Ho-hum, another day, another beating for future Hall of Famer Phil Hughes. He does, however, still have his ERA in single digits.

Oh, yeah, 7 shutout innings for Jon Lester, embroiled in a beauty of a pitcher's duel with Doc Halladay.

The New York Daily News has come out with an article claiming Roger Clemens (the steroid & HGH user) had a long affair with country singer Mindy McCready (whom i've always suspected is a junkie & an alcoholic). Personally, i've been aware that she has a history of banging professional athletes (former NHL player Drake Berehowski among them). Clemens' people deny the allegations, of course, claiming she's simply a very good friend of his:

Hello Doc,

Now, I don't know whether this happened or not. But aside from the fact that any guy may be capable of an affair, Clemens has already amply demonstrated the kind of invulnerable attitude that indicates he feels like he can get away with anything.

It has been reported that they met when she was 15 years old and that she brought him home for dinner after meeting him in a club. Her mother seems to believe the whole thing was platonic, but also that her daughter was always quite independent. It is difficult to believe Clemens would risk developing any relationship with a minor or even think of having sex with a 15 year old when he could have access to so many beautiful women of legal age if he so desired. Then again, who knows what Mr. Invulnerable might do?

Sad,

So many questions, so little time. If she was indeed 15, what the hell was she doing out in a club? How old was he at the time, around 40 i suppose? ;)

Roger's always been a bit of a strange bird. Nothing surprises me about this lyin' oddball anymore!

Hello Doc,

Gee, some star had an affair...say it ain't so...lol. And it was Clemens this time; oh yeah, another surprise. The only worthy question is did he have sex with an underage girl when he was 28 years old? Even then, she seems to have carried on quite willingly with him for many years. So now what? What do you do with statutory rape that morphs into a consensual adult affair? I wonder if his wife knew about this, and what she will do now that everyone knows? If no one involved wants to do anything legally, is this story really worth anything except media profits? In any case, it seems the public will enjoy the titillation of it all.

Call me daddy..."baby",

Hello Doc,

TWO great walk off wins for the Sox against your Jays. Matsuzaka was terrific and Varitek just singled home the winning run with two out in the 9th. Wells cut down Lowrie at the plate with one out, but failed to get Ramirez with two out.

Well, that was another great finish...for us. Matsuzaka seems to be very solid this year so far with a 2.52 ERA and .164 Opp Avg.

Cheers,

Looks like one-time top prospect Phil Hughes is more likely the next Rich Harden or Mark Prior than the next Greg Maddux. The latest in the injury prone youngster's ailments are a) strained quad and b) cracked rib. Out until at least the All Star Break.

With all these muscle ailments, one wonders if Hughes was juicing it at age 14.

And Joe.T seems to have vanished once again?

Sox / Yankees rivalry turns to murder

Sox / Yankees spat cited in N.H. killing.

May 5, 2008

NASHUA, N.H.—A woman accused of running down a man in her car after a Red Sox-Yankees argument in a bar never hit her brakes as she accelerated toward the small group he was in, a prosecutor said Monday.
more stories like this

"She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people," prosecutor Susan Morrell said of Ivonne Hernandez, who is charged with reckless second-degree murder in the death early Friday of Matthew Beaudoin, 29.

Authorities won't describe the argument beforehand in Slade's Food & Spirits, but witnesses said it heated up when Hernandez identified herself as a New York Yankees fan. Like the rest of New Hampshire, Nashua, 45 miles northwest of Boston, is Red Sox country.

Bartender Tanya Moran said the argument spilled outside, and at least one person in a group that included Beaudoin began chanting "Yankees suck!" when they saw a Yankees sticker on Hernandez's car.

Hernandez, 43, allegedly gunned her car and struck Beaudoin and his friend Maria Hughes, 21. Hughes had only minor injuries, which Beaudoin's sister Faith said was because her brother shielded his friend.

Hernandez, of Nashua, was arrested at the scene. She acknowledged she had been drinking and refused to take a breath-alcohol test, said Morrell, a senior assistant attorney general. Hernandez said she had been in an argument with the group.

"She indicated to police that she wanted to scare this group of people. She thought they would get out of the way," Morrell said.

Hernandez was ordered held without bail after being arraigned Monday in Nashua District Court. The charges, including aggravated drunken driving, are felonies, so Hernandez could not enter a plea.

Her public defender, James Quay, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Beaudoin died of massive head trauma at a hospital, Morrell said.

Moran told The Telegraph of Nashua during the weekend that Beaudoin came to the bar regularly to socialize, sing karaoke and have fun.

"He came to hang out. He didn't really drink much," she said.

Chris Lovett, a disc jockey at Slade's, told the New Hampshire Union Leader that Beaudoin kept to himself and "wasn't an instigator."

Faith Beaudoin said her brother, who lived in Nashua, was a 1997 graduate of Nashua High School who worked dealing poker at Sharky's in Manchester and Nashua. She said his organs, including his heart, live and kidneys, were donated in hopes of saving other people's lives.

"He was always helping people when he was alive, and he's still saving lives," she said, choking back tears during the weekend.

Say it ain't so, Joe

Hey, Shmo T.,

Congratulations on the Yankees win today and their ascension to mediocrity. [By mediocrity, I am using the dictionary definition i.e. average (as in 18-18), not bad as some seem to mean it.]

You were smart in refusing my suggestion of declaring a winner for our bet as soon as one of our teams was 10 games ahead of the other. If the current trends continue, the Twinkies will be 10 games behind the Boston by the All Star break.

I thought you might enjoy this slightly out of context quote from Cynthia Rodriguez:
"As tough and big as he seems, he is real wimpy.." http://www.mercurynews.com/opinion/ci_9179088

AV,

Could you refrain from calling the Yankees the Twinkies. The Twinkies are actually the name of the Minnesota Twins so whenever you write that in regards to the Yankees it gets me all confused. At the least change the spelling to Twinkiees.

Hello Special K,

The Tankers aren't in last place. They are jockeying for a strategic position from which to make a miraculous, "on fire", "unhitable", "Cy Wang", Joba "phenom" run to an inevitable World Series Championship...bwahahahahaha! So where's Hench when you need him?

Where's Joe.T????????????

Hello Special K,

Now that the Yanker's Wang got whipped like a dog and the Red Sox's Lester pitched the years first NO-HITTER, the latest information I have is that Josey is now looking for a much, much bigger rock to hide under. The latest known choices are Rushmore, Vesuvius, Gibraltar, Sugar Loaf, or Everest. There is some rumor he is learning Portuguese. So bet on Sugar Loaf. I guess Nepalese is just too tough. ;)

boa sorte Josey,

For the record

It seems Mr. T. has turned lurker on us. He was logged in here last night, though he hasn't posted since late in April. It could be that he made some foolish bet on some glass jaw and is hiding from Uncle Vito. Or it could be that Uncle Vito has broken Joe's thumbs and he can't type. Or he could simply be chicken shit.

As for his hiding under a rock, nah. He's with the Yankees, in the basement.

BTW, I'm waiting for EE to show up here to let us know that Lester didn't really throw a no-no last night.

Josey, Josey, where for art thou Josey

Josey, Josey, where for art thou Josey
It is the East, and the Red Sox are the sun.
Arise, fair Sox, and kill the envious Yankees,
Who are already sick and pale with grief in their cellar
That the Sox, their masters, art far more superior than pinstriped losers!
The glow of Sox stars who shame those chumps
As Ortiz doth Cano; His bat in glorious victory
Would through glorious Fenway stream so bright
That Boston fans marvel in their baseball heaven.
