Anyways, i agree that there's too much faking going on which halts the pace of the matches. Maybe they should do like they now do in hockey & penalize a player who's obviously faking an injury. Like giving him a yellow card or something. It wouldn't totally eliminate the problem, but i'm certain it was reduce the amount of such infractions.

You obviously didn't watch the games.

Also sometimes referee thinks they're faking and you come up with a situation like the Croatian that was given a yellow card when he actually was having a heart attack and died.

So much for people who thinks this sport isn't violent enough !
Pfew !

I'll try to be objective as possible.

For the first twenty minutes Paraguay was looking very bad on the field. Italians were playing well but they were unable to pass the Paraguyan defence (which is very good). After the first 20 minutes, Paraguay began to play well and were able to construct some plays that were interesting. Just before the first half a Paraguayn player scored with his head. Then I thought it was over for Italy.

The second half was a little bit more at the dvantage of Italy. They score a goal. I should add that Paraguay missed several goals even if they were playing erraticallly.

I'm glad that the final score is 1/1. They didn't loosed againt Italy. Italy didn't win and they looked quite bad overall.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the incredibly annoying sound of those horns or whatever they are that are driving me nuts when trying to watch the games. It's really pissing me off because the games look amazing in high definition but that constant buzzing coming through my surround sound makes me feel like I'm in the middle of a bee hive or something. I stopped by Future Shop to pick up some Blu-rays on special today and as soon as I walked in I was assaulted by that buzzing sound coming from their demo displays which all had the World Cup playing. Must've been the quickest visit to FS that I've ever made...I grabbed what I was looking for and left.

One day, someone will come up with a solution to 'sell' Soccer to Americans just like US Football.

That's an easy one. Have gorgeous topless or naked women playing that sport. That's the only way I'd watch Soccer. Geez. did I even spell that right? Is that one "c" or two? :D

So far Argentina..yeah...Germany ..yeah....Korea...yeah...my comment on the vuvuzela horn ..lol..well it`s part of the Africa..suck it up...i`m luving the super action soccer brings, i still don`t get when people compare other sports to soccer and which one has more action ,they all have various qualities of action to me,i find baseball very boring too and i can`t be bother with american football, i believe that game is the one that should be called soccer because every one runs around socking every one and no one is allowed to put their foot on the ball exept for one boring guy..what`s up with that...why call it football..taking a great game called of Rugby and puting equipment on players and calling it buy a name of american football which dose not match it tactics ....now that`s a sissy sports.

The damn thing sounds like 60 thousand people all playing the Kazoo at the same time, I don't care if it's African or not. How would you like it if the World Cup was held here in Quebec and you had 60 thousand people in the stands playing the spoons non-stop? Maybe India and 60 thousand sitars? Or the Ozarks and 60 thousand banjos?

I think the next game I watch will be the final with the volume turned off.

Thanks, EB. Nice to know I'm not alone!

Good thing their tradition isn't shooting guns into the air or something.

Hello all,

I started watching the games and quickly realized it wasn't the some glitch with the continuous sound of a broken toilet flushing...it was on purpose.

Bad enough to warrant a petition?

I'd hate to be on the field with all of that directed right at me.

Damn,

I also hate the noise produced by vuvuzelas. Isn't disturbing? What a nightmare...

I said to myself that it could have been worse. Imagine if Australia hosted the WC. Would we have an ongoing concert of didgeridoo? In Switzerland, alpenhorn noise all the time? Steel drums in Trinidad and Tobago? Bagpipes in Scotland?

Prepare your ears for the next WC in Brazil. Agogo, cuica, berimbau and cavaquinho? Gosh, I hope not!!!!!!

Yeah the vuvuzela is annoying but I can tolerate it for a month while watching some beautiful world class soccer.

Being on the field and listening to that live? Maybe not so much.

Brazil v. North Korea

Today's feature match is Brazil against the Evil Empire, North Korea. Apparently the North Koreans have already created some controversy by broadcasting a bootleg version of another game, not permitted under the agreements and contracts on broadcast rights. I think it is safe to say most of the World will be rooting for Brazil in this one.

End of the first half. Well, I believe that Portugal is definitely less flamboyant this year than the other editions. Thumbs up for Ivory Coast because they're more than passive spectators on the field. In fact, they even played better than Portugal even if their best player, Drogba, is injuried.

As usual Cristiano Ronald was imbued with himself. Even if actually he's one of the best player of the world I don't like his attitude.

I hope that Ivory Coast will win that game.

3 men on Ronaldo okay but trying to tackle his ankles and injure him not great soccer coming from Ivory coast,it`s the only way many club are using their tactics to stop him..all in all square game.

This article heavily critizes Ronaldo for flopping, and it seems like you fell for it harder than the referees did:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...hrmann/06/15/3thoughts.ic.portugal/index.html

It is this artificial drama that detracts from the games and leads to the criticism of the sport we have seen in this thread.

I agree with you EB some players are acting too much pretending they were victims of unfair play. We should deserve the palm to C. Ronaldo when it comes to faking. Unfortunately because he is one of the top stars of this WC he often receives a special treatment. We saw it also yesterday with the Italian team: so many players were faking injuries or simulating a fall allegedly caused by an opponent.

I still don't understand why they didn't gave to Ronaldo a red card (because he previously had a yellow one) when he kept on playing and he even shot on goal despite the fact that the ref had whistle an offside play by Portugal. Normal players received a yellow card for that but not C. Ronaldo. Why?
