The countries with the highest covid-19 death toll

Unfortunately those are only the reported #s. The real number is excess mortality, where they compare the total number of deaths against the typical # of deaths in a year. That's the true impact of COVID.

Back in May, they were estimating the true number of covid casualties in the world was 100% more than reported:

I found this interesting, especially the video within the article. I guess things in the US were going all too well for too long according to the media and they finally were able to get their pound of flesh. I didn't go to Sturgis this year or last because of the COVID concern, but the longest running motorcycle rally in the US shouldn't be part of the medias annual super spreader scare tactics. The message should be to get vaccinated. What was interesting in the video was that it shows super spreader events happening all over the country not just South Dakota. What it also pointed out is how many in minority communities that are just not getting vaccinated. Fear works to increase viewership, it doesn't motivate people to get vaccinated. The politics of COVID is beyond ridiculous no matter what your views are. Get vaccinated, if not run the risk of catching COVID and having an unfavorable bout with it.

Short term solution is mandatory masks and social distancing. Mid term solution is mandatory vaccines.....2 shots and later 3 shots.
Look at New Zealand for an idea of how dangerous the Delta variant is. In a country that is on total lockdown and had 0 cases 2 weeks ago ....then one case a week ago....to over a dozen now. Unfortunately their population is only 20% fully vaccinated so if they can`t control the present small outbreak, they`ll be in a critical situation in a month.

Alabama: les than 36% fully vaccinated, no available ICU beds in Alabama out of the 1,562 units in the state.
Earlier this month Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene received applause from the audience during a Republican fundraiser in Alabama when she said the state is “one of the most unvaccinated states in the nation.”
And some here will blame the current administration for this...
It's pathetic

Compare that to Quebec`s 500 new cases. BTW those 500 cases are a 5 fold increase since July. Time to close all the borders again.

This is not 2020. A good portion of the population are already fully vaccinated. Look at the UK - big spike in cases in May/June from Delta but no matching spike in deaths, unlike previously. Cases don't mean much in vaccinated populations since people now have the tools to fight the virus. We need to finish the job and get to 95% plus vaxx rate.

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The U.S. Gulf Coast is glowing like a bad sunburn on maps that show COVID-19 trouble spots in red.

Alabama's coastal counties lead the state in new cases, and some events have been canceled in Florida and Louisiana because of the latest surge.

Health officials believe the spike is due to a combination of some of the nation’s lowest vaccination rates, unabated tourism, a disregard for basic health precautions and the region’s carefree lifestyle.

Tuesday’s news comes as Texas is experiencing a new wave of the virus.

Last Friday and Tuesday each saw more than 20,000 new cases of the virus confirmed, numbers that have been exceeded on only a handful of days since the pandemic began.

More than 12,000 people were hospitalized with Covid in Texas as of Monday, nearing January’s record of 14,000.

Hospitals in several parts of the state have warned that they are full.

Looks like Texas COVID cases have been on the decline for the past 2 weeks:
