A quote from Peter Horachek in reference to his Toronto Maple Leafs: "They're embracing what I'm saying."

Well, congratulations Pete! That must be how they got that ONE WIN in the ELEVEN GAMES you've been coaching them!

Double Digits

The Leafs, who have been fruitlessly seeking a savior for the last half of their existence, took one more step to finding one.

The bad news is that they are still out of the top five for the draft lottery. However, there's lots of good news - at least 3 reasons to be optimistic:

1) They only need to descend one more place in the standings! The next team they are chasing has played 3 fewer games and is only 3 points below.
2) The standings page of NHL's website displays the results of the last ten games (Guess how many wins TO had in that period.). With their traditional collapse in the last half of the third period (thus avoiding blemishing their double digit losing streak with a second loser point) and Buffalo's ending their losing streak, the Leafs have recaptured the title of the worst recent team!
3) Captain Pylon was seen lacing his cheese-cutters this past weekend and may soon be back to lead his team.

I doubted it at the time, but the Leaf fans's vision of parades when Burke took over was certainly prescient. Just like a mayor of Montreal said about his team - along the usual route. In TO's case, the route was from the rink to the golf course without even having to wait for the playoffs to begin.

Phil Kessel, Superstar

In Tuesday's latest Leaf loss (4-3 to Nashville), our hero had zero goals, zero assists, zero points. He registered a single lonely shot. He was minus one. He had one giveaway.

"Toronto's best player" (??????????????) now has 45 points in 52 games and is minus 15 on the season, which is currently 787th in the league in that department. His shooting percentage - and remember, folks, this is a one-dimensional player who is paid $8 million a year to do nothing but score, and who will continue to be paid that amount by the Leafs for many years to come, due to his long-term contract - is 11.6%, which is currently 173rd in the league.

Career stats: 638 games played, 242 goals, 262 assists, 504 points, MINUS 56 (and counting!). Despite what some Leaf fans have recently written, these are NOT Hall of Fame numbers.

To show that we are merciful, we won't even mention the Tyler Seguin comparison numbers!

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."

Is Randy laughing as hard as I am? Since the Leafs fired him, they are 1-10-1. Is that good?

Comparison : Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

At this point in the season, let's see how the Wings (or, as some Toronto fans like to call them, the "dead things") and Leafs stack up.

Detroit: 50 games played, 67 points. Toronto: 52 games played, 48 points. So, in 2 fewer games Detroit has 19 more points.

Detroit: 149 goals for. Toronto: 147 goals for. So, in 2 fewer games Detroit has scored 2 more goals.

Detroit: 129 goals against. Toronto: 160 goals against. So, Detroit has let in 31 fewer goals than Toronto. Granted, Detroit has played 2 fewer games...but I'll go out on a limb and predict that the Wings won't allow 31 goals in their next 2!

Detroit: goal differential of plus 20. Toronto: goal differential of minus 13. So, Detroit is 33 better.

Detroit: 3rd of 8 in Atlantic Division, 3rd of 16 in Eastern Conference, 6th in League. Toronto: 7th of 8 in Atlantic, 13th of 16 in East, 25th in League.

"dead things" - ?

Updated Info After Latest Leaf Loss (4-1 to the Devils)

Kessel was minus one, had one paltry shot, and 2 giveaways. $8 million gets the Leafs twice as many giveaways as shots from this "offensive superstar".

The top line (ha ha ha) is now a combined MINUS 47 after 53 games (Kessel minus 16, JVR minus 18, Kessel's roommate minus 13). Clarkson is minus 11. Maybe Dion is the "captain" because HE is "only" minus 4.

Speaking of Dion, he just missed his fifth consecutive game because he hurt his hand (aww, poor guy) in his "fight" against his hand-picked NON-FIGHTER of an opponent Milan Michalik. Maybe we now know why Dion avoids fights against just about ANYBODY!

Carlyle must be laughing even harder at this sad sack "team" than the rest of the world: these gutless nonentities are now an INCREDIBLE 1-11-1 since Randy was shown the door. 3 points of a possible 26! They've scored 1 or fewer goals (shut out 4 times) in 9 of their last 11. They have ZERO wins in their last 11, and 10 of their 11 losses were in regulation time (0-10-1).

This "team" has been a laughingstock and an embarrassment through 48 years of complete and utter failure...but this inept 2014-2015 bunch is very likely the absolute worst of all the pathetic Leaf teams!

