Temporary thread to move all posts related to the new MERB configuration.

As of the re-design, search results are no longer displayed in any logical order (be it by date or anything, you'll now have a post from 2007 followed by a post from 2009 etc) and it's impossible to get hits as posts instead of entire often massive threads. This is really archaic and dysfunctional. Why the change? It's a mess.

Just tried to enter the chat room and was asked for a login and password. My merb handle and password didn't work. I wasn't offered the option of creating an entry way so I can only assume that this feature, like so many others, is f'ed up.

Hello Fred Z,

I also just tried to enter the chat room. I was prompted to enter my board name and password. Tried 4 times. No luck.

I am beginning to like the look of the new board. But it's starting to look like a new board with new or different problems. It seems like we should have left everything alone two boards ago when things all worked. Proverb: "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...is looking very wise right now.

Mack, when in the advanced search window, on the grey bar just below the green header, you'll see "search by type". Click on this and you'll be back to a somewhat similar interface with the same options, allowing you to search by forums and order by date.

Is it still possible to search by "show posts" instead of the entire thread where you then have to search through the thread to find what you're looking for? For example, can I do a search on Daphne and have it just show the posts that contain Daphne? If so, I can't figure out how to do it and if not, that'd be a major malfunction in the search feature. <insert stupid looking angry smiley here>

Special, I tried it using Daphne as an example and, it seems even if the option of showing post instead of thread is available, it still show only threads. That might be a real bug.

Blow, same thing happened once before on a previous update. It's a vBulletin update quark. We are fixing them when peoples like you bring them to our attention.

You guys can PM a Mod or, if somebody have time, you could start a thread end enter the links of thumbs that need fixing.

That's right, we had the same problems in prior vBulletin updates, yet it seems as though we have learned absolutely nothing from them. One would think that the Merb tech experts would have analyzed and eliminated those problems with each progressive upgrade, just like NASA analyzed what caused 3 Apollo astronauts to burn to death in 1966 on the launching pad, after which NASA changed the way the cockpit door opened (outward rather than inward) so that it wouldn't happen again. But it seems that rather than have less glitches, we have more. Mod 11, is this progress? Or is it regress?

I saw an episode of Califonrication last night in which one of the characters discusses the fact that with the advent of the cellphone and text messaging technology, the English language has actually devolved into a series of acronyms, like "LOL", "RFLMAO", and "BRB". He said that we are regressing into "pseudocommunication with acronyms and word fragments and no punctuation", and therefore are becoming more like "cavemen" rather than evolviing from them. It seems like we are following the same pattern here on MERB with the technology, we seem to be going backwards. It still has not been explained why this upgrade was even necessary.

Helping out the MODS to fix new board

Yes like many of you at first i did not like the looks of the new board and i even voted againts it. But now after a few days i am starting to like it. Intead of bitching on it lets all help out and get this board fixed and make it one of the best one out there.This is a great board and i think the mods are doing a great jobs at kepping it this way. Yes some times the mods are hard on some of you but still they know how to get the crapy stuff out of the board. So lets all pitch in and help them fixing it.

Happy new years to all and make this year a great year to find new talent out there.

My second one is when we open the review board in the top right corner where we put our user name it never stays in and people think that every time you come back to the board you need to log in every time.

wow. I'm going to make popcorn, this ought to be good. CSM I don't know if you ever heard the phrase 'don't pick a pissfight with a skunk', but the last time I checked, insulting the MODs is a great way to get a free ticket to Suspensionville, MERB.

Hello CS,

Your previous post, which I replied to, made no sense to me. This is why I asked the question I did. As is often the case, your post made sense only to yourself. From your latest post it seems you were talking about the poll question which was asked while your actual post dealt with answers. As such it made no sense to me then and makes none at this point either.

Considering the source of the poll and the way the questions were phrased, I did not expect many people to take it very seriously. The poll is also irrelevant as there is no chance that MERB will revert to the old version of vBulletin. I am also waiting for someone to post a list of all the features that are now missing from this latest version as I have yet to discover any feature that is missing when compared to the old version. The only major difference I have found is with the search engine and the inability to sort search results by post which I will look into.

The moderators are not in charge of what software is used and do not have any say in the configuration of MERB. Any bug reports or direct questions are appreciated and we will attempt to get answers for them, but complaining about things just for the fact of complaining is pointless.

And as usual CS, if you or any other member does not like the way MERB is moderated, you are free to leave. If you continue to be disrespectful to the mods or any other members, I will make the choice for you.

I was using the old version of Internet Explorer. I downloaded the new Google Chrome and now I can see the date and time of each post.
