Hey all.

I will be making my first trip next week to Montreal, and I am trying to figure out a good hotel to stay at...

Can I ask for recommendations from the users here?

My first choice is something in the Marriott chain, and the second is Sheraton.

Are there any good hotels with these two chains that is easily accessible for SP's? Possibly something with a Bar/restaurant in the hotel or close by?

Hey ... I'll be making my first trip to Montreal next week as well, or is the week after. I've got some pretty good advice from a few good guys on this site and the Hotel De La Montage is highly recomended. Its a bit on the pricey side ... I ended up going with the Contemporary King for $200+ per night. It's a SP friendly hotel, girls have direct access to the floors and don't have to worry about the hassle with the lobby ... anyways hope your hotel search goes well!

Cheers,

Greetings

I have stayed at the Hotel Opus and I really liked it but I think its like a step down from the W or other ultra modern hotels. I was able to get a deal on that hotel in the past with airfair on the travel sites but nothing has come up so far.

If money is not a problem then you should really be able to find a decent place.

Recently I was looking at hotels that had larger suites and the Candlewood or Holiday Inn Express seemed like good options. Probably standard rooms but plenty of space so you can throw a party with friends, if you know what I mean.

Marriott Chateau Champlain and Sheraton Centre. They are both centrally located, and both have a bar and restaurant in the hotel.

During the summer months, i'd recommend the Marriott Springhill Suites, which is located in Old Montreal. Lots of great places to visit & eat at in that area:

If you want to be closer to downtown, stay at the Marriott Chateau Champlain, which is also close to the Bell Center:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yulcc-montreal-marriott-chateau-champlain/

If you want to go with the Sheraton hotel chain (Starwood), i'd recommend the newer & trendier "W":

http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels.com/w_montreal/SO.htm?IM=PP_LHN_SOP_US_WH_1471&

There's also the very popular Sheraton Center located in the heart of downtown. However, the rooms aren't that special:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/shera...propertyID=463&EM=OLA_GoogleMaps_SI_463_NEAST

There's also the Sheraton Four Points, located a bit further on Sherbrooke street. It's for the more budgeted-oriented traveller & sps have told me in the past that there are lots of families staying there as compared to other of the chain's properties:

http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels...reville/so.htm?EM=OLA_GoogleMaps_FP_217_NEAST

During the summer months, my personal choices would be:

1) Marriott Springhill Suites
2) "W"
3) Sheraton Center
4) Marriott Chateau Champlain

Off-season:

1) Sheraton Center
2) Marriott Chateau Champlain
3) "W"

Marriott has weekly web deals that save about 10 to 15 %. Various cities, various states for each weekend (Thurs. - Sun.). Montreal is showing up for this weekend, including Chateau Champlain. Not as good as you might get on priceline but if you're there for a few days you'll get their points and the taxes back. Link:

I liked the hotel but have only stayed there once, and wasn't able to hook up with anyone:(

I get a weekly newsletter from this great travel site (travelzoo), with all the best promotions found online for that week.

These are two that might be of interest:

Hello Mlle Bijou,

Hmmmm, these are great hotels. But, I see they offer the Hyatt for $169 after 40% off. On Priceline I got this hotel twice, last fall in October for $77 (when I did not challenge the bidding very well) and this spring in April for $ 62. Yes, there is no guarantee which hotel you get and the rooms at these rates are probably the smallest they have...though still very nice. But, I will go with Priceline from now on.

Cheers,

Korbel

Maybe I'm too picky (chicken? :p ) for the whole bidding game!?
I tried it once last year and ended up at the Doubletree (bleh! ) which I did not like at all. I had booked for 3 nights so I was stuck, and to make matters worse their wireless was down the entire time. The front desk agent was really not concerned, she just kept telling me to go use the computers at the business center.
Yeah, like I really want to sit in the business centre surfing escort review sites, or have to go back every hour or so to check my email.

Yup, and that was it for me. No more priceline or bidding for me, thank you! LOL ;)

When i come to montreal especially in the summertime i want to stay at the montagne, no if, ands, or buts about it. So every couple of days i check out expedia and travelocity and as soon as i see a price at the montagne i am happy with i take it. In the summer i normally get a room at the montagne ranging between $95 to $130 per night plus taxes.

I'm in agreement with you here. Whenever i check either Expedia or Travelocity & see HDM being offered at a reasonable price, i jump on it. I recently stayed there for $120 per night & i was pleasantly surprised to see that they had given me a brand new room. It was only a few weeks old & even had a plasma tv. On top of that, internet is free of charge. For myself, it's the perfect location, right in the middle of all my favorite restaurants, bars & shopping spots. I don't hang out at the rooftop bar much, but if i want to, it's there. Only drawback is that there are lineups in front of the elevators from Thursday to Saturday due to the rooftop bar's popularity. If you're a guest, you're allowed to bypass that lineup. However, it can be a hassle for an sp wanting to come up & see you....unless you come down like i did & greet her, of course. This way, you have her in your room much quicker & she isn't upset from the waiting-in-line & the stares she might have received while being in the lineup.

Overall Montreal prices are really not that bad.. Try getting anything for that price in Calgary!.. Even 30min outside of the city, not gonna happen! Maybe that's why I've had to think of creative ways of booking. lol

I also usually check www.expedia.ca , www.travelocity.com & I have found that www.hotels.ca often has additional hotels or better deals than the other two, so I always check that one too.

Another sneaky trick :)D ) that works out quite well sometimes is, once I've found the hotel I want to book, I take a quick look at the hotel's actual website, and check for seasonal or special promotions I may be able to find. Sometimes the hotel's website will show a price even lower, or I'll find a promotion that offers me some kind of perk for the same rate I was already going to pay. For example, I did this once and ended up booking a Romantic weekend through the Westin (Edmonton) website. I paid the same rate listed on expedia et al but got complimentary breakfast (up to $20 per person) both mornings, a bottle of sparkling wine & strawberries dipped in chocolate on both nights and late check-out (4pm).

Sneaky, sneaky. :D Not too bad. A lot better than nothing at all, that's for sure. ;) LOL

I booked with them once & everything seemed confirmed. The next day, i received an email from them telling me that the hotel no longer had vacancy on the dates i requested. So i figured they're a nickle-and-dime outfit & i'll avoid booking through them in the future & never did.

That sucks! I've booked through the site many times and have never had a problem. They actually usually have better rates, or even rooms available for hotels that show as sold out on expedia! (I've booked one of these as well and didn't have a problem at all). I've been told www.expedia.ca and www.hotels.ca are actually owned by the same ppl. I would suggest giving it another chance. ;)
