Hey, Joe T.,

Never mind that Boston and the Wanks performed as expected today. Cheer up, your team is juiced:

Hello anon_vlad,

The trouble with this is evidence and credibility. As the story says, Canseco gave an affidavit that Clemens did not attend the infamous 1998 party. Then photos show Clemens was there, making Canseco either a liar or he managed to avoid seeing the pitcher the whole time by some miracle. So goes his credibility. Now we have a story by Canseco impugning Rodriguez with no evidence to sell a new book. Even if some things Canseco has said in the past have proved true, he still has also seemed to lie to Congress on top of being an enormous money hungry hypocrite. As a witness he has serious credibility issues and until he shows something solid I take what he says as little more than unsubstantiated hearsay. I am not saying he is wrong. I am saying he is a very doubtful character.

Bronx cheers,

Korbel

Umm, there aren't 164 games on the schedule. You doing Joe.T math?

Hello Chercherfemmes,

It takes a Yankers fan to make a definite prediction after TWO games into the season or slightly more than 1% (1.234567901) of the games. Now based on nothing I suppose the Yankers will be perfect since they have not lost...lol.

Funny,

Korbie, I'm quite sure that CF is speaking with tongue stuck firmly in cheek. Had the MIA Mr. T made this statement, I'd not be quite so sure.

Hello Rumples,

Lol...yeah...the MIA Mr.T would stake his reputation, as worthless as it is, on the aforementioned prediction being a devine fact.

Toodles,

Yes, quite true. And I blame my bad math on jet lag, having just gotten home today after 2 weeks of work travel to boring, SP-free (at least for me) American cities. Next week is sunny Costa Rica with no shortage of SPs ;)

Yep, actually the Red Sox are off to a terrible start and if it wasn't for the base running error by Emil Brown in the bottom of the tenth Papelbon would have a blown save already on his record, the Sox could easily be 0-2, definitely not looking good early for the Red Sox especially Lester.

Guess whose bullpen this is? Hint: though it looks like it, it isn't Tampa Bay. Texas? Good guess, but, no, try again. Baltimore? Not even close.

OK, I'll give you a hint. This team spends $210,000,000 per year on it's roster and this is the best bullpen they can come up with. Wow!!

Hello all,

"A terrible start" huh. Looks like the perspective of desperation as someone tries to squeeze every cheap drop of pseudo satisfaction his microscope can find before his $210,000,000 team inevitably chokes...AGAIN. Let's see, that will be 8 seasons in a row at that rate...yup...$1,680,000,000 for NOTHING...lol! Keep squeezing Josey,

Bronx cheers,

From Bill Madden of the NY Daily News:
Toronto Blue Jays 94-68
Boston Red Sox 92-70
New York Yankees 84-78
Tampa Bay Rays 75-87
Baltimore Orioles 59-103

As for the rest of the News crew: 6 pick the Sox, 1 picks the Yanks. The two who don't pick the Sox, pick them to win the wild card. Of the six who don't pick the Yankees, three of them have the Yankees missing the playoffs.

Hello Rumples, Chercherfemmes, CrazyJoe.t,

I am sure you can find someone somewhere that will give you the figures you want saying your team will win. This is cute and fun, but meaningless. Decoding a barking dog for his thoughts on the matter would probably be more accurate than some of these sports prognosticators. However, we can be certain about death, taxes, and CrazyJoe being totally absurd at every chance. Have faith in that.

On another note...

I DECLARE YANKEE HUNTING SEASON OPEN!
Aim to annihilate.

Enjoy,

Korbel

Let's be a good sport with Joe T. and offer congratulations when appropriate. Due to the grace of God, the Yankees remain unbeaten.

Hello Anon_Vlad,

Yes, but they are winless too. Okay, let's use the Chercherfemmes/Joe.t "too early to make any sense" data projection system here based on their season so far. The Yankers will get no hits, no homeruns, no RBIs, no runs at all. They will go a winless/lossless 0-0 .000 and miss the playoffs with a catastrophic team won/loss percentage. That means no World Series Championship this year either. Sorry Yankers and Mr. Steinboner Jr. That's another $210,000,000 blown for nothing again and again and again and again...oh the sorry pathetic monotony of it all.

Too-da-loo,

Korbel

What's interesting about Pecota, which I've never really liked, is that it's projecting the Yankees to allow 21 fewer runs than the Sox. From every other account I've read, the Sox not only have the strongest starting pitching in the AL, but the strongest defense and bullpen. The Yankees, after Chamberlain and Rivera, have NO bullpen. They have a mediocre defense at best. They are relying on old pitching, or rookie pitching. I don't see it.

Rumples just highlited some of the flaws inherent in making projections.

In 2007 the Yankees allowed 777 runs to the Red Sox 657, a difference of 120 runs. Expecting a 141 turnaround in the run differential is out of line.

The Indians and Tigers have quality staffs as well.

Prediction from Joe.t from the city of Ottawa

1-Yankees 100-62
2-Red Sox 89-73
3-Blue Jays 87-75
4-Devil Rays 80-82
5-Orioles 64-98

Yankees are off to a fantastic start and with the win tonight they are just 99 wins away from the prediction of that great baseball mind joe.t.
