Thanks!!! I wholeheartedly agree!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I am sure you will WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE with the President of the leafs, Brendan Shanahan, stating in an interview on TSN, that he

has been in consultation with the Montreal Canadiens:confused:, yes, the Montreal Canadiens:lol:, on how they managed to get out of

their slide, from a few years ago, to where they are now. Shanahan is wise in doing so, being that, the Montreal Canadiens have a 92%

chance of making the playoffs while the leafs have a 95.5% chance of NOT making the playoffs this year with around 40 games left

to play.

Good news for leaf fans, such as yourself, is that, Dion Phaneuf is on the IRL and his return is weak to weak.

As one leaf fan commented, ' Take your time Dion, don't rush it.'

Yes Ballsamic, and here are some actual quotes from fans on NHL.com:

1. Finally some good news for the Leafs.

2. Put a pylon on the ice with his jersey on it. Opposing teams won't even notice the difference.

3. Was he hit by a shirt thrown from the crowd?

4. Upper body injury: no heart.

5. We've lost 18 of our last 20...can't get any worse.

Rumour has it he's not really hurt and that the truth is he's been suspended for playing the last six seasons with deflated balls.

Good news for Leaf fans indeed!

Without their "captain" the Leafs had their best game in a long time!

Sure, they LOST as usual, but - wow - it was in a shootout, so they picked up a loser point, which for a team as hopeless as the Leafs, is a magnificent accomplishment.

Kessel? The usual: zero goals, zero assists, zero points - but hey, he did have a giveaway.

Devils in shootout: 2 goals against Bernier on 3 shots. Leafs in shootout: zero goals on 2 shots.

Quite an amazing streak the Leafs have going since Randy was canned:

1 - 8 - 1

Winless in the last 8

3 points of a possible 20

Shut out 3 times, held to just 1 goal a few more times. "Goals for - what are those?" ask the Leaf players.

"Tie Game" Bernier is wishing he COULD get a tie instead of all those losses.

In their latest loss, they were defeated 3-1...at HOME...by Arizona , one of the worst teams in the league (even fewer points than the Leafs).

The Leafs are now 23rd in the league (matching their final position last season)...but the 24th place team (Ottawa) has only 1 point less and has 3 games in hand. The 25th place team (Columbus) has 3 points less but has FOUR games in hand, Even the 26th place team (New Jersey) could soon catch the Leafs (4 points less, 2 games in hand).

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."

Hey, maybe the post-Carlyle Leafs suck (sorta like the Carlyle Leafs, the pre-Carlyle Leafs...in fact ALL the Leafs since 1967!) but at least they're now defensively responsible, right?

Uhhh....WRONG.

In their humiliating 3-1 loss at home against Arizona, the Leafs were outshot 45-25...and you know what folks: Arizona is NOT the Gretzky/Messier/Kurri/Coffey/Anderson Oilers. It's not the Orr/Esposito Bruins. It's not the Beliveau/Richard/Richard/Geoffrion/Harvey/Moore Habs. It's not the Howe/Lindsay/Abel Red Wings. It's not the Trottier/Bossy/Potvin Islanders. It's not the Lemieux/Jagr/Francis Penguins.

It's the freakin' 27th place team in the league...and it still DESTROYED the hopeless, hapless, gutless Toronto Maple Leafs!

Big Game Bernier allows a beyond center ice SH GOAL!!!! Hahahahaha....That is phenomenal!

I don't know what Bernier's greatest achievement has been this season but it must be a toss-up between letting in this goal and his famous statement about Nelson Mandela (!!!) being great "both on and off the ice" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Where I belong.
If you take another look at Bernier's remarkable feat, take particular note of how many people missed the opportunity to see it. The place is half empty. Then again, it's also half full.

BOYZ!

Hmmm, 120 feet. Maybe Bernier got a tip during a break that air mail would be coming...maybe he can't see at that distance...maybe he told the shooter if you can even hit the net at that distance be my guest...or should we put it down to EPIC BRAIN FART! It is a vivid explanation of why the Leafs...ARE THE LEAFS!

