Great quote from D.J.Smith: "The Toronto Maple Leafs is (sic) a storied franchise, but there is nothing there at the moment."

As for the "storied franchise" part, Smith is obviously talking about their FIRST 50 years, not the 48 YEARS of absolute failure and humiliation that have followed.

I love the Leafs,

....gets rid of payroll that can be used to take on a bad contract that WILL include good young prospects and draft picks as well for taking on that or those bad contracts,...

Being happy about taking on "bad contracts" explains so much about the Maple Leafs and their fans. DUH! Why haven't other teams thought of that? They're too busy going to the PLAYOFFS!!! Maybe the Maple Leafs can publish their recipe for LOSING for any team DUMB ENOUGH to follow it!

My pleasure, just when i thought he would not respond (and make himself look even worse) he does lol...what was i thinking? Doc, with your blessing, I would like to donate the $50 to the city of Deadtroit because they need it more than you do. If that is not ok, I will have a crisp 50 dollar bill waiting for you at VIP-3 because I always pay my bets, just as Joe.t taught me to. Thanks to both of you, you are good guys and know hot women when you see them and they seem to love you guys as well. I can still picture the ladies surrounding you both at the last party....:thumb:

Thanks for the great grade on my report card in the other thread MISTER Holliday! It comes natural for me, hockey and parties :D

I would also like to thank cairo for my grade in his report card as well, i wouldn't have had it any other way, ;)......:D

GO LEAFS GO!
I win again!

Iggy, you now owe me $50. Payable at the next Iggy Party. :D

GO LEAFS GO!

You're welcome. I should actually get double the amount we wagered since i had predicted our good friend would come back with a report card of his own. But a deal's a deal, so fifty it is!

Regarding the grade i gave you, i actually felt like giving you a slightly higher grade, but stuck with the one i gave you since i didn't want to cause any jealousy among the members.

As for the grade our good friend gave you, it only goes to show how much you bother him. Didn't i also predict he'd give you a failing mark? ;)

As for our good ol' Maple Leafs, i suspect that they're keeping expectations low and may make the playoffs. This will be a hard-working group who will rarely take a night off. I still expect them to make a few moves. Cody Franson for one still wants to play for the Leafs. But it may not happen this season. How long does Stephane Robidas have left on his current deal?

I also love those short deals they've given the free agents. It's obvious why: they will be dealt prior to the deadline for more picks. Just like what happened with Daniel Winnik. And guess what? They might just come back (like Winnik) next season and sign for one or two more seasons with the greatest hockey organization on the planet! :D

Go Leafs Go!!! :thumb:

As usual, Excellent post MISTER Holliday! It is refreshing to have someone of your hockey wisdom around here to weed out the BS. Job well done my friend and first drink is on me at VIP-3.

On the Leafs front, it would not surprise me if they sneak into the playoffs but i dont expect it. This rebuild has been called for, for years so as fans i think we should expect a couple more lean years as the great Mike Babcock and the great B. Shanahan have said all along. If they do sneak in then great! If not then the draft in 2016 is another deep one so that's good for the rebuild as well.

Go LEAFS Go!

Prediction: Price (unfortunately, for him because he is the only montreal canadian that i like) will miss a good chunk of games due to injury, if this happens, the scabs will also miss the playoffs because lets be honest here folks, the canadians are not a good team without Price. And as for the rumor mill, Joe.t, love ya bro but no way is Malkin getting traded to Les Scabitant's.

Montreal would have to clear out a good chunk of cap space in order to make this happen, plus give the Pens their best prospects. To clear cap space, they'd have to ship out the likes of Plekanec and Markov (at the very least). In other words, they'd have to give them away or add them as throw-ins in the Malkin deal. The habs would at the very least have to trade the likes of Galchenyuk and Beaulieu to the Pens. They'd probably have to add goalie Zach Fucale and a first-round draft pick or two.

Franchise players like Malkin are rare and they command a big price.

Kind of like what the leafs got in return for their franchise player Phil 'the thril 'Kessel. Not very much, I would say.

Oh by the way, thanks for the F in your report. Growing up must be difficult.

Iggy, you owe me another $50!!!! I'm up $100!! If it keeps up, maybe you'll owe me a trio by the time of your next Iggy Party!!! :D

p.s. The Kessel trade seems to bother the haters more than Leafs fans. They keep talking about it. My take on this is that it irritates the hell out of them that the Leafs may just have won that trade!

G1GBallday: Useless in the hockey thread. Similar to others like him, his sole purpose seems to instigate, disturb and be sarcastic. Not as negative as Joel Cairo, but close. He's obviously a habs fan. If he'd stop posting in the hockey thread, likely no one would notice. Grade: F

Knowing you reside in the Bizarro World of hockey and are grading according to the "code", I have to admit I'm touched by your evaluation.

For those unfamiliar with the code:

In the Bizarro World of hockey these are facts:

- A 1 year playoff streak is > a 24 year streak.
- 11 championships = 13 championships.
- 11 championships > 24 championships.
- 48 winless years < 22 winless years.
- Being a disgrace to the sport for half a century (and in 2 years half your existence) makes you a "storied franchise"
- 48 years of failure generates too much pressure on local talent because it's impossible to live up to.

bizarrocode.jpg

As a result, I can only conclude that your F is really an A in the normal world so once again Doc I appreciate the compliment.

PS. I strongly disagree with the C- grade you gave Mister Joel Cairo. By Bizarro standards he's a solid F- in my books.
PPS. I do however wholeheartedly agree with the A+ for yourself and your parakeet. :D

Too many notes?

Speaking of trades and signings.....did i miss something? Did Marc Bergevin get fired lately?? I mean, did he take an extended vacation or something?

Should he follow the Leafs's spreadsheet?
Give up draft picks for a "star".
Buy out "star" or trade "star" for "prospects" who can hardly keep a NHL job.
End result: Pay part of salary for someone not on your team any more, denude your team of talent and lose draft picks thus guaranteeing low finish to get more draft picks.
Repeat every few years and call it a "rebuild".

By definition: Leaf supporter = masochist. As I am in a mean mood today and the worst thing to do to a masochist is to NOT hit him, I won't respond to Emperor Holliday's grading, except to say that it brought back a pleasant memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_UsmvtyxEI

The way i see it, this is a derogatory remark & very worthy of a suspension.

Yet you went at everyone in that grading post except the usual kiss. Too bad it was taken down.

And now running for help again. Tsk tsk....mirror mirror.

JC is right about you in every way.

Remind me again, how did the Leafs do this season? Yeah, that's what I thought ...

Funniest thing about the Leafs, every year they fail one way or another. They can't make the playoffs, and when they try to lose (cheat) for a better draft pick...they fail. L-O-S-E-R-S.
