Why rollout of COVID-19 vaccine could be 'the most difficult part' in Canada

^^Logistics Logistics Logistics

“Pfizer's vaccine candidate needs to be stored at –70 C to –80 C, but commercial freezers typically go down to –15 C at the most...."We're probably going to have centralized hubs and teams going out from those hubs to do mass immunization campaigns," he said. "Rather than what we're seeing with the flu vaccine with pharmacies and physician offices involved with distribution."....

Another Covid vaccine breakthrough as Moderna reveals its jab is 94.5% effective - making it BETTER than Pfizer's (but the UK hasn't bought any...)
Moderna becomes the second firm to announce early results from a clinical trial, suggesting 94.5% effective

In a study of 30,000, 95 people tested positive for coronavirus: Five of them had vaccine while 90 did not
The study saw 11 cases of severe Covid-19 in non-vaccine group, but none among people who had the vaccine
Scientists hailed the 'tremendously exciting' results as proof there could soon be multiple working vaccines
Moderna's vaccine is expected to be cheap to distribute because it can be kept in normal fridges for 30 days

It's a very good news:):):)

Could some if you science-oriented government lovers tell me why it will take all the way until mid-December for approval to occur?

It was supposed to be "Operation Warp Speed", but that does not sound like warp speed to me. In Star Trek when Shatner said fucking warp drive, he was obeyed. I guess Trump is not Captain Kirk in getting results like this:

Perhaps warp speed has now been turned down to Sleepy Joe speed.
It just could be everyone has relaxed a bit and no longer afraid of getting their ass kicked by Trump if they don’t get it done at warp speed.

Nobody is really talking about how the vaccine dissemination will be prioritized and this needs to be discussed.

How is the rollout of the vaccine going to work- Americans first, Canadians second and then the rest of the world? Will it be distributed based on need throughout the world or by the American government to its citizens first and then to other countries as deemed necessary and appropriate? Who is performing the triage on this? Within the USA, which States get it first, the ones with highest positivity rates or the ones who beg the hardest or to the Governor who gives the best political blow jobs?

Patron, it’s going to take a few weeks for regulators to pour over the raw data that Pfizer has collected. Vaccine experts will be convening soon to start analyzing everything. They are not going to be relying on Pfizer’s conclusions but will rather look at the actual data itself and make their own conclusions. I for one am glad that they will take at least two weeks to deliberate on this. Any shorter and it’ll raise eyebrows and probably contribute to more vaccine hesitancy. I will probably be in one of the first groups to have the opportunity to receive the vaccine because I’m in healthcare, but I will be reading in detail the clinical trial data myself before I get vaccinated.

So far this year I have had a flu shot, a pneumonia booster shot, and shingles shot part 1. Shingles shot part 2 will be in second week of December.

I do remember thinking same shit Saul said when I read this shit about the trials, obviously not the rubbish about affecting 0.4 % of the population, but the side effects being considerable. They are kinda downplaying that. Seems like a fair amount of people got that after receiving the initial dose.

It seems the astra Zeneca vaccine is the poor mans vaccine. Doesn’t need those crazy fridges for storage, can be kept in regular fridge, will go to the under developed world likely

They are so downplaying the side effects. Some people will get the vaccine and become zombies. A few people here have already said they will be among the first to receive it, I would suggest to the Mods that the vaccinees be required to certify the date when they receive the vaccine so that we can examine their posts before and after vaccination. If they start to post as a zombie would post, then you know we have some side effect in action. Perhaps the Mods will even give them a pass on rules violations if it is known that the posts are due to the side effects of the vaccine?

I have not had a shot for anything in the past 40 plus years that I can remember, do not plan to get this one either.

STN,

I certainly agree with a reasonable "wait and see" period to see if SSJ and others like him turn into zombies after being vaccinated. 1 year might be a bit long but certainly after the 1st 50 million or so are vaccinated, we should know. I think vaccinations should be done in small waves, just in case some people do turn into zombies and we need to combat them. You want numbers on your side, you do not want a wave of 1 million zombies having to be brought under control.

Yes, most testing is done by in-house toxicologists that work for the pharma/chemical companies. It seems like the pouring over by the FDA took longer than the testing itself which is insane. Members of the public that are weary of political appointees approving a drug premature can rest assured that this is very unlikely. As a loosely related example, one of the directors of the EPA responding to critics of the Trump administration said that they still have a handful of employees that have worked there at the EPA's inception in 1970.

Read up.

As I have said before, do not plan to take a vaccine with zero longterm testing for a virus that after 10 months effected 0.4% of the population.
I'll take it if the FDA approves it. I have reservations for pregnant women and small children. Why would you give a vaccine to a body of humans that do not seem to be affected or even vectors for this disease. This seems to be something like the shingles vaccine that is given to older people.

I think somehow some of this vaccine must have been released and available to Merb posters a long time ago.
There must have been an errant shipment to the UK also lol.
