Besides Verlander the Tigers have four other starters - listed previously who have shown that they can pitch 175 to 200 major league innings. A total of five starters who have a history of pitching 175-200 major league inning is hard to find these days. So the Tigers do have a good group of starters that is proven. Doubt that you will find a starting staff with such depth elsewhere. Certainly not the Yankees.
Unfortunately, none of those 4 starters can pitch good innings.:D

And, by the way, the Yankees starting rotation is probably better than Detroit's. I'd rather Wang, Pettitte, and Hughes than anybody Detroit has, other than Verlander. Kennedy is probably as good as Robertson or Willis. Mussina, well....

The three best rotations in the AL East are Boston or Toronto, Tampa Bay, New York, Baltimore, in that order.

Tigers do not have to win the AL East.

Hughes and Kennedy may give you 125-140 innings each. Hughes broke down last year. Kennedy has pitched all of 19 major league innings - let him go thru the league once or twice before reaching such a conclusion.

Agreed. That's why I rate Tampa Bay's rotation above that of the Yankees. Garza, Kazmir, and Shields give them an enviable young top 3.

Going off topic again Rumples. Focus on the Tigers and the AL Central.

The Indians have a better staff than the Tigers but I am not sold on their hitting or leadership.

So many questions

Don't most teams use whom they judge to be their second best starter for their second game? Is Mussina really the Cranks' second best starter? Or is the coaching staff which made that assessment intellectually challenged? Has Mussina's sholder been injured during the off-season taking diving lessons from Dirty Derek? Will Joe T. make the money to pay me by washing windshields or Subterranean Jeter's uniform?

In any case, I want to be the first to congratulate Joe T. as Mussina did make it though more than 5 full innings and the Yankees are only one game behind Boston after the middle of the first week.

Will the Cranks get an award for employing the elderly? The venerable Mussina was replaced by the almost as "experienced" Hawkins.

Will I have to find a way to control my guilt or my laughter to enjoy a couple of hours with Joe T.'s favorite SP on his dime?

EE,

I totally respect your way above average intelligence, but in this argument with Rumples you're completely out of your league and just looking to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. I call them as I see them.

The corpse of Mike Mussina started game 2 for the stumbling, barely .500 Yankees for the same reason that Jon Lester started game 2 for the World Champion® Boston Red Sox, injury. Josh Beckett and Andy Pettitte are both on the DL.

Yep, actually the Red Sox are off to a terrible start and if it wasn't for the base running error by Emil Brown in the bottom of the tenth Papelbon would have a blown save already on his record, the Sox could easily be 0-2, definitely not looking good early for the Red Sox especially Lester.
Hello Josey,

SO...how do you feel about being 1-1? As YOU said: it's a "terrible start". According to Chercherfemmes' perspective the Yankers are on course for a .500 season. Hmmm, and your MVP prediction, Robinson Cano, is hitting a grand .143. He has just one hit a nothing else so far. Yeah I know it's just two games. Well, YOU thought that many games was valid for a full season prediction. Still 99 wins from your prediction of 100 for the Tankers...lol.

Hey, Lester had an excellent game last night, and "Kevin Youkilis had a double and a run-scoring single while setting the major league record for consecutive errorless games by a first baseman." Not a bad night at all.

Cheerio pal,

Korbel

Update for today's Yanker game:

Cano 0-4...now hitting a lusty .091...my goodness. MVP all the way...bwhahahahahahahahahahaa!

Cano on Target for MVP???

Hey Josey,

Where the heck are you these days? Can you find a rock big enough to hide under. Your MVP pick for 2008, Robinson Cano, went 0-4 AGAIN! He is now hitting at a fabulous 1-15 on the season; and an unreal .067. My lord Babe Ruth must be in fear of all his records falling...bwahahahahahaha.

Peeeeeeeuuuuuuuuu,

Who will replace Ian Kennedy in the Yankee rotation once they realize that beating Baltimore in September does not make one a major league pitcher?

I laughed the day that the Yankees signed LaTroy Hawkins to a fat contract, and I'm laughing again this morning.

Shaun Marcum was brilliant last night. An absolutely unhittable change-up and a decent fastball with good movement. The Jays have a starting rotation to envy. If these guys can stay healthy, they can play with anyone. The lineup's a bit thin, but the pitching isn't. That said, I'm sure Eastender will be happy to hell me I'm wrong, citing some truly irrelevant "fact," so maybe, then again, Toronto's pitching sucks.

Hello Rumples,

No doubt.

Hey, have you seen Josey? WHERE'S JOE.T????? Could it be the stats for Cano are a bit too embarrassing? Cano: 15AB, 1 stinking HIT, 2SO, .067AVG...and ZEROS everywhere else. What a great MVP...

Hello Doc,

That's Okay. But one correction. You forgot to put WORLD SERIES CHAMPION in front of Red Sox. But I forgive you. You wouldn't remember that tittle since you haven't been able to use it in Toronto for such a looooooong time. :D Still, it's nice to be able to cheer on a single regular season win...huh.

What are you talking about? The Jays won the World Series in back-to-back fashion back in 1992 and 1993.

And that's not a long time ago? Enjoy it while it lasts Doc, BJ's are destined for 2nd place behind the World Champion Boston Red Sox!

It's a decade and a half ago but it's a damn sight better than the hopeless Leafs who last won the Stanley Cup over 4 decades ago. Toronto: the city where winning is nothing but a distant memory (except in basketball where there's not even a memory). And before you say it Doc # 1, yeah Montreal never won a World Series but its hockey victories more than made up for it.

There's an APB out for Joe.T. He's been missing since the last time a Yankee pitcher threw a decent game. If anybody sees him, please inform Joe's mother. If he doesn't get his medication soon, he might just start seeing things clearly.

Actually I saw Friday's game Doc, that has to be the loudest crowd that I have ever heard, more than fifty thousand screaming their lungs out, I would have loved to be there, Toronto is desperate for a winner and are tired of waiting for the Leafs and Raptors losing year in and year out.

So much for the Clay(flash in the pan) Bucholz experiment, looks like he was better off without the ten pounds,
the Red Sox look worried.

Actually, Joe, you fucking moron®, Buchholz pitched quite creditably yesterday. Had it not been for Manny turning a routine fly ball into a base hit and Casey's error, he'd have been virtually unscathed.

Now, if you wanna talk about Pettitte and Kennedy...:D

Yankees are off to a fantastic start and with the win tonight they are just 99 wins away from the prediction of that great baseball mind joe.t.
Hello all,

In case you missed it Josey, the Yankers are 1-3. So much for the great Baseball mind of Joe.t. Local dedicated Yankers fans here are desperate to get rid of Mussina and praying for Pettitte to show something decent. If you think World Champion Red Sox fans are "worried", try talking to any Yankers fan with a bit of mature realism.

Bronx cheers,

Korbel
