Holland is completely shut down right now
So are most scadinavian countries. Although these countries we're majorly spared with the previous waves. I wonder if not having to go through intensive measures in the first 18 months has led their population to take the whole situation lightly.

Out of curiosity, do you stop at a red light or stop sign?
Isn't this also imposed and against your basic rights ?
Driving is a privilege and not a basic right. Your body and whatever affects it can be considered as basic rights. Driving should be looked at as a game or an activity that follows certain sets of rules and principles, like say chess, or boxing, etc..
Owning a car, which is considered as your right (ownership right) , and driving that car, are 2 different principles. If you do not follow the driving rules, then you loose the privileges' of driving, which is not a basic right. This difference is one of the most debated regarding capital punishment. Since Life is a basic right, no one should be allowed to take it away like you take away privileges.
The Vaccine side do acknowledge your right not to take it, but they take away privilege from you to protect others. In principle, this sounds fair, since restaurants and entertainments are not basic rights, contrarily to education, grocery, hospitals, etc.. Therefore, even though it feels like punishment, the logic in my opinion is sound.
Conspiracy theories aside (as no point reasoning with them anyway), the real debate is to how to manage the crisis. From the very beginning, all those that were pro of letting the Virus loose so that we can develop natural immunity to it were silence pretty quickly and the debate was practically won by the ones who favored the flattening the curve principle. The Vaccine, is another layer of debate, where some of us believe it to be rushed, and are not trusting it enough, while others are pushing for it.

Anyway, all of this to say that comparing apples to ants does not yield a reasonable conclusion. Those against the Vaccine (non conspiracy theorist), do have a claim, and their worries are real, and some did die from it. Even though statistically the number is low, well, to me for example, the ME is all I have :), so as long as it it not super clear the side effects (short and long), I prefer to take my chances with a virus that has a low fatality rates, and accept my privileges' losses. Of course, whether the passport can be considered as a form of coercion and is against freedom of choice, well that is another debate.

He doesn't have a car. I think HM's chief mode of transportation is bus. Someone else is doing the driving and dealing with those impositions.
Btw @Halloween Mike, what's the story on that? You say you work, so you should be able to afford a car. It doesn't have to be anything fancy...just something to get around, etc. Do you even have your license btw?

I'd be going crazy during this pandemic without a car. It at least allows me the freedom to cruise around (without my mask on, on top of that), and eases my mind of the current circumstances. No wonder you feel confined...you have no real way of going anywhere, lol.

You are comparing Law and Order to Authoritarianism. Not the same thing!

You throw that around a lot and seem confused yourself.

Are you implying in Canada we are anything but the former ?

The government has a duty to pass laws to protect society as a whole, be it traffic laws or public health care. Some times those laws are at the expense of personal freedoms.

Locking people down for a virus that has a 97% survival rate is authoritarianism or forcing vaccines and forcing curfews or shutting down businesses, forcing masks. Having a police to go after criminals (that committed a murder or a bank robbery) is law and order. Having traffic signs is law and order. You get the difference? The government's duty is to govern and ensure law and order not to play Grandma.

You obviously don't understand what an authoritarian regime is.

Wikipedia is nice and short :
Authoritarianism is a form of government characterized by the rejection of political plurality, the use of a strong central power to preserve the political status quo, and reductions in the rule of law, separation of powers, and democratic voting.

When a majority can vote out a government, on a very fixed schedule, should they invoke laws the majority disagree with, that isn't authoritarianism.

You are confusing laws that YOU personally do not like with authoritarianism.

You get the difference ?

This point is mute because Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler were also voted into power. Government is able to manipulate the population which is what is happening right now. When the media is subsidized by the government who are spreading government propaganda it is not so much a democracy anymore. Media is repeating the same doomsday messaging 24/7, keep the population scared then the government comes to the rescue with providing a false sense of security with restrictions and lockdowns. This is my definition of insanity. So I stick with what I said problem is authoritarianism and you should not be comparing law and order to authoritarianism.

