The 3% positivity rate threshold for NYC school closure does seem low to me, but I do not know what the science is behind that rate and I assume that there is some reason they went with that rate.
There is a reason why they have 3% and it has nothing to do with science. It’s the threshold that was negotiated with the teachers union in NYC. That’s why you have other regions in NY with schools still open even though they have higher than 3%

So it's really all about the teachers and not the students then.

That is a 1.5% positivity rate, which is not bad. CT was at 6.48% as of yesterday:
I believe the positivity rate is defined as the percentage of the positive results from the total number tested per current day. You guys are comparing apples and oranges here.

Mr. PRESIDENT TRUMP please scrap that trade deal with China...exercise your 30-day guarantee option of first refusal on that trade deal!...lol!...put AMERICA FIRST!!!...:usa2:
So pathetic to address this request to the Spreader in Chief who denied to address the problem and is now responsible for more than 250,000 deaths. Come on, the election is over, the sore loser is Trump.

What Legault is waiting for? All the kids are bringing the virus home from school, is he blind or what? Yet, every day there are over thousands new cases! Yeah right! People are not stupid! The numbers speaks for itself.

Legault is a clown. It is always the fault of the bars and gyms. Reality is cases were stable till schools reopened. Kids are super spreaders of viruses and then they bring it home and pass it on to their parents.

Not with Covid. In fact Iceland did a contact tracing study and researchers didn't find a single instance of a child bringing Covid home and infecting their parents. If the children ever caught it, one of the parents brought it home to them. The study concluded that children do not seem to be vectors for the disease. Likewise NYC closed down the schools because the positivity rate reached 3% for the total population. The positivity rate in the schools was <0.2%.

Then why did the cases spike right after Labor Day and when the bars were forced to close the cases still remain high? I am sure people were still having parties on the low during the summer.

Sorry Cloud - Let me be more clear. I was referring to the school kids. I believe it is particularly the younger children that do not seem to be a vector for the disease.

Look behind you.
My son just informed my that in Quebec 10 people are allowed for Christmas and New Years is a no.

Here are the key dates to keep in mind:

  • Dec.17: Voluntary quarantine period begins. School moves online.
  • Dec. 24-27: Indoor gatherings permitted, maximum 10 people, no limit on how many households can attend.
  • Dec. 28: Voluntary quarantine period resumes.
  • Jan. 3: Voluntary quarantine period ends.
  • Jan. 4: Elementary school classes resume in-person. High school students attend class online.
  • Jan. 11: High school students return to in-person classes.
The conditions
The prospect of a short period of near normalcy next month will be welcomed eagerly by most Quebecers.

Much of the province has been under partial lockdown since October. Restaurants and bars are closed and most gatherings are prohibited.

Legault confirmed what many had suspected would happen: The current partial lockdown will be extended until Jan. 11. And government programs to help businesses affected, such as gyms and restaurants, will also be extended.

The measures appear to have stopped the exponential rise in new cases, but Quebec still registers upward of 1,000 new infections daily. There are currently 651 COVID-19 patients in the province's hospitals.

Public Health Director Dr. Horacio Arruda made it clear on Thursday the holiday plan depends on cases and hospitalizations remaining stable, and Quebecers continuing to follow public health guidelines.

This is ridiculous. Instead of the most recent preser, Legault should have just spit in the face of all the "essential workers".

Yes, the new cases spikes as soon as the kids are back to school, there are over 1000 schools in QC closed due to the outbreak in those school. It is the fact, and the numbers are there! But the media keep it low! Shutttt !Please do not mention it, Legault don't want to close the schools, so just keep it for yourself!

NY's governor Cuomo will be getting an Emmy for his Coronavirus press briefings. This will help him with his book tour.

I think his skills would translate well if he had chosen to be an actor rather than politician. Reagan did both careers, and I think Cuomo could pull that off too. I could see him playing the Steven Van Zandt role in Lilyhammer.

I have an idea:
A new lottery, "The COVID lottery"

If we have COVID, what consequences will we have? we put all the possibilities in a vase and you get it.

Nothing, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), anxiety, cardiovascular abnormalities, depression, carbohydrate metabolism disorders, hyperlipidemia, lipid metabolism disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, reduced lung capacity, chronic fatigue, loss of taste and smell.

What`s really scary for thousands of young people (between 20 and 40) , is the chronic illnesses they are left with after experiencing and recovering from a mild case of covid19.
Post covid symptoms :
Partial paralysis, tingling and trembling in hands and feet, trouble with balance, excrutiating headaches , trouble sleeping , fatigue, unable to concentrate and memory loss. Its like they`ve aged 50 years overnight.
Nobody knows what causes these health issues but the 2 main candidates are an auto-immune over reaction , and/or small blood clots forming in the brain and other vital organs.
