Update:

Yesterday in the United States = 175,000 new cases and almost 2,200 deaths
The closest country is India = 35,000 new cases.
What are The United States doing for their dead? soon 260,000

No time for prayers, much less to hug them before the long trip :(

Connecticut Governor Lamont has stopped short of a lockdown that will cripple small businesses, but yesterday announced a $10,000 fine for businesses not in compliance with State Covid rules:

.

This is a case of the few bad apples spoiling things for everyone else. This is what always happens and you can't stop the bad apples or totally root them out. There have been a few highly publicized episodes of Covid noncompliance in CT, including by an underground club in the New Haven area which had 500 maskless persons in its parking lot watching a fistfight between 2 customers. It took local police 30 minutes to disburse the crowd. This kind of nonsense causes super spread clusters that can whip through a community.

The increase in fines is justified for the idiots you’ve described but the fines along with the sometimes ridiculous rules imposed on small businesses that play by the rules are out of line. Most of the small businesses in our region play by the rules and are rewarded with lockdowns, shutdowns, more restrictions etc. Governors are trying to fix complex problems with one broad stroke and it doesn’t work. Closing restaurants at 10 pm, closing gyms at 10 pm, does Covid only become an issue after 10 pm? I’m agreeing with what your saying, especially with the examples you have used, but our governors are killing the small businesses that are the very backbone of this country.

Over the summer India had nearly 100,000 new cases and 1,500 deaths but no mention about that here. But now that CNN has announced that Joe Biden is the president elect, the USA cases are at record highs. Shame on Biden for allowing this to get out hand. Let’s hope Biden doesn’t shit the bed when he distributes the vaccines from Trump’s initiative, Warp Speed.

The coronavirus is not instantaneous, it takes several weeks.

This is not a joke it is very serious.

India is very far away, the USA are our neighbors.

There you have 88,000 people hospitalized, and offloading is being considered.

I never said this is a joke. What is a joke is how you politicize everything and when you get called out on it you spin it to try and change the narrative. I pointed out how nobody was mentioning India when they had their crisis over the summer. The fact they are halfway around the world means nothing to the USA/canada since our border is closed. Yes, many are hospitalized in the USA, but with the therapeutics that the USA has developed and the protecting of our seniors (NY excluded) along with people that have co morbidities many will survive. But many more lives will be saved because of Operations Warp Speed. When the vaccine becomes available to you (America First) you can then protest by stepping aside because of your political beliefs and let someone else get the vaccine. Put your money wear your mouth is.

So why would the Canadian not have worked on vaccine production facilities the last few months.
For the disclosure. I have dual citizenship so I can talk about both countries as my own. The reason that Canada does not have much high tech is simple. Everything technologically decent is sucked down south. There are numerous examples especially after WWII. Sometimes US big corporation deliberately destroys Canadian high-tech that does not want to surrender or is starting an alternative cooperation with Europe. Bright young people move south in masses. In the opposite direction it just a trickle. The question is why US can’t just help the northern brother? US wouldn’t even notice some additional 20-30 million doses.

This is a response to NatureBoy claiming: " But there’s a .0000000004% chance of fatality?"

I don't know where or if you learned some maths... Tonight over 260,000 deaths on a 335,000,000 US population. It is 0,0776% of fatality (deaths). If you add all those with maybe lifetime sequels, do the math. Soon it will be 1/1000, think about it 2 seconds.

edit: sorry NatureBoy, I didn't catch that you were sarcastic. My bad!

We don't have techs as the FB AMZN MSFT GOOGL, but we have a lot of knowledge and young fastly growing companies: Shopify, Lightspeed, Constellation Software, Open Text. Montreal is acknowledged for AI and Google and others works within the Canada to access this knowledge.

Concerning the US helping others, it's all this stupid Trump policy, America First. Last Weekend it was the G20 meeting. The 20 richest economies. They all agreed helping poor countries having access to vaccines, except USA and Russia. While they were discussing the COVID issue, Trump was no more on line, he was golfing. But it is over with him now and I hope USA will get back great again (which it has never been under Trump. He preferred bashing allies and going on with Putin and his lover, Kim). So pathetic! USA is the true definition of imperialism. After WWII, there was the Marshall Plan to reconstruct Europe by american engineers with US products. Don't get me wrong, this plan was exceptionnaly good for Europe but very good for USA also. That's what a lot of Americans don't understand. By helping other countries they get richer not poorer and are granted with a recognized leadership. The last four years were just a big joke and nobody was taking USA seriously, no respect, as the clown in chief was so erratic in his decisions and behaviour. But time are changing...

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock encourages everyone to stay safe for Thanksgiving and stay inside. He issued a tweet for all residents to hold a virtual Thanksgiving and to shop on line for Black Friday and then he got on a plane and flew home to Mississippi to be with family.

Rules for thee and not for me:

Earlier, I was very critical of the 40 California Lawmakers that that flew to Hawaii for a two week conference. With hat in hand, I apologize for my short sightedness. I just read this article. The CA lawmakers needed to sequester themselves to make new laws and policies that will bring the State of California back from this pandemic. The one law maker interviewed wore a mask while in Hawaii and practiced social distancing.

As well-meaning as Borgeas, Bigelow and the others may have been, in this instance, the optics are primary because their constituents are struggling under the limitations caused by the pandemic.

Borgeas, Bigelow and the rest aren’t the first elected leaders who create an exception for themselves; sadly, that is routine lawmaker behavior. But it has to be said: Their constituents expect better

Supreme court rules in favor of religion. God bless Amy Coney Barrett. I'm not big on religion, especially because of the sins I commit every time I cross the border! But now, at least in NY, people can go back to church as freely as if they wanted to go to a bar or get a lap dance at a strip club. It actually took the supreme court to set Lord Governor Cuomo straight.

God bless, and Happy Thanksgiving!

So Trump Supreme Court nominees will contribute to the Covid 19 pandemy.
Excellent decision !
