Finally after 55 minutes a goal for Brazil by Maicon. The best goal of the WC so far. Respect also for North Korea. They play a defensive soccer style but they<re good at it.

That's an easy one. Have gorgeous topless or naked women playing that sport. That's the only way I'd watch Soccer. Geez. did I even spell that right? Is that one "c" or two? :D

Here's how Americans are "buying it" !

More than 15Millions plays in the US.
Around 4Millions among adults.
80% Increase in High School since the 90's
200% increase in female players among NCAA college in the US since the 90's
over 2500 professional players

"People in the US bought more tickets for this World Cup than any other visiting country... notes a proud Sunil Gulati, president of the US Soccer Federation."

About 45m Hispanics now live in the US, and mostly are soccer-mad Mexicans.
The second group most watching the world cup is the educated elite.

The major league's average attendance last season exceeded that of the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League...

Just before the US team flew to South Africa, they were received at the White House by Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Normally, the only time you see two presidents together is for a humanitarian disaster.

See ? There's big bucks to make in Football and the US won't stay put.

BTW Roadtrip...You don't watch it but you're reading this thread. ???
Must be one "c" !

The background noises (flutes of some type) during the matches are terribly annoying!

Believe me after 22 years of living with the same woman I've heard more disturbing sound that vuvuzelas... :;

In my case the most disturbing crowd in a sporting event was definitely the one attending the National de Laval's games (LHJMQ) (when Michael Bossy was there in the 70's [72 to 77])

Good game this morning between Spain and Switzerland. The Swiss are playing very well and they' ll probably win this game. Actually they lead 1-0.

Switzerland is just about to cause the biggest upset of the tournament. They're ahead of Spain 1-0 with just a few minutes left to play. It would be Switzerland's first victory ever against Spain.

Hello Doc and I agree .
The Vuvuzela should be banned from the Stadiums it's horrible .

The tv networks should block out the stadium noises during the broadcasts. I've now reverted to turning down my volume when i'm watching the world cup. Others have told me the same thing.

Which team are you pulling for, Nadya? The Netherlands?

What a shocker!!!!!! Switzerland upsets Spain 1-0 !!!!!!!!

This likely will only be the first of many upsets to come (although tying with the US on a cheap goal must be embarrassing to the English).

Well this game sucks lol
Reminder me when the Habs won against The Caps.... Habs were playing with 5 goalies and one counter-attacker...
The swiss was playing with 10 goalies and one lucky attacker... Playing this kind of team is always so boring... but for sure the spanish team failed to score which is not normal considering the talent difference between the 2 teams... but the swiss team does not deserve to win !
Basically soccer and hockey are supposed to be shows for the public... teams are supposed to provide a show, and not refusing to play, playing anti-soccer or anti-hockey just because it works sometimes... When one faces a team refusing to play I would be interested in seeing what happens if he does not play also... both teams would just stay in its side watching each other !!! lol and the public ?? lol

My opinion after round one.
first of all, game 1 doesn't tell too much about who's gonna win the WC, most teams start good then finish bad and vice versa. IMWO, the team who will win is the one who will progress in performance game after game and for sure with a little bit of luck and that is the advantage of the big and most famous teams.
Second, i agree that Germany played very well so far but it was easy game for them, they will be tested when they play against big teams. Argentina depends on Messi which it won't help them all the time since it's a 11 players game. Spain lost today, but they played well, the spirit of winning is still with them, so it is not over yet.
Overall, it is hard to predict now, the competition is very high.

nice to see your passion, i just dont think this sport will ever be big in the USA, well, it wont, not as long as MLB, NFL, GOLF, and the NBA are alive, and in Canada it will never compete with the NHL. but it is such a huge sport everywhere else.

Messi tommorrow morning yesssssssssssss
