Interesting discussion. A couple of points.

1. The assertions made in the earlier comments can not be further from the truth. That open letter is not from Stanford University and it does not have the university's backing. On the contrary, its authors got reprimanded for making it appear like it has.

Provost Persis Drell and Faculty Senate Chair Judith Goldstein sent an email to Stanford faculty the following week on Sept. 14, reprimanding authors of the open letter:

“In the last week, we saw an inappropriate use of our official academic council email list,” they wrote. “A letter from some medical school faculty was written and signed consistent with the freedom of faculty to voice their opinions. However, the letter was distributed to all members of the academic council using a University email list and this was not consistent with policy.”

2. The letter itself is curiously devoid of any actual substance. It purports to "call attention to the falsehoods and misrepresentations of science recently fostered by Dr. Scott Atlas", but somehow fails to mention a single specific falsehood or misrepresentation fostered by Dr. Atlas. This author provides a detailed treatment of that remarkable piece of shit writing:

For a bunch of doctors, they write amazingly well. They artfully slime a colleague and leave a trail of accusation in the air without actually textually making disprovable statements.

****

To her credit, our Provost responded that the signatory's use of an internal list-serv to distribute a political email is completely inappropriate. By doing so, she recognizes that this is what it is, a political email, not an "ethical obligation."

Thank you for posting the link to the letter, quite an educational exercise.

“ In response, Goldstein acknowledged at the meeting that “almost everyone is sympathetic with the letter, but the problem of using listserv was one of precedent.”

Ignorant indeed. Practically illiterate.
Dr Atlas is a Radiologist.
What competence does he have in pandemy or microbiology ?
I am a civil engineer but would not work as a mechanical or electric engineer !

What a great example.

I was specialized in interlukins, I would never work in vaccinology, because I don't have the skills.

I wouldn't want you to work as mechanical or electrical engineer either, however, I would think that as a civil engineer, you would be qualified to oversee an engineering firm in general. Visionary leaders can succeed and serve as agents of change without necessarily having industry-specific experience. At times, this even helps to get an organization (or in this case a government) out of a rut. Perhaps this is the intent with Atlas. Leaders without specific industry experience can be surrounded by experts who can fill any gaps.

Remember, scientists are usually kept locked away in basements to develop their trade, at which point it handed over to company CEO's to decide how to move forward with it. The main reason, they have vision for the WHOLE picture, that scientists generally lack.

Fauci, like many here, dismiss the considerable and widespread tragedy that has become the biproduct of the current narrow minded approach to this pandemic.

I am watching a documentary on Trump presidency.
Particularly the press conference in April when he suggested disinfecting lungs with Lysol or other equivalent product.
If only americans would have followed his expert advice, there would not have been 235000 deaths as of now.

Trump said today that the death number is greatly inflated by doctors who are paid more if they declare deaths by Covid.
What a dishonnest crazy man !

Donald Trump jr. Said on Fox yesterday that Covid deaths have dwindled to almost nothing because we've gotten control of this thing.
About 1000 deaths reported that day.
As we say : the apple never fall far from the tree.
He is perhaps crazier than his father !

And here I thought we were talking about Atlas, but sure, why don't you use this opportunity to digress and whine about Trump again.

You and your brethren need to toughen up, thicken your skin and deal with the world around you. You can start by voting Nov 3. Outside of a few, I'm sure no one believes he actually meant to drink the stuff. It will help if you stop taking him so literally.

For example, if I took your moniker literally, You and Trump would be indistinguishable to the point that I'm surprised you don't idolize him.

Look behind you.
Little clip I found that makes sense, some may get it.

SPEAKING OF WEARING MASKS ME AT RESTAURANT: Hostess: ok, I can seat you at this table right here (4 feet away), but I will need you to wear a mask to the table. Me : what happens when I get to the table? Hostess: you can take off the mask. Me : then it is safe over there? Hostess: yes. Me : are those fans blowing above the table? Is that the air-conditioning I feel? Is the air circulating in here? Hostess: no words. Confused look. ME AT GROCERY STORE: Why is there plastic on the payment keypad? Cashier: to protect people from Covid. Me : but isn’t everyone touching the plastic keypad the same way they would the regular keypad? Cashier: no words. Confused look. ME AT DRIVE-THRU Server: (holds a tray out the window with a bag of food for logical friend to grab) ME : why is my bag of food on a tray? Server: so I don’t touch your food because of Covid. Me : didn’t the cook touch my food? Didn’t the person wrapping my food touch it and then touch it again when placing it in my bag? Didn’t you touch the bag and put it on the tray? Didn’t you touch the tray? Server: no words. Confused look. Life is hard for logical people right now. We are being raised without the ability to process and execute logic.

UK on lockdown:

Like all varieties of Corona virus. like cold and flu bugs, the covid19 virus is mutating. A new variety first appeared in Spain and now is rampant in Europe. It seems to spread easier than the older version and is causing a second more deadly wave. As far as we know it hasn`t landed on American shores yet but its only matter of time. A vaccine will have a tough time controlling a virus that mutates as often as a cold virus.

Incorrect, Coronavirus is nothing like cold and flu bugs, also known as Influenza H1N1. Influenza H1N1 and Coronavirus COVID-19 are completely different. The last influenza pandemic (Spanish Flu of 1917) isn't even close to the current Covid-19 pandemic. 500 million died in the Spanish Flu as it mutated quickly into 2nd and 3rd waves. When compared to the common flu, Influenza, the corona virus is slow to change. COVID-19 is very serious, but is nothing like the cold or flu bugs, not even close.

Looo its time you got educated about the common cold. While the majority of colds are caused by the rhinovirus, several other viruses like coronaviruses, cause colds too. Most types of viruses, if around long enough, will mutate.
They are more similar than different.
There are different strains of coronavirus that have been around for years. Covid19 is new and its definitely mutating as it spreads .

Opinion: Testing is the key to reviving travel and tourism
A pilot project in Alberta allows certain incoming travellers, including international visitors, to quarantine for only 48 hours.

^^Testing is the Key....
I have read where Airports are doing COVID Testing.
Coronavirus Testing Site Opens at Logan Airport (Boston)
Wednesday (October 28th) marks the official opening for airport and airline employees to get tested for coronavirus at Logan.

This Article quotes $200 for a Rapid Test.
Those who are tested using the PCR test or blood antibody test can expect results in 1-3 days and a cost of $75. Results for the rapid molecular test, which costs $200 upfront, would come back within 15 minutes, Satzman said. Travelers can schedule a test ahead of time online or walk up and get a test.

^^Seems a little pricey for the $200 Rapid Test.
Hopefully this price will come down.

Some people really don't believe in Covid, they even elected at the congress M. David Andahl who died of Covid in early October.