You can make up any definitions you want. You can hold the political beliefs you want as nutcake as they are. It's your freedom to do so

Vaccination passports, masks mandates and everything else you said falls, under public health laws and enforced by law and order, so maybe stop imposing your beliefs on others and telling them otherwise

The only one imposing their beliefs on others is the government and those that think like you. You never heard of let others live the way they want? Seems like the idea of freedom scares you. Do you want to government to spoon feed you eveytime you fall? Those that are afraid can lock themselves up for life but let the rest live the way they want. And do not bother to justify authoritarianism in the name of public health because you are just repeating what the government says. Public health is the biggest scam in history.

It is very reckless of the government to scare ppl so get them to get tested when the majority of them would be okay and have mild symptoms. Those tests are costing a lot of money and it is us ordinary citizens who will be on the hook for the bill. Not a single dime will come out of the pockets of sleazeball politicians in fact they made so much money of this scamdamic.

For all the good it did me. Now we are all locked down again. The joke is on me and on others who took the vaccine to be able to socialize like Halloween Mike said his friends did. Rest assured this joke will cause even more of the public to loose confidence in the government. Already my colleagues at work who were so pro-vacccine have decided to not get a 3rd dose. Ppl in family have decided the same thing. Getting locked down is my definition of getting fucked in the ass without any lube.

Dare you to say that to all the active military who are fully vaccinated and following protocol ;)
I think one of the points of this meme is that it satirizes how many modern men are pussies compared to those of the WW2 generation.
There's a guy in my office building who is so afraid to touch anything with his hands now that he kicks the handicap button to open the building entrance door automatically.
He looks kind of like the guy in meme which is another reason I LOL so much when I see it.

He is very wise for not having a car, can you imagine all the tickets and fines for not stopping at red lights or stop signs, they are for sheep not for someone who is at war.

What most forgot to mention that some of those men may have been pussies also but they had little choice most young men were not in the front lines by choice but because of conscription.
Ultimately dead is dead whether it is from a soldiers bullet or Covid.

What most forgot to mention that some of those men may have been pussies also but they had little choice most young men were not in the front lines by choice but because of conscription.
Ultimately dead is dead whether it is from a soldiers bullet or Covid.
I recently read a book of interviews of American soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge which, while not anywhere near the mortality rate of the first wave of American, Canadian and British soldiers who bravely sacrificed their lives at Normandy, was a battle that totally sucked, took many American lives and was fought in absolute frigid record setting cold weather.

You would be surprised, Fradi, that while many of these men were conscripted, some did volunteer, including one who admitted that he volunteered because he was 4-F due to eyesight issues, but felt ashamed to be one of the only seemingly able bodied 22 year olds in his hometown who was not fighting in the War. Ultimately he was advanced up the ranks in the American mlitary despite his eyesight issues because he had graduated law school, actually had some brains and could lead men. He talked about being in combat nonstop for 9 months after D Day, a 9 months that included pushing through France and Belgium, The Battle of the Bulge and ultimately Germany. These guys in the Battle of the Bulge were trapped in a town and surrounded by admittedly superior German Tiger Tanks. They could not get out of their tanks to piss or shit so they did so in their helmets. In any event when you read through this book of interviews you get the sense that these guys were extraordinarily brave and mainly were fighting for each other as much as anything else.

While it is true that many of them did not have any choice to fight, the things that generation did for all of us to be here and be free and not speaking German is truly extraordinary. I will never forget my Great Uncle telling me that he had received orders to shoot and kill any surrendering German soldiers and I never understood why they did that until I read this book. It was 100% retaliation for what the German SS did in killing surrendering American soldiers at Malmedy in the Battle of the Bulge. That was the biggest fucking mistake the Germans made in that Battle because the rest of the war Americans all over Europe were on orders to and did kill surrendering German soldiers and they killed many more than the 84 American who died at Malmedy. RIP to these American soldiers who sacrificed so that all of us could have some measure of freedom now:
