Jason Blake was considered a bargain & possibly the best free agent pickup in the whole league prior to the start of the regular season.
Yes by the Toronto media, the only one more fanatical than Montreal's French press. BTW so was Sergei Samsonov in 2006. :p

he's one of the league's leaders with shot-on-goals.
All the more reason to be very worried with his measly 5 goals.

Don't forget the fact that at the start of the season, he discovered he had Leukemia & it doesn't take a genius to figure out that his mind wasn't exactly on hockey
His shot number and speed show he OK physically but his lack of productivity shows he's completely lost his confidence. Will he ever get it back only time will tell but I personally think he played way over his head in 2006. (which of course was the last year of his contract. )

Bottom line, he's a proven 20 goal scorer that had one lucky 40 goal season and is being paid $5,000,000 a year and your pal Ryder is a proven 30 goals scorer being paid $2,950,000. :D

I am watching the Penguins-Flyers game on Versus Network. Within 30 seconds of the opening faceoff Jason Smith of the Flyers went after Ryan Malone of the Penguins. Off came the gloves. Both players landed some good shots but Malone landed a few haymakers. After Smith finally tossed Malone off him and both players went off for fighting, the Penguins immediately sent George Laracque out on the ice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks like this one is going to be a bloody game.

Looks like you've never had anyone in your family who's battled & died from cancer. You should show more compensation, my little man.

Give the guy a fuckin' break! He's fighting cancer!! As if the Leafs or anyone else in the league new that Blake would wind up with Leukemia.

On top of that, he's still better than any of those fuckin' lazy overpaid Habs players!! Prior to the start of the season, most of the experts, which included even Yvon Pedneault, Francois Gagon, Bertrand Raymond & Michel Bergeron among others said that of all the free agent acquisitions during the off-season, Toronto got possibly the best deal of all since they didn't overpay like most of the other teams for a quality players with scoring skills & character who was among the league's most coveted free agents. I also believe this is true today. Most agreed that due to his very sensitive situation, the jury on his acquisition for this year is a wash. However, he's now playing like he was last year on Long Island since been paired up with Wellwood & Tucker as linemates. I agree that he might be more of a 20 goal scorer than a 30 goal scorer, but i've been saying the same about Michael Ryder for 2 years. At least Blake skates like the wind, has many scoring opportunities, shots on nets.....and gives a 110% effort game in & game out & he has missed minimal playing time due to his potentially fatal illness, which is Leukemia. A class act all the way & possibly one of the most courageous players in all of sports at the present time!

Please don't compare him to Sergei Samsonov! I wouldn't give a roll of tape & a jock strap for that over-the-hill player!! At least, you don't see Jason Blake yawning during most of his team's practices, as we've seen Ryder doing recently on most of the local broadcasts. Blake has a passion for the game.....Ryder has a passion with himself & his constant partying.

Just saw Gary Roberts beat the crap out of Ben Eager in defence of George Laracque.
In a Pens-Habs game, Roberts beats the crap out of Kostitsyn, Laracque pulverises Kostopoulos and Malone takes Bégin to the floor. Then we wonder why we have lost 6 home games in a row!!

Well other than both my parents getting it twice each, both grandmothers, two uncles, four aunts, and a best friend dieing in high school at 17 not much.

Jeez Doc seeing how upset they're making you these days I'm starting to think you're really a closet Hab fan. ;)

Prior to the start of the season, most of the experts, which included even Yvon Pedneault, Francois Gagon, Bertrand Raymond & Michel Bergeron
Well one (Gagon) out of four ain't bad. ;) Bergeron is just a boot licking retard and Raymond and Pedneault are racist A-holes who quickly shit on anyone who is not "quebecois de souche"

Toronto got possibly the best deal of all since they didn't overpay
Easy to do when there's no bidding war because no other team is pursuing him aggressively. :)

I agree that he might be more of a 20 goal scorer than a 30 goal scorer, but i've been saying the same about Michael Ryder for 2 years.
Like it or not the stats prove you wrong because Ryder has been in the league for three years and produced 25,30, and 30 goal seasons. Blake's been around for seven producing three in the 20s and the one lucky end of contract 40 goal season.

I'll take your word on that because during the few Leaf games I was able to stay awake in this year he didn't stand out at all. I'll take an afternoon nap so I can keep an attentive eye on him next Saturday. :D

Please don't compare him to Sergei Samsonov! I wouldn't give a roll of tape & a jock strap for that over-the-hill player!!
Ouch! over the hill at 29 and Blake is 34.

Lastly Doc here's a link just for you http://www.michaelryder73.com/ since I know you'll want to give yourself an autographed pic for Christmas. :p

First of all, i do not dislike the Habs as much as people think. I mostly generally dislike their idiotic fans who have no clue what hockey's all about. Like their local sports media people, they seem to believe that the whole hockey world revolves around them. They regularly make the stupidest comments ever heard on the airwaves. They regularly expect other teams to accept trading their superstars in return for the Habs' leftovers. They believe they could get Vinnie Lecavalier in return for Saku Koivu & Michael Ryder....and upon reflection, they'll that Tampa Bay could probably throw in Brad Richards or a first-round pick into the package. "Oh, that's too much? Okay, we'll ship you Crystobal Huet", they'll say. Idiotic! As for the Habs as a team, i have a love/hate relationship with them. Indeed, my favorite team since i was a kid is Toronto. But i once was a Habs fan at a certain depressing point in my life & there is still something within me that wants them to do good (as long as it doesn't impede Toronto). Each year, i'm pulling for the Habs to make the playoffs, whether i like them or not. The playoffs are never the same if the Habs are not in them. Last year, if Toronto wasn't in, i would have been pulling for the Habs if they would have made the playoffs. And i must also admit that yes indeed, i enjoy watching them fail & this mostly has to do with my sincere dislike of most clueless Habs fans & local sports media.