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."

Some comments from NHL.com after the latest Leaf loss:

Their goalie can't stop a beach ball and they can't score.

The Toronto Maple Leafs should move...back into Maple Leaf Gardens - at least they could make themselves useful and stock shelves for Loblaws.

The Leafs should trade for (Scott) Gomez. They won't get any better with what they have.

Detroit: 69 points in 51 games. Toronto: 48 points in 53 games.

Detroit: plus 23 goal differential. Toronto: minus 16 goal differential.

Question: Which of the two are the REAL "dead things"?

Leafs in Tough for Record

On their latest losing streak, the Leafs have lost to Arizona, Carolina, Ottawa, New Jersey (twice) and Philadelphia. They will have to get by Edmonton tonight to break their own record (11) for most losses in a row.

If they can manage that, they have an excellent chance of shattering their longest winless streak of all time with games afterwards against competent teams for almost a month.

The good news is that Captain Pylon will soon be back to maximize the team's chance of shanghaiing a savior: Eichel or McDavid.

BOYZZZ!!!

I think we know this guy.

"Gave away Tuukka Rask, made the wrong call".

"Can't forget Game 7 that you blew".

"That 4-1 lead should have got us through"

"Carlyle we've had Phaneuf of you"

Wow man, that is an amazing performance, REALLY, for a deserving team and fans. So heart felt, but then the subject inspires so much agony. So many great alternative videos. The song could be a #1 losing love type of hit.

No way our buddy will give up on them though. Hell, maybe Leafs fans love it this way.

Cheers,

Merlot

The Leafs should do everything they can to obtain Evander Kane!

By all accounts, he would be the PERFECT Leaf: overpaid, underachieving, spoiled, undisciplined, selfish, not a team player, uncoachable.....

Remind you of anyone, Phil? Phil? Got a mirror?

Well Sol, the Leafs might have beaten your Oilers, BUT....

Edmonton outshot Toronto 32 to 28

Edmonton won 39 faceoffs to Toronto's 26

Edmonton had 4 fewer giveaways (8 for the Oilers, 12 for the Leafs)

But more importantly:

Edmonton has won FIVE Cups since the 80s while Toronto has won ZERO since 1967

Edmonton lost in the finals not that long ago while Toronto hasn't even made it to the finals since 1967. In fact, it takes 4 winning rounds to get the Cup and Toronto has NEVER won more than 2 rounds!

Edmonton - although it has struggled the last few years - has a future. Toronto does not.

All told, Sol, be positive and hold your head high: You're a HELL of a lot better off being an Oilers fan than those poor perpetually disappointed people who root for the Leafs - that is, if anyone on the planet still does root for the Leafs.

And the brun lost all they're games against the Glorious this season ! Weise what a revelation! Is it the the scorer who can bring us far far in the playoffs? I would love to see Jagr with habs , he still can score the big goals .
Tukka Rask was a first pick from the Maple Leaf sooo ..... So many bad decisions have been made in this organization!

Latest Power Rankings have Detroit at # 1, Toronto at #26.

I think Toronto is overrated - 28 would be more accurate.

Phil Kessel should be benched after Leafs lost to Rangers

http://www.torontosun.com/2015/02/10/live-coverage-leafs-vs-rangers

And it’s OK to ponder whether that would be at the expense of the Leafs’ $10-million US man, Phil Kessel.

Kessel mostly was nowhere to be seen on Tuesday night at the Air Canada Centre against the New York Rangers, and by the time was in its critical stages, he had been dropped to the fourth line.

Chief among those who did not put up much of an effort was Kessel, who played 12 minutes 57 seconds but still was minus-4.

"Core" Leafs in Latest Loss

The "big" (ha ha ha ha ha) line:

Kessel MINUS 4
JVR MINUS3
Kessel's roommate MINUS 3

Kessel's stats: zero goals, zero assists, zero points, zero hits, zero takeaways, zero faceoffs, one giveaway, minus 4 : quite the game for the "merging superstar" and "future Hall-of-Famer"

"Captain" Phaneuf - missed seventh game in a row following his "fight" with a hand-picked NON-fighting opponent

David Clarkson: benched as a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game

(Season plus minus for the "big" line so far: a cumulative MINUS 54)

What a fabulous core group! As the Leaf fans say, "Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."
