Talk about disappointment, what the hell is that sack of shit Ortiz still doing in the lineup, I give him two more weeks before Terry finally benches his sorry ass.
Two more doubles for Senor October today. Thanks for the boost, Joe.

n.b. I could be wrong about this. Please consult Eastender for more accurate information.

Hey Josey,

Time to get a new crystal ball there buddy...little "genius"...lol. They may not have faced a great team today, but both Buchholz (6 scoreless innings) and Ortiz (2-4, 2 doubles, 1 BB) did very well. They and the entire team, even without Ramirez or Casey playing, were magnificent. Thanks to the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox it was a gorgeous Patriots Day holliday in Massachusetts all around.

Cheers pal,

Korbel

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Barely three weeks* into the new season, Hank Steingrabber is already undermining the conduct of his team by the manager and general manager by suggesting that it's now time to insert Joba Chamberlain into the starting rotation. Welcome back, Bronx Zoo.

*Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. Consult Eastender for exact information.

It was about this time last year* that the Onion, the obvious source of the above, published an article citing Manny Ramirez' request of the Red Sox that he be allowed to work from home.

*For the exact date, Eastender certainly has all the facts.

Yankees Bury Bernie Williams Under New Stadium For Good Luck

NEW YORK—Citing a need for physical and spiritual cleansing after a Boston Red Sox fan entombed a David Ortiz jersey in the floor of the new facility, the New York Yankees buried former centerfielder Bernie Williams under 4,650 pounds of concrete Wednesday in the foundation of the new Yankee Stadium for good luck.

Hello Chercherfemmes,

Love it. Nice see you guys can laugh about this year so far.

Going, going...

Manny Ramirez Asks Red Sox If He Can Work From Home
MAY 03, 2007

BOSTON—Claiming that a relaxed atmosphere and a chance to create his own schedule would greatly benefit his productivity, Red Sox left-fielder Manny Ramirez has asked team officials if he can play the remainder of the season from the comfort of his own home. "My client just can't seem to focus in his current place of work," said Ramirez's agent Greg Genske, noting that Fenway Park's loud, boisterous atmosphere and high-stress, pressure-packed environment are "not ideal working conditions for anyone." "Manny seeks a work space where he doesn't have to constantly travel, can wear whatever he wants, and can work at his own pace. I assure you that he will be able to put up the same statistics he normally does while physically on a baseball diamond. Just give him until November or December." The Red Sox have tentatively agreed to allow Ramirez to telecommute, claiming that although their offense may suffer without him at the ballpark, their defense in a vacant left field may substantially improve.
Hello Chercherfemmes,

YUP! Currently the Sox are in first place, and they lead the series between them and the Tankers. Wang, Mussina, Petite have done poorly, and Hughs and Kennedy are so bad that the Tankers may be thinking of having Chamberlain start...a BIG mistake. And A-Rod has a "strain"...lol.

But hey, the Manny story here is hilarious too.

Bonne journee,

Korbie,

Hard to say the Wang and Pettitte have done poorly, quite the reverse actually. Wang's numbers have been adversely affected by one bad start. Mussina and the kids have, of course, sucked.

As for the former Bombers thinking of starting Chamberlain, that's really only Phineas T. Bluster, Jr.

Happy 49th Birthday Terry Francona - Sox Win 7-6

Jacoby Ellsbury has 2 Home Runs and Scores the Winning Run. Jacoby had bunted a Single, then he was driven in by Dustin Pedroia's double in the Bot of the 8th. The Sox Beat the Angels 7-6......oh Papelbon comes in to record his 8th Save!

Yes Rumples,

It was a disaster too.

I saw Youk tie the game up at 5, then I got side tracked. Lately it seems like the end comes out well for the Sox under any circumstances.

Cheers,

Damn that flu bug can be really nasty, I missed a week of work last month because of it.:(

I am sincerely sorry to hear of your illness. Take it easy and try to get your strength back before watching the Twinkies' relievers.

I saw the Twinkies play in Oakland the other night. Other than Joe Nathan, they don't seem to have much bullpen. Joe Mauer, however, is one fabulous player.

Good game yesterday between Yankees and Indians.

Tied 3-3 up until the bottom of the 9th.

Then the Indians got an RBI, winning it at 4-3.

Here's some stats on 2 young center fielders in the major leagues. Which one would you prefer?

Player 1: 24 yrs old, 57 career major league games, excellent defense
Player 2: 23 yrs old, 309 career major league games, very good defense

2008 Stats: (Avg, Hr, RBI, OBP, SLG)
Player 1: .292, 3, 11, .409, .458
Player 2: .295, 5, 11, .360, .480

Player 1 has better plate discipline but as a rookie is a full year older than player 2 who already has 2 seasons in the big leagues under his belt. Power is the last skill to develop in most young players. It's therefore more likely that player 2 will end up with more overall power as a finished package.
Based upon the three weeks worth of numbers you list, one would have to be a fucking moron® to make a judgment. Why was one in the big leagues before the other? Perhaps one went to college and the other didn't. Perhaps one plays for a world championship caliber team and the other plays for an also-ran.

I'll take Ellsbury, thank you. Better defense, better plate discipline, possibly the fastest player in baseball. One has, in 57 games, quite a few as a defensive sub, stolen 17 bases without being caught. The other in 1100 abs has 28 sb.

These two players are not in the same class. One is a decent regular, the other a potential superstar.

Was Roger banging Mindy McCready?

The New York Daily News has come out with an article claiming Roger Clemens (the steroid & HGH user) had a long affair with country singer Mindy McCready (whom i've always suspected is a junkie & an alcoholic). Personally, i've been aware that she has a history of banging professional athletes (former NHL player Drake Berehowski among them). Clemens' people deny the allegations, of course, claiming she's simply a very good friend of his:

Now if you can add the high OBP, high stolen base % and good power together, then you have Ricky Henderson or Tim Raines (both deserving the HoF imho), and they ain't making that model anymore. Without power, Ellsbury can be a star for a few years, but not a superstar...
Tim Raines, who is a no-doubt Hall of Famer in my estimation, averaged 8 HR per year. Ellsbury has 6 in about 1/3 of a season. They are VERY similar players. Ellsbury has shown a bit more power; Raines walked a bit more and stole a bit more. If Ellsbury can do what he's done for 1/3 of a season for about 20 years, he'll be a HOFer as well.
