More pain, no gain with Bob

Scott Gomez has been traded to the Canadiens for Chris Higgins

Four comments:
1 Higgins is a hard-working player with the potential to star on a team which can provide him with teammates who have some offensive talent and a less defensive system. Gainey's gotten rid of him for a player with a huge long term contract on the downside of a hardly extraordinary career.

2 I thought that Gainey was simply bland. I didn't realize that he is simply simple.

3 I don't remember: Didn't he play before head gear was mandatory? Did he wear a helmet? He did a lot of body-checking. Did he lower his shoulder and hit with his head?

4 Gainey and Houle have been the Canadiens' GMs for about half of the last two dozen years. How can one imagine that it has been possible for the Leafs to still have managed to have a worse record?

But i sincerely doubt he'll produce as much in Mtl as he's ever produced in Tampa Bay, which in my opinion wasn't worth the contract he got. The pressure of playing in his home town will likely get to him & the minute he doesn't rack up the points the fans expect him to get, the boos will be raining down on him (that's usually what happens in Mtl, right?) and he'll pull a Dany Heatley.

Exactly right Doc (except for the part about pulling a Heatley - Vinnie's too classy to do that), which is exactly why I said several days ago that I wouldn't want Vinnie's career ruined by going to Mtl or TO.

Looks like Sather now has the money to trade for Dany Heatley. There's also a rumour circulating that he wants to ship Wade Redden to the Leafs. I hope that's just a rumour....don't want Burkie to make the same mistake Sad Bob just made.

Gomez is due to earn $33.5 million (US) for the next 5 seasons. He only got 16 goals & 42 asssists last year (in 77 games). Ouch!!!!

You're on a roll Doc - exactly right again! The only good news for Bob and his woeful habs is that they got rid of Higgins. Now Carey is the UNDISPUTED party king of the team.

Trying to find a positive side to this trade I heard this from Bob McKenzie on TSN.

Montreal is expected to follow up its acquisition of Scott Gomez by going hard at one of the elite free agent wingers from a pool that includes Martin Havlat, Marian Hossa and Marian Gaborik.

If this is true then the trade might make a little more sense since Gomez is a good play maker but I still say he's being paid 3.5 million too much. Also, imagine how his salary will influence what Markov will want when his contract is up in two years.

It's just been confirmed to me by my source that Hossa has indeed signed with the highest bidder of the day, Chicago. Details of the transaction still to come.

Meaning Havlat is officially on the market.

Here's the deal. No one wants to come to Montreal.......sorry, sorry, correction: very FEW really GOOD players would like to be in Montreal. Bob has a very VERY hard time. He is working his A$$ off, don't think he isn't. He is wise, patient and clever. He'll make a deal, a really great one, but only if the price is right, and he can land big names. He probably has one of the hardest GM job in the entire league, maybe even the toughest job in the entire North American continent. Period. I just hope he is wily enough to lure some big gun into this city, which is S-T-A-R-V-I-N-G for a superstar. This city has not had a superstar player since Guy LaFleur (unless you count Roy...but he's a goalie)!!! In the 1970's!! That is so so SO pathetic, but that's the situation.
