I watched the match and it seemed to me to be very one side in favor of the USA and that they should have won by more than 2-0. The Netherlands goalie, an Amazon of a woman who looks like she could be over 6 feet tall, was making some very bold saves. On one she gambled, came out of the net because she saw a crossing pass coming that hit the striker in stride and she was able to turn the ball away. She gambled correctly, because it would have been a goal if she hung back in the net as the pass was on target.
However the Netherlands goalie did not touch either goal. And on the Lavalle goal it looked to me like Netherlands had 3 players in position to stop Lavalle's surge to the net but none of them could and they all ended up being useless statues on defense.
I also saw a US defender (O'Hara) get concussed when she and the Dutch forward both leaped to head the ball and instead they headed each other's skulls. To have someone head your skull, as if it was a soccer ball, cannot feel good. But O'Hara wanted to stay on the pitch until the ref (correctly) sent her off to go get examined, and she was in fact determined to be concussed by the big hit to her noggin.
BTW the American goalie (Naehring) made 1 save- 1! And the ball was kicked directly at her, she did not have to move, at all. Any one of us could have saved that ball. So we still do not know how good she is. She was never tested.

I agree with you on this.........it's a very bad precedent to mix politics and sports, which started with the Berlin Olympics and nobody seems to have learned anything since then. I did not vote for Trump but if I won anything and was accorded an invitation to visit the White House I would accept, no matter who was in office. That is the way it should be. You are representing your team, not yourself. And if I had Jalimon on my team and he did not go I would kick his ass off the team as selfish and playing for his own team, which is mostly what he does here anyway.
BTW I have coached basketball and softball and benchings and deprivations of playing time are things I always enforced against selfish, me-first players, even those who started. In one case I benched the starting power forward because his rebounding technique one game was very lazy, he was not boxing out and his man was beating him for offensive boards and it was because his fucking head was not in the game. He was sulking from missed shots on the other end and wore it in his body language. I then inserted the backup power forward who to my surprise played the rest of the game with reckless abandon, and was a force on the boards. I did not intend to leave him in, I just wanted to send a message to the selfish sulker, but he was so totally playing out of his mind that I left him in. I had no choice, when someone is playing out of their mind you ride it as long as you can. Meanwhile the selfish sulker rode the bench and his rebounding was much improved the next game. This is how you handle these situations. I very much doubt Jalimon could play for me. I identify the problem children on the team quickly and do not tolerate selfishness or agendas. No one player can have their agenda placed above the team's agenda to be a cohesive unit that functions together.
