquired from the Devils in a separate deal. I think Utah has improved their team substantially, also with the selection of Tij Iginla.
Yep....they need space/money for STAMKOS...ont libéré 8,5 M.

There is a report in the NY Post that the NY Rangers are working on a trade of Trouba (whom they really do not need) to the Red Wings to free up money to sign Stamkos. Trouba has a no trade clause, but it's believed he will waive it to play in his native Michigan. He grew up near Detroit.

I’m hearing that the player they’re targeting is Jake Guentzel & that they’re willing to let Stamkos leave unless he agrees to sign a team-friendly deal.
NHLTR is reporting that the primary suitors for Steven Stamkos will be the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators, both of which have the significant cap space necessary to give Stamkos what he needs. I wouldn't totally discount the NY Rangers if they can move Trouba. The problem is the one team Trouba will waive his NTC for is Detroit, and Detroit doesn't want to help NYR free up cap space so they can bid against Detroit for Stamkos.

NHLTR is also listing the Vegas Golden Knights as a Dark Horse in the Stamkos Sweeptstakes, if they can't resign Jonathan Marchessault.

EB's Steven Stamkos Signing Odds, based on information I have collected from media reports:

2-1 Nashville Predators
3-1 Detroit Red Wings
4-1 Carolina Hurricane
6-1 Chicago Blackhawks
7-1 NY Rangers
7-1 Florida Panthers
8-1 Anaheim Ducks
9-1 Vegas Golden Knights
12-1 Boston Bruins
20-1 Tampa Bay Lightning

**** I have downward revised TB's odds to 20-1 since they just acquired the rights to Jake Guentzel, and I have correspondingly moved Carolina up to 4-1.

Florida is on my list because he has been mentioned as being on their radar, but I am questioning the fit.. Is he going to be a 3rd line center behind Barkov and Bennett?

Oilers Unconditionally Waive Campbell, Take Cap Hit
Campbell was, in a very short period of time, much like the Soup he is named for, cooked.

This may go down as the worst free agent signing in the NHL in the last 10 years. And a very costly one. The lesson here might be to be very careful about spending a lot of FA money on a goalie.

I have now downgraded Tampa Bay's odds in the Stamkos Sweepstakes to 30-1 because they managed to sign Jake Guentzel before the deadline expired for doing so. Here are the updated odds:

2-1 Nashville Predators
3-1 Detroit Red Wings
4-1 Carolina Hurricane
6-1 Chicago Blackhawks
7-1 NY Rangers
7-1 Florida Panthers
8-1 Anaheim Ducks
9-1 Vegas Golden Knights
12-1 Boston Bruins
30-1 Tampa Bay Lightning

Florida has signed Sammy Reinhart- 8 years, $69 Million:
I will need to update the Stamkos odds but Florida odds to sign Stamkos will now be downgraded.

Nashville Signs Stamkos, Marchessault and Skiej:

As I predicted! Stamkos is going to be eating lots of hot chicken sandwiches, and listening to Garth Brooks!

Plus he’ll once again be playing for a team where there’s no state tax to pay.

I think LA signing Pierre-Luc Dubois & Calgary signing Jonathan Huberdeau was worse.

I might just agree with you, only for the reason that when you look at Campbell's stats before he came to Edmonton, there was nothing that screamed out that he was going to crater like he did. Granted he did not have a lot of games played in the NHL based on his years in the league, but he was a highly drafted goalie who gave every indication to the Oilers he was about to come into his own based on recent seasons with the Maple Leafs. The contract looks epically bad in relation to the production Edmonton got in return for their investment, not so much based on Campbell's track record. Surely, all 3 of those contracts, in hindsight, look bad. Campbell did not even give Edmonton one good year of production, on a 5 year deal, and they pulled the plug on him after just 2. The Soup was thrown into the garbage, with the leftover beans from last week.