I'm gonna go with the explanation that it was puck drop to start the 3rd period and most the fans were at the beer stands trying to drink away their teams annual failure!

Here's the Youtube vid. LOL. Love it.

The only thing better would have been if a player named Mandela scored that goal. LOL.

Goalie Jonathan Bernier becomes butt of latest Maple Leafs joke

1297658329829_ORIGINAL.jpg

And then Jonathan Bernier became the butt of the latest Leafs joke, a blunder that cost the team yet another game and may have been the cruellest bit of comedy the Leafs have seen in this pointedly laughable season.

I have my own suspicions on their downward spiral most especially in the standings. It is called 'Tanking'.

The NHL has a history of tanking, notably, the 1983-1984 Pittsburgh Penguins for the #1 pick in the 1984 draft.

The GM was Eddie Johnson and the head coach was Lou Angotti.

It has been noted that Angotti has since admitted it did happen though Johnson has not.

They tanked in order to secure Mario Lemieux as the #1 pick.

Pittsburgh Penguins weren't doing financially well at the time. The franchise was in serious trouble.

The leafs are in serious trouble but not financially. Example: Clarkson, Kessel and Phaneuf contracts ).

To have fans throw a team jersey on the ice is the ultimate insult to any team but yet the place is packed

though some in attendance wearing bags ( another form of insult ) and it continues with the player's lack of effort.

A team that believes in the saviour mentality, such as, Burke, Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson and even the possibility of

landing Mike Babcock, leads me to believe that they have sights on a new saviour in next years draft.

P.S The captain of the 1983-1984 Pittsburgh Penguins was none other than Randy Carlyle.

Congratulations to the Leafs for a record setting performance

I am amazed that nobody noted that article linked in gohabsgo's post mentions that the Leafs have set yet another record. In a league which has been around for 100 years, any record is a non-trivial feat.

"fastest short-handed goal from the start of a period in NHL history" I would bet anything that it was also the longest. Sadly, as the Leafs gave up the goal rather than scored it, they have neglected to list it among their accomplishments on their official website.

Congratulations to the Leafs for yet another two records

Last game: fastest goal to open a period by any Leafs opponent
This game: fewest goals scored in the month of January

The Leafs have existed for almost 100 years. It is astonishing that they have managed to set 3 records this month alone.

On a personal note, closing my eyes and betting against the Leafs no matter how bad their opponent (Arizona, New Jersey, Philadelphia) has more than paid for my vacation.

Right you are, anon Vlad - as usual.

And while we're congratulating the Leafs, let's not forget to mention that :

They're 3 - 16 - 1 in their last 20

They're 1 - 9 - 1 since they canned Carlyle.

They have scored 1 goal or less in 8 of their last 9 games (during which their record is 0 - 8 - 1).

Truly a remarkable team : perhaps the worst of all Leaf teams in their last 48 years of complete and utter failure!

And as the Leafs fans never tired of telling us over the past half decade: "Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."

Positives That the Leafs and Their Fans Can Take from the Latest Loss

1. Out of all the teams in our game tonight, we were second best - Philadelphia was the only team better than us in this game.
2. We only lost by one goal!
3. Dion and "Tie Game" didn't make a single mistake. They're great when they don't play!
4. Phil's plus-minus in this game was zero - GREAT by his standards:thumb:
5. We didn't give up a single highlight reel "Bernier" goal.
6. We're currently sitting in 24th place in the entire NHL and only 2 teams are in position to overtake us soon. Even when that happens, we'll STILL have more points than 4 teams!
7. Phil had only 1 giveaway this game, and his zero goals, zero assists, and zero points are all very symmetrical.
8. We're not even at a half century of futility (yet). So far it's ONLY 48 years of complete and utter failure.
9. In our 11 games since Randy was fired we ALREADY have one win!
10. We've virtually guaranteed we'll be the first team on the golf course - as usual! ("Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis.")

They have also achieved a new record in last night's loss.

This dysfunctional team has had the worst record in franchise history for the month of January.:thumb:

My bet is they will do it again in February, intentionally.