As for Ryder, i've met him personally on several occasions & even hung out with him. However, i've always said (and even told it to him in his face) that he wasn't as good as people made him out to be, nor as good as his stats showed. A lazy player...a loafer. Someone who doesn't take hockey seriously & might one day wind up wasting that God-given talent of his. But he's a good guy after all....and for someone as happy-go-lucky as he is, he might as well be playing hockey elsewhere than the hockey hotbed Mtl is.

Finally, i do agree that Bert Raymond is a separatist....so are Pierre Rinfret & Rejean Tremblay for the matter. I don't know about Pedneault...i think he's just a very negative person (actually, like the other two i've mentionned) and rarely has a good thing to say. The guy looks like he's chronically constipated.

And yes, i believe that Samsonov is over-the-hill even for his age....and i do believe that Jason Blake is a late bloomer & still has 3-4 good productive seasons ahead of him. Samsonov likely won't be in the NHL by year's end.

Tampa definitely stole 2 points last night and didn't deserve to win  , having to rely on a fluke goal by goon Andre Roy

Why didn't the refs go upstairs on the Koivu shoot out, it looked like the shot might have crossed the line - I guess the league officials in Toronto just wanted to call it a night and go home

Your sheer stupidity when it comes to hockey never ceases to amaze me.

I can't wait for Saturday to come by & watch the Leafs once again dominate the Habs & leave town with 2 pts. :D

Agreed 100% Doc...but, golly gee, don't you think exactly the same statements apply to the Laughs?

Similar. But i mostly listen to Mtl-area radio & tv broadcasts. Once in a while i listen to THE FAN 590, but it's not as fun to listen to compared to the Mtl broadcasts. In bitchiness & constant complaining, Toronto fans are a match to the Habs fans. Same with the reporters (especially Steve Simmons). But i rarely hear Leafs fans coming up with asynine trade suggestions. Never heard a Leafs fan say that they should trade Brian McCabe & Andrew Raycroft for Vinnie Lecavalier & Brad Richards.....or for Chris Pronger & JF Giguere. :D In Montreal, these types of silly & unrealistic trade rumours are the norm.

I see nos glorieux rebounding from recent bad luck and getting back on track tonight against a good Philly team.

I missed the game but caught the highlights & opinions on the game while watching 110%. To the panel's surprise, Philly didn't play their usual style, which is a lot of hitting & generally aggressive play. Even though they once again got outshot by the opposition, I give credit to the Habs for not having the infamous Philadelphia Flu & showing up at the game & coming back with a convincing win. But they better not get too confident, since they're in for a battle against the Leafs on Saturday night. One thing they might have going for them Saturday is the fact the Leafs are in Atlanta tonight & might be tired & jet-lagged from the trip back. Huet in nets tomorrow? Or will Carbo come back with Price?

Last year they also had a habit of playing poorly on weekends. I don't know why.

Well, this past month, they've been playing poorly on every night of the week other than when they play Boston. Mtl has always been the Bruins' achilles heel, even when Steve Penney was in the nets for Mtl. Heck, you could put Brisebois in the nets & the Habs would still find a way to beat the Bruins! :D

Speaking of Beat-ings.......

Last Night, Bruins vs Devils, Milan Lucic vs David Clarkson

Milan Lucic is one hell of a fighter & also a pretty good hockey player. He'll soon become a fan favorite if he hasn't already. I'd take him on my team anytime.

I'm in Hotlanta right now watching the Leafs/Thrashers game.....Leafs are leading 2-0 after 2 periods. Leafs will win & you can bank it!! The Leafs have Atlanta's number....just like the Habs have the Bruins'.

Big game tomorrow night at the Bell Center. The Leafs will finally beat Carey Price. Leafs fans at the game sitting in my section are trying to coax me to follow them to Montreal tomorrow. Heard it's cold up there. Brrr!!!!

Koivu Heading to the Sharks?

There's a strong rumour going around where Mtl and San Jose might announce a trade in the near future:

Sharks-Habs deal in works?
Friday December 14, 2007 07:58AM ET

The Montreal rumor mill has been grinding away this week - and the Sharks have been front and center in much of the trade gossip. First, San Jose was supposed to be sending forwards Patrick Marleau and Steve Bernier to the Canadiens for forwards Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder. Then it was Koivu and Ryder for Marleau alone, or Bernier and center Joe Pavelski. Other names were tossed into the mix.

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/30257

Personally, if i'd be a Habs fan, i'd be upset about such a trade. Marleau is having a poor season and he's also a very soft player. Koivu is a much better overall hockey player than he is and he also has a tremendous amount of heart where Marleau's has been questionned. Ryder is a proven 30 goal scorer while the other players mentionned are not. If Habs management really wants to get Saku and Ryder going, they have to open up their style of play and let them be more offensive. Give them more freedom and space on that ice. Even Wayne Gretzky would have a hard time scoring 30 goals in such a tight, defensive-minded system! However, if i'm a Saku Koivu fan, i'd be happy for him that he's moved out of Mtl. Enough of this bullshit year after year!!

Exactly how Sundin feels about playing in Toronto :p

Nah! They love Sundin in Toronto.....he's achieved near-Godlike status. In Mtl, they're always complaining & bitching about Koivu's play & are constantly on his back. Considering everything he's went through (e.g. Cancer, nearly losing an eye, etc)....enough is enough. He wants out. Can't blame the poor guy.
