What should the Colts do now that they have clinched 1st place in the AFC?

  • Rest some key players to avoid injury before the playoffs?

Now that the Colts have clinched home field advantage for the playoffs, do they rest some of their key players at the risk of losing their first game?

On the other hand, they are 13-0 and have a chance to go undefeated this season. So should that be their priority at this point?

Personally, I think they should try to run the table and go 16-0. Only one team has gone a whole season undefeated. It would be a shame to spoil it by resting either Manning or James and increase the chances of losing a game. Who needs the rest anyways? They get a first round bye, and another week off if they make the Super Bowl.

Then again, do they want to risk a key injury over the next three games?

Darcy,

I agree. If Dungy does not try to run the table and rests his starters, he will be widely loathed and hated for disrespecting history. I believe he would be hung in effigy and transform the Colts into the most hated team in pro football history, setting them up for many catcalls in the postseason.

If one of these games is 42-0 in the 3rd quarter, then I don't have a problem with Manning and James and Harrison being rested. If it is a close ballgame and he does it, he will never be forgiven if the Colts end up losing.

I guess we will have to play it by ear?

You have to try to run the table, like EagerBeaver said if you're blowing them away in the 3rd quarter you can rest some guys but you have to go into every game looking for a win.

I would agree with you, but if you think of it: on the last game of the season Payton Manning blows his knee and will miss all of the playoffs, who would look like an idiot now?? Even if you do finish the season 16-0, if they lose Manning byebye SuperBowl...
So, it is a tough call for dungy...

I think that I would start with the titulars players and depending of the score of the game at 2nd half I will put the 2nd team. I mean to beat the miami dolphins undefeat season has to be a goal for each team in the league. my 2 cents and my first post :D
