BREAKING NEWS
Trading resumes on New York Stock Exchange after a 15-minute halt triggered by plunging stocks

Why oil prices are crashing and what it means
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/09/business/oil-price-crash-explainer/index.html

London (CNN Business)Oil prices have suffered their biggest fall since the day in 1991 when American forces launched air strikes on Iraqi troops following their invasion of Kuwait.

Monday's crash spooked markets that were already freaking out about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy and demand for oil. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were down 22%, last trading at $35.45 per barrel. US oil is trading at $33.15 per barrel, a decline of nearly 20%

Here's how much Mass. companies lost at today's market open
https://www.bizjournals.com/boston/news/2020/03/09/heres-how-much-mass-companies-lost-at-todays.html
The 10 most valuable Massachusetts public companies lost $43 billion at the open of markets Monday as volatility continued on the stock market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 7% at market open today, prompting a circuit-breaker to take effect and halt trading for 15 minutes. As of 10:30, after trading had resumed, the Dow was down 5.6%.

Of Massachusetts-based companies, shares of General Electric Inc. fell the most before the halt, shaving another $10 billion in market cap on top of the nearly $25 billion the company’s market cap has lost since Feb. 22, the last day before the most recent stock decline due to the spread of coronavirus began.

Other local companies that saw significant stock declines include Thermo Fisher Co. (NYSE: TMO) and American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT).

In total, the top 10 Massachusetts companies have lost $73 billion in value since Feb. 22, not including the drop on Monday morning.....

Coronavirus panic spreads: Costco is pulling free samples over COVID-19

https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/4980216002

Costco is suspending free samples over safety concerns with the spread of the coronavirus.

It was not immediately known if Costco has pulled samples from all stores in the U.S. or only in select areas or when the suspension would end.

Club Demonstration Services, which provides in-store marketing events for Costco, declined to comment late Friday and referred calls to Costco. Costco did not respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

Costco stores in California, Washington state and Florida said they did not know when Costco would begin offering free food samples again.

The news that product demonstrations would be suspended first surfaced on Reddit Thursday.

What am I going to do for Lunch now? ;)

It`s a global pandemic by every definition of that term. It was a festering pre-pandemic a month ago.
Most world governments including in North America are slow to react and slow to give pertinent facts about the spread of this pandemic.
We are just now being told to avoid taking cruises. That was fukkin evident as soon as the first case was found on the Diamond Princess over a month ago.
Don't panic and be aware. Be smart.
I believe that senior`s residences should be quarantined before it reaches the critical stage of multiple deaths like in Washington state.

NY Gov. Reveals State Hand Sanitizer Amid Price Gouging, COVID-19 Fears

Cuomo said the sanitizer has a "very nice floral bouquet"

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loc...nitizer-amid-price-gouging-fears/2318446/?amp

What to Know
1). New York is now producing its own hand sanitizer, NYS Clean

2). Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the new product as a response to price gouging on hand sanitizer amid coronavirus fears

3). The product is made by New York prisoners in the NYS Department of Corrections system

New York now has its own state hand sanitizer, and it's made by prisoners.

The state sanitizer "NYS Clean" was revealed in a press conference on the spread of coronavirus in New York held by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday morning. Around 100,000 gallons a day of the product is due to be distributed to places like schools, the MTA, not-for-profits and other government agencies around the state.....

Cuomo said NYS Clean is a superior product to others on the market. While the World Health Organization and CDC suggest a minimum 60 percent alcohol content, NYS Clean has 75 percent alcohol. " Purell -- a competitor of NYS Clean -- has 70 percent," he said....

Governor Cuomo getting involved, and using Resources (Prisoners) at his disposal.

South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade canceled over coronavirus concerns
https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/0...arade-canceled-over-coronavirus-concerns/amp/

The big annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade through South Boston has been canceled over fears of the spreading coronavirus, Mayor Martin Walsh announced Monday night.

“In collaboration with Congressman Lynch, Councilors Flaherty and Flynn, Senator Collins, Representative Biele, and David Falvey from the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is being cancelled,” Walsh said in a statement just six days before the parade was due to step off on Sunday. “This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution to ensure that we are doing what is needed to keep the residents of Boston safe and healthy.”

I am a bit worried for the MLB season. If games are not attended MLB owners will not have the revenue needed to pay player contracts. Certain teams need revenue to pay the contracts they made. I am not sure to what extent the owners are insured for this kind of loss. Probably not at all.

CB. This is such bs. Dr. Oz was saying that 80% of the people that will get it don't even know they have it.

All my life I've never went to the Dr. for a cold or flu. Now I hadn't grown up with socialized medicine and I didn't want to pay the deductible and possibly infect others to hear take some Nyquil and drink fluids and stay home from work for a few days. I imagine most people on this board are like me. With cold or flu you take care of it yourself. As far as I know, I've never been accounted for in the denominator. Oh I'm sure that they do some estimate but as far as I know. I've never been counted. As far as the lethality of this disease for older people the flu is always more problematic for this age group.

What is your motivation here? Why do you want to make this worse than it is? Is there any room in your house to move or is every room packed wall-to-wall with toilet paper and hand sanitizer? LOL
