As expected, and quite justifiably, many people on NHL.com are carving up the Leafs with comments on their loss to Ottawa.

Here is the BEST so far:

In regards to Kessel's salary: "They pay him by the pound...not the talent."

Thank you Mr. Burke:thumb: Thank you Mr. Nonis:thumb:

Considering the Leafs were well rested and Ottawa played the night before in NYC, Toronto still manages to tease their idiot fans with a couple of third period goals only to end with the same predictable result , another loss ...

Phil Kessel would make a great refrigerator-freezer unit. He's keeping cold, and is a -14!

Gee, THE TEAM THAT BURKE AND NONIS BUILT is quite the squad, isn't it?

I can see why certain Leaf fans have been praising Burke and Nonis (not to mention Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson, and many other Leafs) so consistently over the past several years (and often on this very board).

Yep, it's not often that a professional (???????) sports team can provide such great laughter game after game, season after season, decade after decade !

In the post-Randy era the Leafs are now 1 - 7 - 0, with a miserable 2 points out of a possible 16. They've lost 6 in a row (and still counting). This was the ONLY game of those 6 where they scored more than once...but they still lost, as expected by just about everyone (one notable exception being a poster in the Leaf thread, who inaccurately predicted a Toronto victory).

Toronto is now 7th out of 8 in the Atlantic Division, 11th out of 16 in the Eastern Conference, 22nd out of 30 in the League.

But hey Leaf fans, look on the bright side: 22nd overall is one spot HIGHER than you finished last season. Keep up the good work!

This organization is a mess. They fire the coach, only to find 8 games in, they manage 2 of a possible 16 points.

One would ask, What is being done ? Nothing ! Why ?

Well, the reason why is that no one wants their highly paid 'superstars'.

The few who love this team, boosted, made fun of other teams, such as, the Red Wings and the Canadiens, deserve this team

now and a long foreseeable future. Again, this organization is a mess and in big trouble.

One of them bets emphatically, that Mike Babcock will coach the leafs next year for the money. Really.

He also emphatically said the leafs would WIN against a Ottawa team that played the night before and we

know where that prediction went.

Money is a side issue, though important, but what Mike Babcock really wants, is a Stanley Cup, period.

The leafs have been a team that tries to make the playoffs, never mind play for a Stanley Cup, and have been unsuccessfully at that.

Dion Phaneuf picks a fight with Milan Michalek, who is NOT a fighter. What bothers me, and many others, is how he picked this fight.

Phaneuf slew-foots him, goats him while he is down and at no time, lets Michalek go toe to toe and he wants praise for this. Really !!

If I were Mike Babcock, I would want Shanahan's job, Nonis's job and the coaching job for 10 million a year for

10 years, only because it MAY take 10 years to accomplish. Make the playoffs, that is.

In regards to Kessel's salary: "They pay him by the pound...not the talent."

While January has been a fantastic month, the only way it could end better is if tubby #81 would score three or four at the all star game. That would be the icing on the cake.

BTW the captains will be selecting their teams again this year. I wonder who will go last this time. :D

The Leafs have lost 6 straight and 9 of their last 10. It's so embarrassing momentum is building to turn the Maple Leafs home the Rogers Centre into a repository for useless broken things that don't have any purpose or value. One Leafs fan pondered: "So what would be the difference".

Phaneuf = gutless puke

Twice in as many games, Capt. Phagoof fights two non-fighters from other teams - too bad Neil didn't tune him up ...

Neither Michalek nor Staal are regarded as tough guys, so Phaneuf's choice of dance partners seems a bit strange.

Ottawa's Chris Neil, perhaps a more appropriate foe, could only look on from the bench while punches were being thrown.

Kudos to Ballsamic, G1GBallday and GHG for their excellent posts!

And yeah, Dion is a total coward as we all always knew. He backs away from anyone even remotely tough and then tries to prove himself by starting up with pacifists!

BTW he should have been automatically suspended for slew-footing!

It's no wonder that he has zero respect throughout the league, as Nick Kypreos and Doug McLean mentioned yesterday. His own team won't stand up for him and his fellow players regularly identify him as the most overrated player in the league. The fans in 29 other cities have nothing but contempt for him, and the fans of his own team have long been asking for him to be traded. Unfortunately with the albatross of a contract that inept Leaf management gave him, he is UNTRADEABLE. Who wants a gutless pylon on a long-term contract at $7 million per year? No one!

I 100% totally agree!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

It's funny but you remind me of the guy at the office who struts around the office thinking how smart

and witty he is, only to find out that he has been walking around the office all day with

toilet paper stuck on the heel of his shoe.:thumb:

You play the part well.

The All Star Game, as expected, was a meaningless and boring joke.

The only interesting aspect was the performance of our good friend Phil Kessel.

Now Phil, as we all know, is a strictly one-dimensional player. Puts up points but doesn't backcheck, doesn't fight, is not defensively responsible, has been a minus player every year but one in his career, is considered uncoachable, is considered a non-team player, and on and on.

Thus the All Star game should be ideal for a guy like Phil - no one cares who wins, no one cares about defence, it's all about offence and piling up the points.

Yet in a game with 29 (!!!!) goals scored ( a new record), Phil had ZERO goals, ZERO assists, and ZERO points.

Of the 35 skaters in the game, 32 had at least one point, with many having multi-point games. Only 2 other players besides Phil had ZERO points. One of them played 12:40, the other 13:09. Phil? He recorded his ZERO in 17:13.

Phil, as usual, was on the LOSING team.

Phil, as usual, was a MINUS player - MINUS FOUR to be exact.

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis."
