Hello Shijak,

When I logged in for the first several times on the new board I always checked the "remember me" box until my name and password start to appear as soon as I type in the first letter of my names which shows me I am in the memory and everything is working. But I have still had trouble frequently when trying to log in even though my name and password come right up as soon as I start to type. So, something is messed up that wasn`t on the old board.

Hmmm,

Merlot

Have you tried this merlot?
I think SK already found a solution for that and he posted it here. I made the change and logging on works fine now.

been away for a while... This is a terrible site redesign. Search is choppy and completely non-intuitive.
Was any user testing done?? (using humans)

As of the re-design, search results are no longer displayed in any logical order (be it by date or anything, you`ll now have a post from 2007 followed by a post from 2009 etc) and it`s impossible to get hits as posts instead of entire often massive threads. This is really archaic and dysfunctional. Why the change? It`s a mess.
95% of the time you will get results that are as good as under the previous VB version
- some of you simply haven`t noticed the search icons have moved
-some of you insert BOTH keyword & username in ADVANCED search - wrong
-Try using SEARCH THIS FORUM rather than General Search, you get better results

Is it still possible to search by "show posts" instead of the entire thread where you then have to search through the thread to find what you're looking for? For example, can I do a search on Daphne and have it just show the posts that contain Daphne? If so, I can't figure out how to do it and if not, that'd be a major malfunction in the search feature. <insert stupid looking angry smiley here>
if searching for Daphne likely you have a good idea which forum to look in ...you open that forum and do SEARCH THIS FORUM
if Searching for posts by Daphne you click on her name and then VIEW FORUM POSTS

Ok, I`ve found slight success in this now. The problem is that I was opening the forum and typing Daphne in the open search box located at the top right of the page where the magnifying glass icon is, I didn`t even realize there was a new function underneath the "number of threads" where you can search the forum that you`re in. It still doesn`t solve the problem of bringing up just the posts that keyword "Daphne" is posted in. I don`t want to do a search of something and have to weed through 800 pages to see the 1 post in the thread containing what I`ve searched for. That`s asinine!! Perfect example is this. Open up the Cleopatra thread click on the "search thread" option and type in the word Natalia. The results bring you back to the first page of 174 pages, I found "Natalia" on page 51. This appears to be a major major glitch in the system and needs to be addressed ASAP!

Hello SK,

I ran an advanced search in the Cleopatra`s thread for NAtalia and it gave me this result: https://merb.cc/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=25664 Do not forget to click on "advanced search" and do not simply enter your search term in the basic search box. The advanced search page has many more options available.

At first glance of the search results, it would appear that all the links displayed lead to the same post when in fact they do not. Yes, if you click on the link in the main column it will bring you to the first page of the thread. What you have to do is click on the "last post" icon next to the poster`s name in the right hand column. This will take you to the actual post with the searched for term highlited in green.

I would go a step further and say the Search function sucks rhinoceros balls! It's a complete and absurd regression from what we previously had. I can't find shit, and the Mods are soon to be inundated with new threads on already discussed topics that used to be findable with a 30 second search. Now a 30 second search no longer exists! Mods get ready for redundant thread inundation!

EB,

The only problem with the search function is that members refuse to take the time to learn how it works. It is different than the old version of vBulletin and like most new things there is a learning curve. I would recommend that anyone who is a regular user of the search function actually try to learn how it works before complaining about it. I believe that once you do so, you will discover that the new search function is very functional. I would also advise everyone to use the Advanced Search function with it's much greater flexibility instead of doing a search in the basic search box.

We understand that some members are frustrated. Perhaps they should take a step back, relax a bit and then give it another try. This new search function is here to stay and it is to everyone's best interest to learn how it works.

Okay, this helps immensely then. I wasn`t hitting the "last post" icon next to the posters name in the right column. I still think it sucks Rhino balls though. ;)

True Mod 8..most people who are complaining about the new search engine haven't
even taken the time to learn it. I am surprised at the number of people who don't know
where all the different search icons are or how they work. I get tons of requests to edit and delete threads across all our boards daily.
In 99% of the cases I can find the posts that require action in seconds. So can anyone if they try.

My problem was I was trying to learn it but I didn't download a copy of the new V bulletin handbook explaining all the changes to the new software. It's not like we were given step by step instructions with the change over.

Strange as it may sound, I am finding it's faster to navigate the site and find things with this version than with the old version.
It may just be that people don't don't like change..although admittedly there are some things that need improvement with the VB4 search. I am sure VBulletin are aware of the shortfalls and will address the problems in future versions http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?334140-vB4-Search-Engine&highlight=search+engine

I agree Fred, for the most part I am a fan of the new board, my only gripe was with the search function, otherwise I like the change. One more question though, what about the Chat Room?

Chat crashed while the webguy was away, it will be restored any time now. I would guess by tomorrow.

As this question has already been asked and answered, and there are numerous other threads pertaining to the new configuration of MERB, I see no reason for this thread to remain open.

Thread closed.

Threads and posts relating to new MERB configuration have been combined...

Hello everyone,

I have combined the various threads and posts relating to the new MERB configuration into this one thread. It would be very much appreciated if you would post all comments, complaints, bug reports and suggestions relating to this subject in this thread only. Any other thread started on this topic will be removed.

Thank you,
